The season finale of this year’s American Idol is nearing and predictions on who will follow the footsteps of Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks are all pointed to a charming rocker that constantly leaves the world breathless with stellar and unique rock and roll performances: David Cook.

25-year-old singer David Cook hails from Houston, Texas and discovered his love for singing at an early age. He began singing in the 2nd grade and it was his music teacher that gave him his first solo in his school choir. Like most artists, he started singing in school musicals such as The West Side Story and Singin’ in the Rain. His Blue Springs South High School was also the setting where he started his first band Axium, where he was the lead singer and played guitars between 1999 and 2006. The band was pretty big in the indie scene, placing top in the “Got Milk� independent band contest. While in the band, he started studying theater in University of Central Missouri, but shifted to graphic design and got his degree in 2004. After college, he went to Tulsa, Oklahoma to pursue his music career. When Axium disbanded in 2006, it left David with no choice but to continue towards the path he has started and began his solo career while singing and playing guitars for the regional touring band Midwest Kings.While performing on amateur nights, he was able to record his first EP Incoherent With Desire To Move On with the band. He released his independently produced album Analog Heart in 2006, which he struggled to make in 2 years. Having a degree in graphic design, he also made the artwork. Analog Heart was indeed a heart full to his fans as his album won in Music Equals Life independent album contest. He also nabbed the awards for Absolute Best of Tulsa, an award also received by the city’s popular settlers and pop superstars Hanson.

To his family and friends, David has always been the caring, responsible brother for his siblings, and it was this trait that led him to massive superstardom. His audition for American Idol 7 was accidental; he was only there to support his younger brother Andrew in the Omaha auditions but decided to try-out instead. He sang Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer and the judges immediately fell in love with his strong and definitive husky vocals. He proceeded to Hollywood, while he left his brother with a promise to make it big.

And David Cook sure became big. Even during the early stages of the Hollywood, he set the bar so high that gave his competitors a run for their money. Singing songs of Bryan Adams and Edwin McCain did him good, complimenting the tone of his sexy and enthralling voice. When he reached top 12, David gave America what they have been waiting for: Unforgettable and astounding performances that started a whole different league of talent. Tagged as the clear and consistent frontrunner of this season, every week he makes sure that his performances are original yet refined, actively customizing the arrangement and melodies of the songs in harmony with his style. The way he transformed Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean into a dark, melodic rock and roll song is so exceptional, even Chris Cornell who did the same thing thinks he’s one true artist. All the mentors like Andrew Lloyd Webber and Mariah Carey commend his skill to be extremely creative even under heavy pressure and circumstance, being able to dish out his guitar and instantly invent a refreshing melody to the song he picks. American Idol judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell claim that David Cook is the only contestant ready to jump out of the competition and make a record—all because of his unbelievably unique ability to make every song belong on top of charts.

Aside from his appealing rock star looks and heavenly talent, David Cook also has the professionalism to match any top Hollywood star. After his performance on April 1, 2008, he was reported to have suffered from high blood pressure and was rushed to the hospital. Reports claim that even before finishing his sing Little Sparrow, he was starting to feel his chest stiffen, but waited until the judges to comment on his performance before even saying anything. Although assuring his fans that he’s fine, it was evident that the pressures of the show and his brother’s battle with cancer affected him too much. He also revealed the meaning behind the letters “AC� on his guitar and are also carved on the wristband that he constantly wears during performances. It stands for Andrew Cook, his brother’s name.

David Cook may very well be called a winner as early as now, for he has set a standard for future talents who dream of making it big in the industry. Anytime that he releases a record from now on, it’s sure to be a huge success. Not only does he have the makings of a surefire top recording artist, but he also owns a captivating presence that the music industry is seeking. Fans of the show are definitely excited as the contestants narrow down to four, with David as the clear leading one. David Cook didn’t do it with pure talent alone; he succeeded because he has creativity that surmounts all the aspects in the industry, a genuine heart and a passion fit for an idol.
