7/27 Rochester Show

Not sure what show they were watching, because everyone--except for the two people sitting in front of us--loved the show.

Review

Back to those two people: they didn't get excited for anybody that came on and kept looking at each other in amazement at the amount of noise certain performers encited. Why come then?

Anyway, almost everyone sounded great. Yes, there is one performer that isn't my favorite, but many people like this person, so no problem here. My husband kept commenting on how much better everyone sounded than they did on the show. You could tell they were much more relaxed and really enjoying themselves. And, they were finally able to pick songs that suited them well--no theme weeks and no judges!

The screams reached notes only dogs could hear when David A. took the stage. (I swear I heard barking from outside the arena!) You could tell his demographic was a little younger than David Cook's! David A. sounded fantastic and it is amazing the amount of poise he has at 17. We all know this kid is going to go far. He almost out-Grobaned Josh Groban's When You Say You Love Me on his final song.

Of course, the best performance belonged to Cookie. Am I biased? Hmmm . . . YES!!! He sounded great. I could hear vocal strain from a lot of the other performers (and the poor lot of them still have 1 1/2 months left on tour) and Cookie didn't sound like the higher range was easy for him last night. I'm sure he'll be happy to have today off. He is such a natural on stage and played to the crowd so well. We could tell the age of the crowd when he was fishing around by the drum set and pulled out his Kansas City Chiefs hat: "Hmmm, what do I have here? *shows crowd* Silence from the audience. Now, I was booing so loudly most people around me turned to look and shoot me dirty looks. Hey, what can I say, I'm from Buffalo! After commenting on the silence, he finally got a few boos, to which he said something like "that's better." I'm sure most of the younger kids in the audience just aren't into football.

Anyway, I'm so glad I got to see Cookie in person--even though I couldn't stay after for any autographs or hugs.

The best t-shirt of the night award: to the guy walking around in the green t-shirt that said, "Single . . . ish"
