It was a Wednesday like any other. Like usual, I was procrastinating over homework, and decided to check out if there was anything worth watching on local TV. My parents were out that night and I was flicking through the stations, when I caught a glimpse of this guy auditioning for Idol. Feeling cynical as I was, I immediately blurted out, "What a nerd...", and proceeded to change the channel, without giving the guy a chance to sing. At least one and a half month later, after all those cramming for the finals, and all those school stuff I've been too busy about, I decided to check out the tube again.

Ah, American Idol... I reminisced on the last time I watched this show... I remembered Bo Bice, the rocker that got so close to getting the title, and when Carrie got it... Well, I stopped watching. I thought to myself, it's just like any old singing contest back here anyway... Balladeers, pop singers... don't they always walk away with the frickin' title? Then, I remembered that fiasco I heard about Sanjaya, and I realized it was not worth it.

I was watching the contestants, it was Beatles night... again? My cousin was talking about this David Archuleta guy who sang Imagine, and my aunt was talking about this David Cook guy who sang Eleanor Rigby...

"How many frickin' Davids are on this show???"

"There were three," according to my cousin,

"Hernandez, Archuleta and Cook."

"Hernandez was eliminated a few weeks ago, though.." added my aunt "So only Cook and Archuleta remain.."

"And how many Cooks were there?"

"Two.."

"So, that Kristy Lee is..."

"Not related to David Cook."

"Oh, I see... well, let's see... He's on now."

Ah, Seacrest, how I missed your annoying but lovable face... It has been that long, eh? Day Tripper? We'll see... I was, utterly shocked. There was in fact, a rocker in this competition... I never realized... I thought Bo was the last...

Needless to say, that performance woke me up.

"What's his name again?"

"David Cook." said my cousin "You like him, ate?" (ate: Ah-Teh, older sister/ female cousin)

"Hell yeah!"

Cue to Simon saying David looked smug.

"Mayabang 'yan ate..." (He looks smug, ate)

"Maybe, but it's just befitting a rocker." I said "You can't be a rocker and not strut your stuff."

"Mama calls him Talong." (Talong=eggplant)

"And why?"

"His hair makes him look like, well, an eggplant."

I snorted... really now...

From then on, I always anticipated Wednesday nights. I want to see more of this "Talong guy"..

Then, Dolly Sparton week...

"Whoa! Are you sure this is the same David we saw last week?"

"Yup." replied my cousin.

"He...he.. he's been abducted and replaced by someone... handsome!"

"No, ate, that's the magic of Idol stylists!"

"Little Sparrow? Never heard of it... Not a country fan..." I said. "Was good, though.."

"He looked strained." said my aunt.

"Yeah... What's up with that?" I said. "Still he's my favorite...and that Syesha girl."

"Hey! Love your own! Malubay!"

"Yeah, I like her too... but..."

"But?"

"I get the gut feeling she'll be voted off..."

"Sa dami ng TNT dun, malamang hinde!" (With the huge number of TNT= Filipino Illegal ailiens, there, I don't think so!)

"Haha..."

Okay, so we all know that Rami was voted off Dolly Sparton week... I was not able to watch Inspiration week, because I was, well, grounded.. From what I've heard, Michael Johns was eliminated, and from what I've heard, it was a shock...

I have not gotten around to watch the show that long, and I certainly have not gotten around to knowing the contestants.

"Ate, Mariah daw this week!"

"Patay..." (Oh crap..)

"Bakit?" (Why?)

"Ano na gagawin ni David Cook?" (What's David Cook gonna do now?)

"Yes! Kawawa si David Cook!" my cousin said. (Yes! David Cook's gonna lose now!)

"Sige, mang-asar ka pa...." (Yeah... go on... poke fun at me!)

"Oh, eto na!" (Here it is, it's on!)

First up was Archuleta... When You Believe...

"Don't mess up this song!" I said before he sang. "Ah, okay... he's good."

I was watching the rest struggle...

"Brooke? What was that? You were off-tempo!"

"Ate, Randy said it was good!"

"The hell with Randy!"

I was upset. Was this all they had? What about Day Tripper guy, Mr. Rocker, David Cook? It's gonna be difficult, I don't remember a Mariah song suiting a guy like Cook.

"He's gonna sing whaat?"

"Always Be My Baby."

"Wasn't that the one where Mariah has all those doo-doo-doo-doo's?"

"Yup."

"Interesting."

"I guess he's gonna turn it in to something befitting his voice." my aunt said.

