Does anyone know where you can hear the original Time of My Life that won the AI contest? I'd love to hear how David mixed it up, but searching Time of My Life brings back too many searches on YouTube or even here.

Thanks and sorry if this is a repeat.

this is a link to the first time DC performed Time of My Life.

Time Of My Life live performance

If youre thinking of the other songwriter's choice song, that was Dream Big...
- and- it is pretty funny to see what people have done with that song (video tributes, collages, etc.) this is a link to a clip that someone has subtitled with their interpretation of Time of My Life in reverse. at least we're not the only ones who've got it baaad....

I have been looking for this for a while now and can't seem to find it. I, also, would love to hear how he changed it up and how he put his unique touches on the song!!

Yeah, it would be. I joined the AI songwriter vote too late to hear the submissions and never heard anything more about the song other than what Dave has said.

Found this: http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/20...ongwriter_N.htm

http://www.regiehamm.com/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63XGtk8mFUE

and this: http://www.americanidol.com/songwriter/all-contestants.xhtml

but I can't find Regie singing the song. It must have sounded really country.

Thanks for the links. I had wondered what his thoughts were on David singing it and kind of got those answered from Regie's blog...

"As I currently write this, "Time Of My Life" is number one on i tunes. What does that mean? I have no idea - but it sounds good. David Cook seems like a genuinely good guy who can absolutely sing the walls down. In the few seconds I was around him, he seemed humble and truly stunned. I'm blessed to have a small part in his sure-to-be meteoric rise. I wish him well and hope I can write more songs for or with him. If not, God speed David and thanks for a passionate performance."

But, like you, I'd like to hear just how much Cook changed it.....

Here are all the submissions.

http://www.rickey.org/?p=7627

Scroll down to find "The Time of My Life". "Dream Big" is also there for those who haven't heard the original, pre-Cookified version.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have liked this song had Cook not been the one to sing it.

Dear lord what a difference having someone who can actually SING makes to turn a song into something other than nails-on-chalkboard irritating. The songwriter singing "Time of my Life" sounds like a cat being drowned. My only real problem is that it rather sounded like Cook sang the song pretty straight, I guess his saying that he mixed things up meant that he got to vocally mix it up because the music is almost exactly the same...it was just bigger.

"Dream Big" is truly the sign of what a real artist Cook is. That song was BORING and twangy country - I wanted to nod off 1/2 way through it. How he heard that and created his slamming rock rendition of the song I'll never know. I still don't understand why people trashed that song, I thought it was worlds better than "Time of my Life."

Wow he really changed Dream Big up. I'm not sure why ppl trashed Dream Big either. I thought his performance of the song was awesome especially when you hear how it was originally done & how much he changed it.

Maybe he wasn't allowed to do too much to Time of My Life since it was the winning song? I dunno.

I am not a fan of Hamm's voice. He kind of has this country twang to his voice that is slightly annoying. David sang the song a million times better.

As for Dream Big, yeah it was completely Cookified. I love it! I remember reading about that song being written for Brooke.

i just hope that DC would include Dream Big in his CD...i luv this song better than time of my life cause it's more rockerish. but i guess they chose TOML because its more fitting as the coronation song, I guess. but still DC rocked out both songs.... but random thought... you know how DC said that after reading an article about Frank Sinatra and how he gets the vibe of the song by reading the lyrics first... i think that's how he chose to sing dream big. the lyrics kinda spoke to him and he just arranged it to suit his style, which worked out great. now even more random thought... he probably chose this one too cause there's a mandy moore link in it. okay hear me out....you know that mandy moore has an album/song titled WILD HOPE. if you listen to the dream big chorus the line reads "it takes WILD HOPE to make the stars worth reaching for...so reach out for something MOORE *uumm* more". see you guys he still has his mandy moore crush big time. tongue.gif

Wow! Dream Big was really changed up. TOML wasn't changed that much, except that they got someone who could actually sing it. wink.gif

smile.gif I think David turned "Dream Big" into the type of "anthemic" song he talks about wnting to create and sing. I agree - it is many times better than "Time of My Life." Hopefully "Dream Big" will appear on the new album.

Thank you, thank you, Joey507, for posting the link to the Idol song submissions. I never got to hear the songs when they were posted during the show and I've been dying of curiosity to hear the originals. I agree that Cook didn't tinker with TOML much, but I certainly prefer hearing him sing it rather than the original artist. What David did with Dream Big is nothing short of amazing and it's just a pity that that wasn't chosen as his coronation song.

rickey wrote after he heard all the songs running in the songwriting competition, that "the finals are going to suck"...I wonder what he's thinking now after the multi-mega-success of Cook's TOML...but I honestly agree about Dream Big...the original's very slow and has no spirit of winning at all..can only imagine how the writer'd be in deeply shock when Cook turned that track into an upbeat-heart-pumping rock track...
One conclusion stands: DAVID COOK R-O-C-K-S.......!!!!! wink.gif

Haha, I remember the HORRIBLE GAWDAWFUL process that was voting. I was determined to suck it up and vote this year because of last years atrocious (and the worst idol song ever, imo) coronation song. This is my now? Ick.

And I remember I did what Cookie did. I gave each about 30 seconds and skipped. I hated them all, except Stronger, which I thought was bearable.

And I remember I never gave TOML a chance after 'magic rainbow'. Hah. My ears were RINGING after that. I still can't listen to a full song from that list. It makes me shudder. For real.

I didn't gave anything much votes really, except Stronger.

So you can imagine my jaw-drop when Cookie did Dream Big. I took to it INSTANTLY. I now love that song. So yes, I think no matter how much you focus on the lyrics, until you HEAR him sing it... wow, right?

As for what I think of TOML... See my siggy. Lol. I like to edgier/acoustic version a lot more though.
