Hello subscribers and readers of the Permanent strand! A new and excellent video of Permanent as performed early in the Declaration Tour (Eau Claire, WI, Feb 18, 2009) has recently been posted on YouTube.
Here's an awesome capture by one of David's best videographers:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhSUiujRbno

Watching this now, however, I'm almost glad he isn't performing this song currently. I don't think I could watch him do this on a regular basis, even on video. It just looks like it costs him too much.

I know, I should have learned by now to expect the unexpected from Mr. Cook, but this really took me by surprise when it happened -- I was listening to the cellcast and even though there were rumors about Permanent being on the setlist, I didn't believe it till I heard it myself. No one video really captured it all, so here are 3 points of view:

Permanent, with intro, Lancaster CA
Permanent, Lancaster CA concert 8-20-09
Permanent, Lancaster CA concert

I don't quite know what to make of this -- seems like a strange time and place (big, noisy fair) to bring back this very special song. Lots of fans commenting on how glad they are to know that David is feeling able to sing this song now -- I'm frankly not so sure based on the vids. Also, he did NOT perform ADAM that night, although it WAS on the setlist as well. PUZZLING Mr. Cook!

Coincidently - or not - an article focused on Permanent appeared at almost the same time -- maybe talking about it with this reporter got him thinking about doing the song live again. David says that he never performed Permanent in Adam's presence but that the album was played for him. Quotable quote:“And I think that song,” Cook told IdolChatter in a phone interview last week, “is gonna be a cornerstone song for me.”

Here's the article link and I believe Mary has posted the full text in another strand.
http://idol.blogs.pressdemocrat.com/10378/

I'm wondering if someone is thinking about releasing Permanent as a real single -- maybe with a video? Maybe he just had to find out how it feels now to perform it live -- we may never know!

awesome! I totally agree with it, but I also think in a way when he says im permanent he is saying that he wrote this song cause in a way adam will live 4 ever, cause the songs about him, and music is enternal, it lasts forever. Chances are for a LONGG time someone will have a record, or itll be floating around on computers:] idk y I think that, thats just what I thought when I fist heard the song, and of course alot more but yea, and I dont blame you for crying at all! I'm the exact same way! I NEVER NEVER cry! Im not heartless or anything, I just dont like to, thats who I am but no matter how hard I try that song always manages to jeark a tear, and anything else sad from cook.

Hi followers of the Permanent strand. We continue to garner about 500 views per month, which is just amazing considering there isn't much active posting going on. All comments are welcome!

FYI there is a new "lyric" discussion strand at DCO that may be of interest to people who have following THIS strand over the past year. I'm cross posting a link there on DCO to refer people to THIS strand on the Dash as well.

On the 1-yr anniversary of the release of DCTR, David performed Permanent as part of an epic concert in which he sang the whole record as a setlist from start to finish. There are several excellent videos of this performance at The Venue, Hammond IN, November 18, 2009:

This also marks the 1-year anniversary of this amazing discussion here on The Dash, which was started by Daniel exactly a year ago today.
In celebration of this, a new, ongoing discussion of Permanent has begun on DCO. All are invited!

Just updating the record here on the first Permanent discussion strand. There is a strand over on DCO where fans are voting each week for their favorite videos from the Declaration Tour. Recently, the favorite videos of Permanent performances were reviewed. They decided to choose 2 videos for this very special song, rather than only 1 which is the usual.

The Best of the Tour video of Permanent from early in the tour was posted by theEmlale from the concert in Oxford, Mississippi:
Permanent performed at Ol' Miss
The Best of the Tour video of Permanent performed late in the tour comes from the 1 year anniversary of the Record release concert, in Hammond, IN -- video by Angie:
Permanent performed in Hammond

This is a good time to show your gratitude to David for this wonderful song - please support the Race for Hope DC on May 2 -- go and run/walk, donate NOW, or be a virtual runner and help raise funds to fight brain cancer. You can donate online:Race for Hope DC

There are many beautiful and moving stories and thoughts here, even though this strand is more than a year old. Also, there are resources about Permanent (interview links, videos, etc) posted in this strand, but they are not being updated. However, a sister strand at David Cook Official (DCO) is frequently updated, so if you are looking for a current/ongoing discussion of Permanent, you may want to check it out at this link: Permanent Discussion on DCO

Twitter campaign for David Cook, the Race for Hope, and World Voice Day April 16
Friday April 16 is World Voice Day. Help us spread the word and help David Cook raise more funds to fight brain cancer with this Twitter campaign. Anytime Friday is good, but we are focusing especially on 7-10PM EST. Make sure your tweet includes David Cook (full name) Race for Hope (full name) and #worldvoiceday. We suggest the following, which is short to encourage re-tweeting:

David Cook gives a voice 2 the fight against cancer. Donate to Race for Hope & help find a cure http://bit.ly/7HRMY9 #worldvoiceday

See you on Twitter (NEMOCookFan there) Thanks for working for David and against cancer.

This is a superb vid of Permanent as performed early in the Declaration Tour -- thanks for sharing it. Although David has not performed the song since the live American Idol Finale this year (may) and not for several weeks prior to that one, it is still amazing and memorable.

Glad you enjoyed the vid Mr007. Permanent continues to do its important work, especially on YouTube. We can all help by continuing to watch the YT performances of Permanent, Rating them, commenting on them, and helping address the comments and questions posted there from new fans and those currently grieving the loss of a loved one. The Permanent vids on YT attract an astonishing number of new views considering how old the vids are. In addition, new covers of Permanent are posted continuously on YT.

I think we can help David's music do good in the world by sharing Permanent with people who need it in their lives. The new Race for Hope team will be forming soon as well. Save the date: Race For Hope DC May 1, 2011.
