David Cook - David Cook (2008)
"Mr. Sensitive" Lyrics Day in and day out Watch him scream Watch him shout through the silence Through the silence Give him ears, give him eyes Give some point to the cries and the violence Oh, the violence Hear him scream your name I would like to introduce Mr. Sensitive The one who never let the worst get the best of him, get the best of him Get the best of him This city feels low against the gleam and the glow of his diligence To their elegance Just feel anger, feel pain, feel the sun and the rain Just feel something Oh, feel something Hear him scream your name I would like to introduce Mr. Sensitive The one who never let the worst get the best of him, get the best of him Take all the stones, the bricks, the bones He didn’t stand a chance they said A little boy the world in show, but ignorance is bliss I would like to introduce Mr. Sensitive The one who never let the worst get the best of him, get the best of him Get the best of him |

For the chorus, is it words instead of worst?
**Just curious** |

Mariel, I'm thinking words. But I'm not 100% sure. We'll have to wait for DCO to put up the lyrics. Funny how we ALWAYS beat them to it. Haha.

I really like the sound of this; it begins like a U2 song.
But I don't like the lyrics much. I don't understand who he's singing about or if he's sympathetic or the song is mocking the guy? I'm obviously missing something! Any ideas? |

In my opinion, with this song, David is speaking to the world in general's apathy, concerning all the horrible things that are going on in the world today. Too deep? I don't know. That's my take on it.

I LOVE THIS SONG! The story is drenched in desperation and meaning...the statements it makes about ignorance and indifference really hit home

This is what David said it was about in that EW interview with Chris Willman...
QUOTE Was the title of ''Mr. Sensitive'' meant to be ironic in any way? The song was unintentionally ironic. I had the harmonic riff in my head for five months. In my lyric journal, I had ''Mr. Sincere'' written down, and sincere turned into sensitive. I wanted to write about something outside myself and get a little metaphorical. He lives in a village devoid of feeling. They get so afraid of this child who has feelings that they kill him. It kind of took on this Tim Burton-like, twisted vision of James and the Giant Peach for me. But I know people look at me as that sensitive guy. It's intriguing...I love the lyrics, but then again, I could say that for any song on the record... |
