Same here!! That little snippet alone... phenomenal! Can't wait to see the rest of the performance, I sure as heck hope they show it. Then again, they thought it was good enough to put it on the commercial, so why wouldn't they!

Also love the fact that they allowed the contestants to play instruments. Anyone know if that is going to be just for the Hollywood round?

Well damn, that's too bad. I know the primary focus is their singing ability, but allowing them to play instruments, if they are able, really would add a cool and interesting element to the show. Jus sayin, ya know?

Did Idol confirm instruments are only for Hollywood? I figured they were allowed all season. That sucks if it's just Hollywood.

We're totally seeing eye to eye on that one Danny. I think it's time for AI to evolve and allow the contestants to really show off the versatility of their abilities, not just as a singer, but an all around performer and for some, that just so happens to include an instrument. And honestly, if you think about it, that's kind of the idea isn't it? For them to show that not only can they sing, but that they can perform as well. Some may say it gives unfair advantage, but you know what, if it's open to everyone, I don't see it as being all that unfair. Besides, does the ability to play an instrument REALLY make you a better singer? No, it doesn't. Whether you're good or bad, you're not going to all of a sudden get better just because you're playing an instrument. That's just my opinion tho.

I agree. I just found this:

http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/ar...nstruments_tour

QUOTE
“We knew Chris Daughtry, Carrie [Underwood] and Bo [Bice] could play the guitar but we really couldn’t show it. If [the contestants] can play an instrument this year we want to be able to see that, and we’ll introduce a couple of days of that during Hollywood week,” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told the New York Post.

That may or may not continue to the semi-final and final rounds of the competition in the spring. “We’ll make a decision when we see how many really talented people we have,” he said.

oh nice! yeah i was going off the top of my head...i guess it WOULD make sense if they could use instruments because it's the same as using background music.

Yeah, but I have a feeling you're right and Idol will just allow it for Hollywood. I can already see Nigel chickening out as he starts talking about how it's a singing competition and the voting rounds should be based on singing only...even though there are people who base their vote on looks, backround stories, pity, etc. At least if someone wants to vote only because someone is a good musician an instrument actually deals with an aspect of music.

I really hope he doesn't wuss out. Cuz yeah it's a singing competition, but I still say allowing them to play their instrument would give a better view of how they are as a performer. Don't they WANT for the contestants to show their full potential as a performer and be themselves? I think if they introduce it in the Hollywood round and then ditch it when we get down to people voting, they're losing out on a lot of potential.

And I agree with you Travis. While I do think it's interesting to see the background stories, it's not why I watch the show and it definitely isn't what I base my vote on. I'm not going to vote for someone that is a horrible singer just because of a background story.

I wish tomorrow was Tuesday sad.gif sad.gif
I haven't felt like this for a contestant since Chris Daughtry was on Idol...and that is saying something since I would swear that I wouldn't like a contestant as much as I did with Chris and now David has stepped in and has become a huge favorite of mine...Chris will still always be my all time favorite Idol, but David will probably come up behind him.
