I decided after seeing the last AI show in Tulsa that since I had the time, I took a detour in Missouri to
Blue Springs to check out David's hometown and to see the memorial mural that was painted in his honor. I had found out with the help of others on this board that the mural was painted on a building near Kwik Kopy. I got the address to Kwik Kopy and plugged it into the GPS. I got off the main highway and drove what seemed forever through some beautiful country until I started getting closer to Blue Springs. As I curved through the roads, on my final turn that should have put me at my destination, I came upon a road block. Seems Blue Springs was having a festival and had Main St. completely blocked from one end of town to the other. I parked my car, grabbed my backpack and camera and took a stroll down Main. Downtown Blue Springs is an adorable town. The street is lined with small shops. Outer lying companies had tents set up advertising and selling their services or products. There were game booths and treats available. You couldn't help but feel at home in this place. Everyone was so nice. As I walked down Main St, I looked left and right for this mural. I reached the end of town, in about 20 mins and still hadn't seen the mural. So I started asking people about it. The first guy I asked was advertising his fitness center and when I asked him where the mural was that was painted for David Cook, his response (which threw me for a loop) was; 'Whose David Cook?' Hmm...okay..I'll give this guy the benefit of the doubt. Then he yelled over to the next booth and asked them if they knew where the mural was, they just shook their heads, no. This guy had a lap top and searched for information about the mural. Tons of sites came up about David Cook and quite a few for the mural, but none said exactly where the mural was. He apologized and suggested I ask other folks. So I started back toward where I came, asking about the mural, but nothing. I happened upon a booth for the Blue Springs and Independence Examiner. This guy was selling reprints of special edition inserts printed for David. I grabbed up a few of them while I asked this guy where the mural was. He told me that it was probably at Blue Springs South High School and drew out directions for me. I got back to my car and headed to the school. Of course, I got lost and had to stop at a kwik mart, which had high school aged boys working behind the counter. One of them told me where the school was and that the mural was probably there since that was where David went. I got to the school and drove all around it. No mural! I was about to give up and decided to pull into a CVS pharmacy. The first girl behind the counter didn't know where it was, but when she yelled and asked another staff member, that was when an elderly lady in the store said, 'It's on Main St!'. 'It's on the side of a red building on the left.' They gave me detailed directions and off I went. As I came around a turn, you're not going to believe what I say....a road block!! I was back where I started! Okay...dang it...I'm not leaving this town until I find this thing. I grabbed my back pack, camera and headed out looking at every red building I could see. As I started down the street toward the first red building, a noise drew my attention back to where I had just passed. As I turned I caught a glimpse of a yellow banner. I stepped back a few feet to see around this truck that was parked there and sure enough....there it was!!! OMG....it's right there! There was rides for the festival set up within feet of it, so it was hard to get a clear shot of it, but I did my best. [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img]The way that I came into town, this is the first building on the right, but it says below the mural, Welcome to downtown Blue Springs, but you see that if you are leaving town. I was confused. I'm glad I gave it one last try before heading back home to Cincinnati. It is a beautiful mural. It's about 10 ft tall, 20 feet long and painted onto 3 panels that were mounted on the side of a business. In the video that was posted it gives the appearance of being larger and in a more open area. I couldn't get close to it because of the rides they had set next to it. There are 4 large spotlights above it, so I bet it's incredible to see at night, but I couldn't stay to see that. Ike was slamming into Cincinnati and both of my children had called to tell me we had damage.

Just off the floor, Mavid side, next to the ramp. I bought this ticket off Ebay, but have purchased a closer seat. I would like to get what I paid for it $188, but let's talk. PM me if you are interested.

I didn't see this posted. My daughter had E! News on tonight and they did a fun and games behind the scenes report from the show in LA.
I don't know how to attach a link. If you go to: http://news.yahoo.com/i/3134;_ylt=AuhL50Ot...ZeEumNop7lV.nQA It's the tenth video down. There was also one of Paula interviewing David, talking about how he's lost weight and also has to bring up the dating question. It's cute, but now I can't find it. Shoot, it was just on again at 11p. It will repeat again 3a (EST). And I believe tomorrow at 8a and 12p. |
