Gee, I like Declaration, but I haven't even been thinking about it as a single -- seems like he'd want to be SURE to keep that presence on HAC -- which Lie or Avalanche would guarantee. Willow, do you really think they will keep that every 6 mos schedule? I thought they'd be anxious to get out at least one more single before tne new Idol albums hit during the holidays and before grammy nominations. The question is whether they will go for a single that expands the fan base (Declaration perhaps) or one that has video/smash hit potential (Lie, Avalanche). Althernatively, I'd like to see Avalanche as a movie soundtrack! (If rock singles were happening, KOTN would have real potential IMO) Holy crap I was thinking that Avalanche should be on a movie soundtrack too. I even have a video in mind. Of course I would be in it I think he has about 4 months to put out another single, before the current AIers hit stores. Hopefully though, he puts out a couple more before he puts out another album. David - Just release all the songs on your album as singles and see what happens |

I think Lie will make a great video, and I'm sure that it's at the top of the list for the next music video. But yeah, any of the songs would make great singles; I don't really care, David on the radio = happiness.

In some way, Permanent, has become a single. I believe I read in a couple of articles that Permanent was charting. I can't really remember where I read it, because I read a lot of articles on him. I know he didn't officially release it as a single, but it seems like it's taken on a life of it's own.

Could someone tell me why there hasn't been a new single release???
I know David is going for the rock market, but seems that releasing something like "Lie" that isn't so rock and is more mainstream, might be a good idea in terms of sales. Going to see if anyone here sees my question this time around: Why not single release? Looking at the charts and spins here, seems that it's time to boost the album. I read that Carrie Underwood asked David to sing "Lie", that it was her favorite song on the album. It's one of mine too and I think it would be a wonderful single and video. So why wait so long between single releases????? |

If RCA is smart, another single will be released ASAP. If they're waiting for David's next album to release another single (as I have heard is the case), this is very bad news for David's career. That means it would be a YEAR AND A HALF between singles (CBTM was released almost 9 months ago) and this is WAY too long between singles for any new artist. People's memories are not that long, and David still can't sell out an arena, like Daughtry can. Most people outside the Idol community still don't really know who David Cook is.
IMHO, CBTM was not a good choice for his second single (not including TOML). It's the safest, most boring, and most generic song on DCTR, and wasn't even written by David. It doesn't showcase his talent or what he is really capable of doing. Light On was a good choice, and at first I thought it was chosen as his first single to "ease" David toward rock audiences after TOML, but CBTM is soft rock at best, and is doing nothing to increase his appeal to rock fans. Bar-Ba-Sol was released to rock stations but received no promotion, and Permanent was only released on a limited basis, for charity, so those don't really count. Neither has received airplay. I don't buy the argument that CBTM still "has legs." It lost its legs a long time ago, and IMO never had long legs to begin with. I do not understand why Avalanche or Lie hasn't been released as a single. To me, those two songs seem the most likely to become HUGE hits. Avalanche would be a surefire hit, as it's among most people's favorites on the album, it is romantic, sexy (without being too sexy), has a beautiful melody, really showcases David's range, and has a great buildup and an extremely singable and catchy chorus. It would appeal to many different audiences and I could see it receiving airplay on AC/Top 40, Hot AC, and even rock radio. Lie would also be a surefire hit, although it might not crossover to the rock audience. It would do great on Top 40/AC and Hot AC, and I could even see it crossing over into the country market, as it has a very country sound to it and tells a story. It doesn't matter that David doesn't have a twang. Many modern country artists do not have one. Either one of these songs would do great, and have crossover potential. They also are both written or cowritten by David and would showcase his songwriting ability. Declaration would also be good, and could have rock crossover potential, but I don't think it has as much of a current "hit" sound as either Lie or Avalanche, and songs like this sound best live, rather than recorded. But something needs to happen soon. If RCA has plans for David to perform for larger venues and arenas, it's too early, unless he headlines for someone else, like Bon Jovi or Daughtry. The current tour isn't helping him increase his fanbase. Most of the people who attend his shows were already fans. Seems to me 19/RCA have been throwing David under the bus. If they refuse to release another single before his next album, I think David really needs to look for another label that will treat him right. They don't realize what a jewel they have. David could be HUGE. But 19/RCA is treating him like a fifth wheel and that's not fair because IMO he has so much more potential than Daughtry. I guess they only have room for one rocker, or two, now that they have Adam Lambert and his style is completely different from Cook or Daughtry's. |
