SPOILER ALERT!!!
I received my pre-order album fan pack TODAY!! I know, early, what the???? But I'm not complaining.... I had not listened to the streaming songs, as I wanted to hear the album with "virgin" ears. LOL Anyways, I am in LOVE! It is a lot softer than I thought, what with the title of "This LOUD Morning". Haha. But it is beautiful!!!! Favorites right off the bat are: (1) Circadian - It's reminiscent of a lullaby, with a gorgeous music box style intro. Cool way to start the album. (2) Fade Into Me - Gahhhh....those lyrics! "We disappear into each other, colors appear and bleed into one. Fade into me, fade into you, two of us melting together until we become something new." This is the most romantic and heart-breakingly longing song I've heard of David's. Again, it has an orchestral, lullaby quality, with the lyrics "fade into me" repeated in a sweet, hypnotic way. I could easily just shut my eyes and drift into a dream-like trance with this one! (3) Paper Heart - I knew I would like this one just from the title alone. More of David's quirky, profound lyrics. The album definitely swerves into deep heartbreak territory with this one. All in all, I see the album as having an arcing love story, as follows: Track 1) Circadian - The album starts out in the "present" with a retrospective look at a failed or failing relationship, with the "hero" unable to sleep in the wee hours of night. Supporting lyrics: "Whose to say the time inside your head keeps running on and on and on and on...Who's to say we'll make it through? I'm starting to think that what we think is never true...I'm closing my eyes, 'cause once the sun rises it's out of my hands." Track 2-4) Right Here, With You; We Believe; and Fade Into Me - In his sleepless state, our "Hero" flashes back to a deeply devoted, intimate and passionate love, which he believes will never end. Supporting lyrics: "And I could never walk away with you here. Nothing's going to stop us now, 'cause we were born to live forever...The tides will always change, and the waves will always break and I will be here waiting all the time...Our love will never die." (RHWY) "Everyone, every single person under the sun, has a moment where they know they've won...We believe there's a reason that we're all here." (WB) "When I'm broken, you're the one thing I need. Like an ocean, I feel you crash over me." Track 5) Hard to Believe - Moving on to facing differences and challenges in relationship. Supporting lyrics: "Stay, tell me the story again, how it all fell apart in the end...when did you find that you can't hold on? When stars fall, and ground breaks, you're sinking...don't tell me that it's over, even though you're finding it hard to believe...Wait, I can see you slipping away, stay with me..." Track 6) Take Me As I Am - Our "hero" is desperately trying to save the relationship/convince the girl to rethink a break-up. Supporting lyrics: "This is my parade, my happy ever after, but only if you're here...We could take tonight, make it last forever, but only if you dare. We could run away, and take the world together, but only if you care." Track 7) Time Marches On - Disbelief as time passes and the relationship is not resolved. Supporting lyrics: "I never thought I'd see myself down here, in the same damn place with a different year...time marches on without you...If you knew then what you know right now, would you have packed your bags and left this town?" Track 8) The Last Goodbye - Our hero finally is angry and acknowledges the relationship is over. Supporting lyrics: "If you hear this on the radio, then we've already said our last goodbye. I won't be there when you get home...I wonder if he holds you like I did, I hope that he can love you better." Track 9) Paper Heart - Heartbreak Supporting lyrics: "What use is a paper heart, when you're stuck in the rain?...all the love that that I hold inside, feel it washing away, washing away, let it fall, 'cause I'm so tired of feeling everything, so damn me and my paper heart..." Track 10) 4 Letter Word - Anger and bitterness Supporting lyrics: "Hold your tongue...you know if we never say, we'll never crash and burn, 'cause love is a 4 letter word...It could all get ruined if it's said out loud." Track 11) Goodbye to the Girl - The album culminates in resigned, yet bruised acceptance. Supporting lyrics: "Paint another picture in black and blue...when did all the gold around us rust? I've got nowhere to hide, to say goodbye to the girl...Take a look at where we used to be, now I'm just a vessel lost at sea..." Track 12) Rapid Eye Movement - Our "hero" has tentative hope for future love, as the dawn closes in, and in exhaustion he finally falls fitfully asleep. Supporting lyrics: "Give me one more quiet night, 'fore this loud morning gets it right...Does this story have an ending? 'Cause I'm needing to escape into the blinding lights of day, to try again..So this is it, these rapid eyes will keep on moving...Is this story worth forgetting?" This Loud Morning fits together very cohesively as a body of work with a classic story of love and heartbreak. I can't think of another album I've heard that tells a story over the entire album so well! David Cook, the producers, and co-writers outdid themselves!!! Has anyone else received their fan pack yet? I was quite surprised when I got an email notification that it shipped on Tuesday. I was almost afraid to post, as I don't want to make anyone feel left out for NOT getting theirs yet. LOL P.S. - Yes, the bonus songs fit into the story arc, too...but it's getting late and I don't have the energy to review those, too. |
