The last several times I logged into David-Cook.org I have had major problems with freezing and afterwards virus warning that would keep attacking after each clean. Therefore, I will not be visiting this site until it has been monitered a little better for virus controls.
I can say it is coming from this site because I have had no other virus, internet, or system problems. Thank you.

Bumping this up. These virus issues are still going strong.

I will copy and paste what I posted in the Fangirl thread, since I know not everyone gets in there...

If you have Firefox and you have AdBlock installed, PLEASE block these two sites:

http://optimizedby.rmxads.com/*

http://media.adrevolver.com/*

Enter the URLs EXACTLY as I typed them, with the stars and everything. It will stop a couple of the ads that are appearing in the Cookbot, one of which I am 99.9% sure contains the trojan that I kept getting alerted about. I noticed that the same ad was ALWAYS in Cookbot when my Avast would go berserk on me.

Please do this. And please make sure you have a firewall installed and turned on!

Steph's computer is infected yet again with this thing, and if it weren't for Avast and my firewall, I am fairly certain I'd have it too.

I had AVG and never got any alerts, so I took it for granted that I hadn't been exposed, but ever since I downloaded Avast, I realize I have been exposed repeatedly and it is probably only my firewall that saved my computer.

There is NO DOUBT in my mind it's coming from this site.

I haven't gotten a trojan alert since I blocked those two ads, and the Cookbot stopped showing them. The virus is coming from the Cookbot. That's why it's not on the main page. Only the threads have the Cookbot in them.

Yes, Travis has been PMed. I have PMed him again myself, and I know for a fact that others have PMed him over the past two months.

Take out the Cookbot, eliminate the problem. It's that simple.

What is the Cookbot and why does it appear on almost all the threads?

I had a virus myself just after I got my computer fixed. But I think it came from here. And just last night I was alerted about 2 attacks that were blocked by my anti virus program while visiting this site.

If anyone is attacked by a virus and doesn't have the money to get their computer fixed you can go to computerhope.com/forum. They are very helpful and thats how I fixed my computer from the virus I got. Although their steps take bit of time it's so worth it in the end!

It's an advertising service. It generates revenue for the site. Each time it's seen by someone, Travis makes money. That's why it is on every single page of every single thread.

For the record, I am not against Travis making money. I just want him to FIX the viruses!

FYI, ever since I used AdBlock to block the Cookbot ads, I have not seen one ad and I have also not had one Trojan alert, and I have been on d-c.org ever since about 8am this morning.

My computer has been hit by trojans and viruses too. I've blocked the sites listed above to see if that reduces the problems. I also installed a different spyware software - was using pctool's spyware doctor but that was not fixing my problems. Now have superantispyware on my system - works much better.

I have a Mac and have not had problems here until last week. I am redirected to a blank pdf and my Safari freezes. I have never had any kind of virus or spyware program because it has never been an issue with a Mac. If anyone can tell me what to do to block the pdf, I would appreciate it. I discovered deleting the cookies from this site and deleting my history seemed to work for today.

This site always has the most up to date info, and I don't won't to miss a thing. I love it here and don't want to be frozen out by whatever it is that is freezing my computer.

Thanks,
Rheena

Is anyone else having trouble viewing the site with Firefox? For the past couple of weeks, every time I try to call the site up in Firefox, the browser crashes. I wanted to use FireFox and install AdBlock because I have been picking up nasty viruses from this site. One of them totally messed up the family PC and took me an entire weekend to eradicate.

Same here, I've always used Firefox with AdBlock Plus and haven't had any problems either.

I used to be able to use Firefox, but now it crashes everytime I try to load the site. I have no problems with other sites. I am using version 3.0.5.

Does anyone have any ideas about what the problem could be?

I don't really know much about computers, but maybe you'll have to remove Firefox and then re-download it.

Have been having trojan virus issues with the site for a couple of weeks. Fortunately, my virus scan alerts me and cleans it up. But, this has happened in the past and it is very frustrating. I really love the site, but am getting annoyed with the virus alerts. Hope it can be resoloved

Yes, they are. I had several caught by the antivirus software on my laptop this weekend.

Also, on the Firefox issue, it is only the home page here at the Dash that crashes it. If I follow a link directly to a thread, I do not crash. I wonder if there is something going on with one of the home page ads that is causing this?

I've seen a high incidence rate of vundo trojans and viruses since I became a regular at this site. A couple were quite nasty and difficult to irradicate. I use Firefox with Adblock Plus enabled. I also have AV protection (McAfee) and spyware protection (superantispyware). I still see items quarantined / removed during my regularly scheduled scans.
