I have disabled the ability to upload images through the site because I realized when backing up the site that there was over 2gb of attachment/files that I had to download from the site. The site itself is only 20mb in size, so the images that the users upload take up most of the site. I also thought that when someone uploads an image, or starts any post, it'll last for a week or so and then get buried, but the picture is still hosted on this site. So, with that said, I ask that you guys start using free image hosting services such as photobucket and so on...

I'm pretty sure that what Travis is saying is that if you post a picture(s) in your post, to use a link from your own Photobucket, Image Shack, Tinypic or some other outside hosting service rather than posting it as an "attachment" to your post here. Have you ever noticed little thumbnail pictures in a person's post, and then you have to click on it to see it? I believe that means that they uploaded it as an attachment directly to this site, which means this site was hosting/saving it, and over the 6 months d-c.org has been in service, about 2 gigabytes of pictures have accumulated and were being saved, even in posts made months and months ago that no one ever accesses anymore. We are a very image heavy site, which is great!! We love every single picture of DC, and everyone has such colorful and creative banners!!
The attachment option is gone now anyway (I never knew how to use it anyway), so to put a picture in your post or signature use a [img][/img] link from an outside source and everything will be hunky-dory! |

What is the best site to use to upload pics? I currently use flickr.com, and I tried to copy/paste the links from there to here, but they still don't work? ANY TIPS? THanks for any help on this!

Tlatz, I would recommend Tinypic.
If you wish to hotlink images from Flickr, you need to ensure that the image URL ends with a .jpg or .png before you add the [IMG] tag, in order to make the pic show itself. Hope that helps.

ahhh, I knew there would be an answer! I had been wondered why I couldn't any of attached pics in older threads.. it must have been because of this.

Yes pictures uploaded before I took away the attachment thing will still be viewable
