I have yet to see Come Back to Me on the Playlists for either Z100 or WPLJ. I think we need to start requesting it, guys . . .

Come Back to Me played yesterday morning on WPLJ around 10:45 am. First time I've heard it on a NY station.

It has not been added to Z100 yet but it was played 4 times on WPLJ yesterday. The playlist on PLJ's website only shows their top 30 songs. If you want to request it, use this mediabase form. It is listed on there.

WPLJ added CBTM to its rotation this week and actually played it 5 times yesterday. That is heavy airplay for an HAC.
As for Z100 -- we went through this last fall with LO. It took a while, but they did eventually add it and played it fairly frequently for about 6 weeks. And as we've explained before, big market Top 40 stations skew overly Rhythmic in their playlists. Add to the fact that CBTM isn't even technically in the Top 40 yet (it's #45 this morning) many Top 40 stations won't play it until it reaches that point (hence the term "Top 40.") And for the large market stations like Z100 or the new WXRK, a song pretty much as to be in the Top 20 before they'll play it. So, like Tina said above, use the Mediabase form to request it on WPLJ because CBTM is already becoming a big HAC hit. Top 40 is always a harder nut to crack, but airplay is still building there as well. Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. LO has been out for 7 months and is still racking up substantial airplay in three formats. Heck, even TOML is still racking up substantial airplay after nearly a year. And like those two, CBTM is also going to be around for a while. Now if only we could get poor BBS some respect from Rock radio. |

Thanks for the info. I am always confused about the limited number of songs that Z100 does play. Yet, I never really thought too hard about it. Now I get it.

z100 plays the same songs every hour and i wish they would play CBTM but they havent yet... Z100 and many other big market Rhythmic-leaning Top 40s literally do play the same 5 songs every hour and 15 minutes. That is their top rotation. After that they give priority to the rest of the Top 20, and then squeeze in whatever remains in the Top 40 (or in Z100's case, they pretty much never go out of the Top 30.) These stations are trying to go for the younger demographic which has shorter listening periods, so they're trying to hook them with the top songs, making sure they hear the top songs in the short amount of time they're listening, ostensibly so that they'll stick around long enough to hear a commercial. Of course, once the commercials come on their target audience scurries off to another station to see what's on there or they turn their iPods back on and forgo radio all together. |

im in new york and i have never heard barbasol on the radio. i have only heard come back to me once BBS is getting very, very limited airplay right now on only a handful of radio stations. In fact, I can name them by heart, there are so few: WACC Enfield, CT - college station, plays it 4 or 5 times a day, but not a Mediabase reporter WRTT Huntsville, AL - Rock station, plays it once or twice a night, overnight, reports to Mediabase KFRQ McAllen, TX - Rock, plays it once or twice a night, overnight, reports to Mediabase WIIL Chicago, IL - Rock, plays it once every other night, overnight, reports to Mediabase KUCD Honolulu, HI - an Alternative station, not on yes.com, but reports to Mediabase There were also a few one-time plays on WJCU, a college station in Cleveland, OH; WYBB, an Alt station in Charleston, SC where it lost a new music challenge; KATT, a Rock station in Oklahoma City, OK where it lost a challenge to Hinder; and some Top 40 radio station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada where it lost in a challenge to some Canadian disco song!! BBS is having a hard time getting airplay, although it did get an official "add" by WRTT this week which shows up to other stations in Mediabase and Allaccess.com reports, so hopefully that'll get other stations interested. There is a distinct Idol bias in Rock radio. They're very snobby in who they deem worthy of letting on their airwaves and David Cook has no track record in Rock radio, so to them he's no different than Taylor Hicks or Ruben Studdard. They need to be educated!! Hopefully David will be able to do some Rock radio or magazine-related interviews to get the word out that he's a legitimate rocker. In the meantime, you can always drop an email to your local Rock or Alternative stations' program and/or music directors asking them to take a listen to the song with an open mind, and you can fill out Mediabase request forms, writing in Bar-ba-sol in the bottom right corner. Here's a generic Mediabase request form, just replace the XXXX in the URL with the real call letters of your station: http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/7/stationp...p?c_let=xxxx-FM And, of course in New York, with the switch at WXRK from a long-time Rock format to a redundant Rhythmic-leaning Top 40 format, I don't know if there's another outlet for BBS. |

I'm in New York too and I'm not expecting to hear Bar-ba-sol on any of the stations. But I heard Come Back to Me for the first time on PLJ between 4:30 and 5:00. Light On and Time of My Life are still being played a lot on that station, so if you want to hear Come Back to Me, request it a lot. I'm sure they'll play it.

It is listed on there. Thanks Tina!! I just requested all 3 of his songs (how could I leave the other 2 out when they were staring me in the face?!) and I'll keep coming back to it! Psyched to hear that PLJ played it 5 times in 1 day!! Since I never listen to the radio (too busy listening to a certain cd!), I'm always wondering what kind of airplay he's getting. I know - sooo frustrating - do we even HAVE any rock stations anymore?! |

I know Z100 hasn't added it yet but it doesn't stop me from sending them a mediabase request, I just manually type CBTM in
The only Rock stations that I get (I'm in Queens, NY) are WRXP which I think is labeled an alternative station, I send the mediabase requests to them too, manually typing in Bar-ba-sol. If they can play Snow Patrol, Coldplay, the Ting Tings and Weezer, don't tell me you can't play David Cook. I know some have said they've spoken to DJs there who have said it'll be hard for David to break past the Idol stigma (Rachel was this you that they said this to?) but it can't hurt to request it. The only other Rock station I get is 104.3 and that's classic rock. I can get 102.3 in my car, which is WBAB, a Long Island rock radio station. I'm not sure what format they are, the site doesn't say classic rock but looking at their recently played songs they seem mostly classic rock, with some newer music randomly thrown in. Not sure if they would play him, I sent an e-mail request, guess I'll see if I get a response. |