"Huh?" I was clearly the newbie here.

"Yeah, like Billie Jean."

"He also sang Billie Jean?"

"Yup." They said.

Then, this weird image of David Cook dancing and doing the moonwalk and grabbing his crotch (doesn't Michael Jackson do that?) entered my mind... Luckily I shrugged it off in time for his performance.

And then...

"WHAT THE BLOODY HELL?!"

"Ate, ang galing mo talagang pumili ng Idol!" (Ate, you are really good at picking an Idol!)

"It's.... It's..."

Needless to say, I was in tears... It was like I've watched a rock concert right there and then, and that I was one of those people who cry when they've seen The Beatles in person.

I was blown away... It was like the whole thing was videotaped in my head.. I remembered every single detail... every note, every word...

I'm starting to REALLY like this guy...

First thing I did was do a little research... I went with a friend to an internet cafe, and off I went to YouTube, looking for Mr. Cook's performances...

particularly...

"Billie Jean..."

"There was controversy over that song... People say Cook stole the arrangement.."

"It wasn't exactly stolen... Chris Cornell was credited.." I said. "More like borrowed..."

"Cool... I've never thought that a rock version of Billie Jean ever existed... Cook pulled it of well..."

Phenomenal, I may add...

"Hey, this guy's so good, isn't there a clip of his audition?"

I found the said clip.. And to my surprise...He was the one I called nerd months ago...

I felt ashamed of myself. Have I become so cynical? That I actually judged him before I've gotten around to knowing him? Of course I don't want people to treat me that way, but I felt disgusted with what I did...

I decided to check out all his performances, and they were all good.. some just good, others, amazing... Then I noticed something funny...

"What's up with the orange baller?" I said.

"Trademark?"

"No, I think the scarf was his trademark..."

"If he always wears that, it must mean something!"

"What are you now, a psychologist?"

"Maybe..."

I searched around for David Cook and the Orange Bracelet, and I found a blog about that...

The Oxygen Chronicles....
http://theo2chronicles.blogspot.com/2008/0...by-and-his.html

I was shocked... I never realized that was going on in his mind...

Never have I misjudged a person this badly. Never have I thought that a guy could have all this going on, but continues to grace the stage with awesome performances...

I continued to follow Mr. Cook's journey on Idol, and found myself falling for a guy of his character. I want to make it clear though... A GUY OF HIS CHARACTER... not exactly him.

Haha... denial... needless to say, it gave me hope that there are still guys like him in this world...

Honestly, it made me less critical of the world today.

I am very much humbled when he said:

"To be here now, you can't help but think that there really is something bigger than you going on..."

And this coming Tuesday Night, (Wednesday morning for us), he will again be gracing the stage, as a finalist.

Whether he emerges winner or not on Wednesday Night (Thursday morning for us), he has already won, not only for me, but also for his fans and supporters worldwide.

And then I realized... there's nothing bad about your looks pre-Little Sparrow...

I just had to give you a closer look.

David, you taught me many things, and I'm sure there are a lot more people whose lives have been changed because of you...

I wish you all the best.

If there's something I've noticed, it's that the year 2008 has been very... interesting, to say the least... well, for me, I guess... but now, it's got me thinking... for some weird astrophysical reason, that 2008 is no ordinary year... i just want to know if you guys feel the same...

Some things that happened/is happening/will happen in 2008:

1. David Cook wins American Idol--- David is awesome, no doubt... but I get shivers (the good kind) whenever I hear that there's such a person, an amazing person somewhere out there in the world...
2. The Olympics--- behind all that controversy, i still think that the Olympics is a glorious event
3. Presidential Elections in the US--- ok, so I am no US citizen, but I am very well aware that the outcome of this could affect the world
4.Nothing major, but I graduated from high school this year... 2008... and not to mention I'm now in my first year in college...

I forgot the others, but there are still a lot of them...

Anybody here play Frets on Fire? It's a really cool PC version of Guitar Hero.

If yes, do you guys have fretted songs of David Cook? I heard there's Dream Big and Billie Jean, but I can't find them...

If no, I guess you should check out this game.. seriously...

I dunno where to post this... so here...

We've been calling ourselves Word Nerds for... say... a long time... but where exactly did that term come from (other than David of course)?

I think it's from the game WordZap... anyone knows that game? It's been around for quite a while...

I recently downloaded an old version of that game and played for a few rounds...

Then the program said that my rank was now "Word Nerd"...

Man, I was so thrilled, I took a pic of that screen! tongue.gif

What do you guys think?
