East-coaster here who earlier on Tuesday actually thought I might fall asleep during voting hours. Not only did that not happen, not even close, but I may have even reached 1,000 votes... I didn't count but it felt like I hit redial about a million times... Even got my mom to vote for nearly two hours, she doesn't watch, she works nights, but she knows how much I have believed in David from day one. I think she stayed so long she was late for work. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that she sneaked away to vote after she got there. That's a mom for you.
Every part of me is aching from the four hour voting marathon. I'm borderline dehydrated and dead on my feet. But I think it was time well spent. The pain, aches, cramps and sore fingers will go away sooner than later. I'll sleep... eventually. I have never been so passionate about wanting someone to win this that I invested the entire allowed time to nonstop dialing. NEVER. I was never going to vote again until a certain guy from Missouri made me rethink that decision. I don't regret it at all. It was a great feeling knowing that the rest of the "family" here was doing the same thing at the same time. I feel incredibly proud to be a fan of this man for so many reasons, and I wouldn't trade a minute of that nonstop redialing for anything. It's weird... it felt like a privilege, not an obligation to vote tonight. Myself I got through it with the help of a two hour DVD (Holly, it is amazing and I adore every minute of it, can't thank you enough) and some random CD's, and it made the four hours seem like, well, about three and a half, lol.
I don't care if the rest of the planet thinks Archie delivered a knockout. I know an awful lot of people that disagree, and I want to prove the rest of the world wrong. They shoulda known better than to piss me off... I don't know about anyone else, but I love a challenge. Call me the underdog and it makes me want to kick your ass even more. Say I'm not gonna win and watch where I end up.
I believe that the final vote on Idol should be a season-long compilation vote and not purely based on that one night. They want to find "the best?" Then they should want to find someone who WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT CAN DELIVER THE GOODS. Not someone who can "rise to the occasion" once in a while. We all know who that is this year... I don't think I need to spell out the specifics. David Archuleta may have "won the night" (not necessarily in my eyes, I"m talking about the opinions of our esteemed judges) but David Cook won the SEASON. Pretty damn tough to dispute that. I've got plenty of evidence to back this up.
Week after week, he let us see exactly who he really is. No pretending, no posturing. Heart on his sleeve, he opened up to millions of strangers who grew to love him for who he is as a man, as well as a musician. We have all taken him into our hearts in one way or another... and he has done the same with us. This is going to be a long standing love affair, don't you think?
His tears at the end... said it all. The culmination of months of pouring his heart and soul into every song. Soaking it all in, one last time, in that one beautiful moment. Feeling the love from so many people. Finally realizing how amazing this journey has been... and that while part of it ends with the conclusion of the competition, its really just the beginning of an even greater one. A lifelong one.
David took the first step on this life-changing journey last August in Omaha by himself.
Now he's got all of us to walk with him for as long as this crazy ride is going to last.
His future is limitless... and I, for one, can't wait to see what's in store.
