We at David's Cookie Jar are excited and enthusiastic about working with David-Cook.org on the Operation Give Back project. It just seems to be a natural progression from David's call to give back. To be more aware of the world beyond our own doors. We can do so much as a group.
There is another project that we at DCJ are working on

A PEARL FOR DIANA - this is a very personal project for us. One of our own was diagnosed with breast cancer and has been unable to work so we started the Pearl for Diana project.
One of our own, Diana R., is battling breast cancer. You can join in her fight by purchasing A Pearl for Diana. This simple necklace is our statement of support. A single pink freshwater pearl floating on a copper colored bead cord. It's beautiful, elegant, and best of all, the proceeds will help defray Diana's medical expenses.

Sometimes all it takes is a single common interest to bring people together. The love of a certain song, a lyric, a melody - a scruffy-faced musician with a penchant for crosswords. And then that one thing opens a door into someone else's world and you find that you share much, much more than that song, or those words, or that guy.

That's what happens in the Cookie Jar. Cookies come together because of David Cook, but they stay together because they find that, no matter where they live or what they do or how old or young they are, they are pretty much the same. The same things make them laugh and cry and nod their heads and snap their fingers. They share the same hopes and fears and dreams and struggles. David Cook, it turns out, is merely a catalyst. The agar in our petri dish.

Friendships are made and bonds are formed, and because they are true Word Nerds, Cookies realize the power of words and ideas. They know that if you put intention behind them, and throw in some determination and action and maybe a catchy 6/8 time signature, anything, ANYTHING is possible.

Inspired by David's desire to help cancer victims and others who battle adversity, the Cookies have launched an effort to raise money for these worthy causes. Among the organizations we support are the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA), Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST) and Stand Up 2 Cancer. Our members are generous and caring and are working hard to change the world, as individuals and as a collective group. We feel that David and his music are gifts to us, and now we want to give back.

What or who, exactly, are the Cookies? Are they delectable? Are they nutty? Are they half-baked? Perhaps all of the above.

The self-named Cookies are fans of, nay, FANATICS for David Cook. They share a near-obsessive love of his music, his voice, and his bling. For many, this obsession extends to his boots as well. For all of them, more than the music is the man himself - the extraordinary talent that has reached into their living rooms, their iPods and their hearts and brought happiness to their lives.

At any given moment, a Cookie is listening to a David Cook song on an audio playing device of some sort. And if a David Cook song should happen to play on the radio or television, that person trying to contain their glee and failing miserably? Is a Cookie. A Cookie has voted for David Cook approximately eleventy-billion times during the course of American Idol, has seen him at least once on tour or has elaborate plans to see him at some point, even if it means mortgaging the household pets.

A Cookie can probably recite to you from memory the lyrics to any David Cook song he has written, since, oh, puberty and can tell you the album name and often date and place where it was recorded. Many Cookies can also describe for you the location and appearance of all David's tattoos and although their correlation to his musical ability is unclear, it is thought that they enhance it in some mystical way.

The Cookies are dedicated, intelligent, funny and interesting fans. And while they have as many hormonal urges as the next fan, it should be noted that for every three discussions about David's eyes/hair/pants etc., there is at least one conversation about whether or not he is eating well, getting enough sleep, and/or enjoying himself. The Cookies don't just obsess, they care.

The Cookie Jar has just completed the paperwork to become a LLC and we have set up our Board of Directors. Please visit us for more information

The Cookie Jar, made David a "proud parent of sorts" with our Stand Up 2 Cancer Team and we are embarking on a fundraiser for ABTA and FAST- the information on this will be under the Charitable Contributions Page

Dear David, I hope that you get the chance to read this and all of the other letters that have been posted here. I realize that this has to be a completely surreal time of your life. Think back to where you were last year this time. What I would wish for you is that you hold this close to your heart and know that you have people whom you have never met and will probably never meet who want nothing but the best for you. You are now in a position to make a difference, although I would be willing to bet that you have always made a difference just by being who you are. We are out here supporting you and rooting for you.

You may not realize that you have already made a difference in the lives of so many. I am one of your older fans, but what you have done for me is to give me back a time of my life that I thought that I had lost. A time when I could just enjoy the music and the musician just for the God given talent and artistry. I have to admit that you have also given me the chance to experience a "crush" again, and I know that I am not the only one.

So moving forward, enjoy this time, believe what your heart is telling you and every once in a while just stop to take it all in. We are here and behind you all the way, Bridget

I have to admit that I am a fairly new viewer of American Idol. I just began watching when Chris Daughtry was on and after he left, I watched sporadically. Last year I watched and was completely entertained by Blake Lewis but I didn't particularly care for Jordin Sparks. This year I was hooked from the moment of David Cook entering into the top 24, I saw his audition and hoped that it wasn't just me. Now to my question...

I don't remember this much excitement or publicity for any of the past idol winners, was I just not paying attention? Or is this more about David than about Idol.
