American Idol Winner David Cook Shows Royal Allegiance on Baseball Tonight

David Cook, the 2008 American Idol winner and die-hard Kansas City Royals fan, joined ESPN’s Baseball Tonight team Sunday, Aug., 2, during the 7 p.m. ET show. Cook, who performed the previous night at The MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Conn., stopped by ESPN’s Bristol, Conn., studios en route to his next tour stop in Bethlehem, Pa.

A life-long Royals fan who worked for the organization for five years, Cook provided analysis during the team’s highlight segment and spoke highly of the organization.

“You get a sense for how much they want to win, and they are really trying to turn around the culture there,” Cook said.

Cook’s favorite Royal of all time?

“Probably my No. 1 guy was Frank White. I used to love seeing him at the ballpark…he’s a consummate player. He never seemed to do anything but his best. As a ball player, you obviously want to emulate that.”

Cook also offered up some pitching advice from personal experience — don’t pitch to Albert Pujols.

Cook, a left-handed pitcher in high school, recalled one particular lowlight on the mound — surrendering a bomb to the present-day St. Louis Cardinals star Pujols during an American Legion game.

“The one guy that really got the best of me…it was one pitch,” said Cook. “I got a chance to throw a curveball that hung just kind of middle-in on Mr. Pujols.

“One time and it was embarrassing. It is a permanent bruise on my ego.”

Cook is on tour through the middle of October performing tracks from his first solo album.

..I just came from davidcookofficial, where I saw the post about him appearing on Baseball Tonigh!!! ..man I am SO sorry that I didn't know about it beforehand!!!!!! ..I am so anal about catching EVERYTHING he appears on on TV-- savor it savor it savor it, of course LOL ..and I actually transfer everything from my DVR onto DVD's, so that I'll have it forever! ..it irks the crap out of me whenever I might miss even the tiniest thing he's on grrrrrrr
..makes my MOM mad, too!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!

..HEY.. I know new episodes of Baseball Tonight show all throughout the week, but does anyone know if this particular one might possibly be re-aired at all..?

..OH and while we're on the subject-- are there any other BIG-TIME baseball fans on this site..? ..I am a HUGE fan of the game, and an even HUGER fan of my team (although they SUCK this year, I love them love them no matter what, same kind of thing with poor David and his Royals!!!!!

KANSAS CITY, MO. - Former American Idol winner and Blue Springs' native, David Cook, appeared on ESPN's Baseball Tonight over the weekend sporting his love for the Royals.

Cook said. "I've been in love with the Royals since I was a kid." He said he loved Frank White. "He never seemed to do anything but his best."

Cook made a pitch to get the All-Star Game to Kansas City in 2012. And, he helped the ESPN crew do the Royals' highlights.

Despite the Royals' record this year, Cook stood by his team. He said, "I think the Royals are about to turn a corner." Although, he admitted it was a small corner.

I was just flipping through the stations when I caught David on this. I LOVE baseball so it was great hearing my American Idol talk about it. I grew up a KC Royals fan, my family is from there. The only thing that they could have done is maybe played his music for the highlights and not Daughtry!!! Thought that was a little bad.

David would have looked better in the Arizona Diamondbacks Official Jersey I gave him but I suppose he has to be faithful to his team first!! Good for him.

First I miss the home run derby and now this, ugh.

Just think how horrible it would be if we didn't have YouTube!!

I love baseball also!! My team is the Braves!! I would so just love to go to a baseball game with David! Yes, only in my dreams.....lol
