This is good from KansasCity.com
http://www.kansascity.com/2010/05/27/19748...david-cook.html

ETA: Yes ~ make sure you read under the Picture ~ You know, the one where on his had David has written "Give Back" = Exactly what he was doing ~ giving back. What a great Idol/person. I know I could learn a LOT from David myself

And that's exactly what he was doing in Kansas City this week ... which is why David Cook missed the "American Idol" finals last night.

'Idol' mystery: Where was David Cook?
Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Taylor Hicks and Kris Allen were all there.

But lots of people were disappointed that David Cook wasn't on the stage last night with all the other "American Idol" winners as they gave tribute to Simon Cowell.

So where was he? He was right here in Kansas City participating in a charity golf tournament for the Shadow Buddies Foundation, which provides specially designed dolls to seriously ill children.

David played at Deer Creek Golf Course on Tuesday and appeared at a breakfast Wednesday morning, the foundation folks say.

David posted a video on his website to wish finalists Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze good luck. Click here to see it.

Later, he Tweeted: "Congrats to Lee Dewyze! So sorry I couldn’t be there to see all my fellow idols. I'm there in spirit!"

[BLURB] inTOUCH "Why David Cook skipped the Idol finale" w/"exclusive" statement re Simon Cowell http://bit.ly/ambr25

Why David Cook skipped the Idol finale
Unlike all of the other American Idol winners (Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, and Kris Allen), season 7 champ David Cook was curiously absent from the show's May 26 finale in Los Angeles, which also marked Simon Cowell's last episode. Simon is leaving Idol to launch a U.S. version of The X Factor. But David tells In Touch he had a great reason for missing out on the festivities: The singer was participating in a golf tournament benefiting The Shadow Buddies Foundation, a charity that helps kids with cancer, in Kansas City. (David's older brother, Adam Cook, died of cancer in 2009.) And although David couldn't wish Simon a face-to-face farewell, he appreciates all the constructive - if sometimes caustic - criticism the judge provided on the road to his win. "Simon Cowell was a major help to me throughout the Idol process, and his advice and critiques served me well since," David tells In Touch exclusively. "I want to wish him the best in all future endeavors and look forward to seeing his continued success."
