So many current tweets from David indicate that he is still writing songs--when is this new CD due? First, it was said to be released in early summer, now...I don't know. Will he ever finish it?

...He needs to find another label though, who will appreciate what he has to offer.

I'm not sure what I think about that. To me, if he were to leave RCA for another label, it could be taken as being very ungrateful. So, if I were him, I would be extremely careful. The last thing he needs is to end up being indie again and not have a major label supporting him.

Looks like early next year, but who knows? If it is early next year, what's good about this is 1) more time to perfect the work, 2) less competition than if released during the holidays, 3) can tour during Spring and Summer, 4) can promote CD and, hopefully, new radio hit on AI. What's bad about this is 1) no holiday gift buying push, 2).....I can't really see another bad thing about this.

I find it interesting that songs are still being created. I'm assuming they are in contention for being included in the CD? Does that mean they are not satisfied with what they have already? I got excited to see that Neal is working as a co-writer on some of the songs. My "pony" is for some of his work to be on the CD and not just tucked away as a hidden song. He is a good writer and I really do like his work and would love to see him get credit for something produced on a major label.

I couldn't agree more. It takes time to put out a quality cd. Two to three years inbetween cd's is normal. I feel it might be in his best interest to wait after the holidays. Too much competition for the xmas rush. When his first cd came out after idol he was in competition with some heavy hitters. He was #3 with right under 300,000 sold. Beyonce and Nickelback beat him out. I look at the chart toppers every week most #1's don't even hit 200,000. For example Toby Keith was #1 last week with only a little more than 69,000 total sold. I think his best chance to debut at #1 is after the holidays. It's always good to be able to put #1 on your resume. And I think David is capible of achieving that.

I find that all very interesting. It seems like there's been a ton of writing of this one little (okay, hopefully not very little) album! I think there should be an EP or something of songs that didn't make the cut. I know I'd like the sound of that! smile.gif

I don't think major labels normally put out EPs, do they? Sure would be lovely, though. I'll be curious to see if there is a cohesiveness to this upcoming CD what with all the tunes being written. It will be interesting to see what songs are actually picked.

I think he's been writing for other artists and it's always good to keep the juices flowing and come up with some songs and keep them ready.

It's great to not have competition when you put out a new CD because it does look good to come out at #1 regardless of how much you actually sold because nobody out there cares how much you actually sold if you can have Billboard announce that so & sos album debuted at #1. However, because David hasn't been heard on the radio much there might be folks out there who simply have "moved on" and aren't really interested in buying his next album. I'm not one of those people naturally but you never know. For sure I doubt he'll have the sales he got like he did for his debut album fresh off of A.I. and at that particular release day, he was going against some heavy hitters though he wasn't that far off #2 spot. The economy is going to hurt as it's industry wide and it seems it's getting worse rather than better. I tend not to buy CDs at Christmas, unless it's a Christmas CD and if I need a small gift for someone, I look to buying DVDs more than CDs. You can always entertain the "kids" with a good DVD on the holiday break far better than a CD. I'll buy a CD when I like the artist and when it's out there, not because I need to grab a quick holiday gift.

I have to say though that I don't know how much being on the radio all the time improves CD sales. I'm sure it doesn't hurt but if you hear it all the time - why buy it? You're bound to hear it on the radio. I also get very tired of an artist when that's all I hear all the time and start scanning for another channel. I am over saturated with Daughtry as a matter of fact because that's all I hear on the radio and every song blends together & sounds the same to me when I hear him though I do like him.

Though RCA hasn't really promoted David (or that's how we feel) it is a MAJOR label. I agree he shouldn't be looking for a better label because there's no guarantee elsewhere either--they are all the same when it come downs to it and certainly some are far less prestigious than RCA. Now management is another total different ball of wax though. You need someone fighting for you all the time.

You make a good point about management. Davids mgr Michelle is seen a lot with David and seems to be real supportive of him. But I wonder if she is a good strategic manager.

I think that he won't get near the sales this time. He isn't the new winner from AI and there are AI fans who lose interest once another season begins. Many people don't even know who David Cook even is because they never watched the show. I'm not setting my bar extremely high for sales.

As far as Christmas purchasing is concerned, I have been known to give a stack of CDs to family members who like music and are interested in the people I enjoy seeing, so I do buy them. Many of the CDs I purchase at shows, though, so that the indie artists make some money. Many artists seem to aim for November so that their CDs are available in case one wants to purchase them as gifts. I guess it is standard for the AI winners to rush theirs out for that reason. Bad news for Mr. Dewyze this November. Josh Groban is dropping his much awaited CD the same week. Goodness knows who else will be as well. I already have my order in for Josh's CD and will certainly purchase more at the stores for others. I don't plan on purchasing Lee's CD, so he gets no help from me.

Since I don't like listening to the radio very much, I don't know if I tire of songs due to them being played a lot. I suffer through listening to the radio when driving with my husband because he enjoys it. I am more than happy to turn it off or change channels as much as possible and never listen when I'm alone in the car. I guess the plus side to radio play for those who do enjoy it, is to get David more known to the public.

I agree about labels and management. I personally wouldn't be jumping ship from a major label like RCA. To me, it might give an indication to the business that the person may be difficult to work with. It is a tough situation and I hope that all works out no matter which direction things take. I'm looking forward to a quality product and hope it is received well by the critics and the public.

Jeannine
