My niece, Kira, is only 8. On Wednesday morning at about 6:30-ish, I believe, she will be going in to have surgery on her back, spinal area, and possibly her gallbladder removed, if I remember correctly. To be honest, I'm scared, mainly because this is a major sugery and I feel so helpless.

I'm always the strong one or whatever, I know that she looks up to me...everyone says so, plus she practically copies everything I do. I don't know what I'm supposed to do, I'll be there at the hospital with her, I already promised her I would, but I don't know what else to do. I can't just sit there and do nothing, but I'm going to have to.

No one knows exactly how much this effects me. I told my cousin how I feel, and she just said it's not as bad as open-heart surgery, her grandfather had that, and I know that, but still, I'm scared to death that something might happen. My mom doesn't really care how I feel, she is only there for my sister and I understand that, but how am I supposed to deal with this? I don't know what to do, I've never been this scared before. How do I deal with this?
