Hi everyone. I’m Sharon from the David Cook Fan Community. I haven’t posted here before, but I do read this board often. First of all, thank you to the people in the multimedia section who have shared so much of their stuff. I have definitely benefited from it.

Now the mystery…..
We’ve discovered that among us there are 2 versions of Porcelain. One is 3:38 long and can be found in both 320 kbps and 160 kbps. It is the version in the link from this site to download Analog Heart, and it is the version that people who own the physical CD have shared with me. However, there is also a 3:53 long version with a longer guitar intro at the beginning which adds that extra 15 seconds. It seems to be a lower quality version. It’s labeled 128 kbps, but when I put it in my player, it says 68 kbps and that seems much more consistent with the sound quality. It’s still listed as track 6 on Analog Heart, and in fact, if I go look on Wikipedia for the album, Porcelain is listed there as 3:53, not 3:38.

Does anyone know the story here? Where did this longer version come from? Was there more than one release of the CD? Is it recorded from some kind of demo? Why is it listed as the correct length in the album information at sites like Wikipedia? We’re all dying of curiosity, so if anyone can help clear this up, we’d really appreciate it.

Thanks guys. wink.gif

Porcelain was released twice due to an error in the spelling of the word on the first cover. Whether or not there were changes to the song itself, I haven't a clue. I have the first album with the incorrect spelling which has the 3:38 min song.

Thank you!

Does anyone have a better quality copy of the longer version they'd be willing to share?

The folks over at DCFC didn't have any hints? Since they're friends of David's, they probably might know better than others . . . .

Not sure there really is much significance here, imo. Time codes can be skewed easily by starting the recording early or turning it off late. I know I have a few MP3s with silence before or after (drives me CRAZY when I'm in the car!). And kbps is definitely something that can vary depending upon compression and quality.

If you can get your hands on the originals (CD) and compare that to whichever MP3s you may have, that would tell you which of your files is the "real" deal. Good luck!

One of the people from there who knew David is the person I mentioned that had the original hard copy. It has the shorter version.

There's definitely a real difference, although a minor one, not just more silence. There is a bit longer guitar part at the beginning before the vocals start. But the quality I've seen available is for sure not as good.

Well, my Analog Heart actual CD has the 3:38 version.

Could the second pressing have had a different time? I think the first pressing was 250 copies, but there are 500 copies in all out there?

Yeah, I'm assuming that's the case. The one with the longer intro must be the second pressing.

Thanks for your help guys. smile.gif

I don't have an account with megaupload or sendspace or anything, but if you pm me an email address, I'll be happy to send it to you. Then maybe you can put it up somewhere to share. Will that work?

BTW, I also heard from someone who has both pressings of the CD that she has the 3:38 version on both, so I guess the mystery continues....

Does anyone have an MP3 of the version of The Truth that's on this page? This version of The Truth is slightly different from what ended up on Analog Heart.
