Yay! I watched the first few episodes of Idol, but then got bored, so know I have a reason to watch this episode!

MJ's blog got what I'm assuming is an official FOX news release about this week's Results Show, and only Orianthi and Kesha are listed, no David. But, as MJ says, it could be that David is supposed to be a "surprise." Or I wonder if that means David's actually taping something to be used later, like for Idol Gives Back or another week's Results Show (like last year when he taped CBTM two weeks in advance and then they butchered it in editing.) But I would rather see David and the guys live.

PS- Has anyone else heard that RYAN STAR (David's friend - who opened up for him on the declaration tour) song BREATHE is going to be played when the top 12 get eleminated each week? I know I read that somewhere and now I can't find it. Maybe on Ryan's website....I have to check n get back --That would be awesome that song is beautiful

Ryan's "Breathe" was being used for the Idol promo all this week on FOX (saw it Friday night during House.) That's probably what you read about, but Breathe would have made a great boot song, too.

It is?! I've heard it on the commercial for this week, but I didn't hear anything about it being the elimination song, If so, that's so awesome! I love Ryan, he's such a talented musician.

I'm intrigued. Should be interesting. If he does sing a Stones cover, I hope that it isn't Paint It Black. Ryan Star already did an excellent job on that one on Rockstar Supernova. Can't top that version, IMO.

Well considering 99.9% of the 25 million or so people watching AI on Wednesday night will have no knowledge of Ryan having done Paint It Black once on TV years ago, I don't think there'll be any kind of "conflict."

I'm thrilled that the Idol producers decided to call on their resident rocker to show everyone how it's done. Paint It Black is my favorite Stones' song and would be phenomenal performed by DCTA (although I was secretly hoping Lee DeWyze would do it on the Tuesday show), but, as I said up thread, "Jumpin' Jack Flash" would work as would "It's Only Rock n Roll (But I Like It)" or "Start Me Up." What's also great about these RS songs is that the lead guitar and the drumming are very rocking and very prominent, so that'll bring some great attention to Neal and Kyle.

As lovely as something like Angie, As Tears Go By, or You Can't Always Get What You Want (or, heaven forbid, Wild Horses) would be as performed by David, please, please, please, AI producers, let David rock out!

I'm curious to see what he does with this song. It does have potential depending upon what he chooses to do with it. I'm intrigued.

I voted yesterday but I see the Archuleta fans are at it again. They have plenty of time on their hands. If there is anything at all on the world wide web to do with Archuleta & voting - they are at it 24/7. They even gave instructions on how to re-set an IP address on another one of these things that restricted them from voting more than X number of times so that could exceed their voting quota per day so that Archuleta could win. Seriously - David Archuleta the best Ido contestant ever. Give me a break.

..as I was reading the thread, before getting to the part about him singing a Stones song.. I was thinking all kinds of things in my head-- hmmmmmm.. what would I want him to sing... hmmmmmm... I have to say, the first thing I thought of was "Souvenir"!!! ..I absolutely LOVE that song, and would've loved to have heard it- and really feel that folks will like that song.. then I was thinking about those great singles from DCTR that never got to see the light of day in 'single-release-dom'... "Lie".. which I feel would appeal to so many people.. "Declaration".. "Life on the Moon".. then of course, "HEROES"!!! --as it has been getting nice TV airplay lately!!! ..even thought of KOTN-- LOVE that song and they would rock it like nobody's business on that AI stage...

..sooo... am I crazy in saying.. or alone in saying.. that... I think I am actually a bit *disappointed* in learning that he will be doing a Stones song..?

It's great general promotion for him to be on national TV, in front of 25 million people. First of all, David and the band will be showing the AI9 contestants how it's supposed to be done as he rocks out to Jumpin' Jack Flash. And I'm sure afterwards Ryan is going to talk to David about the new album, who he's been writing with, when he's going to get in the studio. It will let the vast majority of those watching who don't follow David know that his career is flourishing and to expect the new album later this year. In addition, it'll most likely spur another iTunes bump for DCTR like the Carrie special did, and that's always a good thing.

Well, that's how I see it too. Being on TV is great promotion and so what that he does a Rolling Stones' song. If he rocks it out, as I am sure he will, it's just good PR for him. I certainly hope that Ryan does mention David working on a 2nd album - due out this summer/early fall. If I hear an artist singing a cover and that artist does it really well, I check him/her out to see what they have available because I like the artist and not just the song they sang. David is way past promoting his album which is 2 years old. His appearance on A.I. is going to serve promoting "him" as an artist and his band and we all know what happens when David gets just a little promotion on TV.

I also think it can't escape TPTB that yet again most recently David Cook was inadvertently promoted on TV with NBC using "Heroes" on their sports montage, and on the Olympics & that his version of Billie Jean was used by Olympics Ice Skating couple AND that neither of those two songs were released as singles.

..I'd been so excited about seeing Cookie tomorrow and just hopped on here to share in all the excitement with everyone and see what everyone was writin' about---
..I now almost feel a bit sad after catching up on the posts..
..I never said in any way "ONLY" the Rolling Stones
..and I also made it so very clear that I am SOOOOO very excited that he is on and we will all get to see him-- that is ALL that matters and there is absolutely nothing disappointing in that whatsoever..
..I was just sharing my thoughts about how my mind went wild with ideas about what of his songs he might be singing as I learned of his appearance and read through this thread for the first time.. and just simply shared that as I got to the part of learning that he'd be singing a Stones song, it had been immediately after my mind was going wild with ideas about his songs and which of them he might be singing.. and that just right at that moment, I was kinda surprised and was just still in that spot of thinking of his songs and so wanting him to have that chance to reveal one of his great songs to the rest of the world..

..I guess 'disappointed' must have been the entirely wrong word to use.. but even with its use, it was not intended to mean 'disappointed he was doing a Stones song" in general .. just 'disappointed to suddenly find out he would not be doing one of HIS songs.."...

..that is all that was meant by it, guess it must've clearly been a wrong word choice..

Yeah I suppose I'm a bit disappointed it's not one of his songs that he's playing, because I'd love for him to show off his own talents as a musician. But hopefully he will mix up the song a little bit and show off in that way. I'm still super excited for today to be over and for David to be on my TV, and I love him singing new songs. Can't wait!
