Yep, grandma here too. There are a few of us on the forum here! We flower children from the 60's are rockin' grandmas now, LOL.
Happy to hear I'm not the only Grandma on this site. You're right! We ARE rockin' Grandmas! I can't sit still when he sings...even if it's a ballad. Who cares what his age is...he's a brilliant singer, knows how to entertain and makes us move. I can't wait until he puts out his own cd in Nov. I like that...ROCKIN GRANDMAS!!! LOL

Mother of three boys and Grandma of two beautiful grandsons.
I love David Cook!!! He is a real talent, and I am excited to be able to follow his career. I was married to a Rock-n-roll musician for 34 years so it is in my blood. Age has nothing to do with the love of music and great talent. I think that David has a chance to be the best Idol ever!!!!
I am going to the KC show on the 30th of August and am really looking forward to it. This will be the third AI tour that I have gone to. Went to see Season four in Des Moines with Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice and last years in Omaha Nebraska. The year that I went to see Bo he was not there because of his hospitalization, but the show was very good. Last years show was great and this years should be the best as I think the talent overall was better then it has been since season two.

I'm a mother of three and grandma of three beautiful girls.
David hit me like a ton of bricks. His voice is amazing, he's cute as a button and his love and caring for his family stole my heart!
As someone said, we grew up in the'60s, I'm 56, and know what a true rocker is. David is the whole package and I look forward to listening to him for many years.
I'm going to the concert on July 31 in Newark, NJ and I can't wait. This is my first Idol concert and I am really looking forward to it. I probably will act like a fool but I don't care! I'm bringing my 11 year old granddaughter with me and she is very excited, I even bought her a red shirt to wear so she has on David's color.
I haven't been looking forward to a concert this much since I saw The Beatles in '65 and '66 at Shea!

Not a grandma, but sure old enough to be one! Love this guy...no, totally OBSESSED with this guy!
It's becoming a sickness. The upside? Well, I'm a full-blown rocker again and it feels so great! I've really missed it (that's what kids will do to ya) . He's has changed my life. My soul has crawled out from under the depression rock that's it's been hiding under since my husband died a long time ago. I have alot to thank DC for, I only wish I could thank him in person. I don't think he has the slightest clue of what he has done for some of us. What is it about
him? There's been plenty of smart, sexy, talented guys that have passed through our lives that we enjoyed, but never truly LOVED!.... I think it's his soul....I actually feel his soul when I look into his beautiful eyes. I have tickets to two of his concerts coming up. One I'll be going to alone! It'll be bittersweet though to see him and not be able to talk to him or touch him. I'll just be an old lady that he won't even notice. That's the part that hurts. How did I get myself into this predicament? Everything in my life is better again, but my heart aches at the same time.
Any "cougars" out there with my same problem, please feel free to e-mail me at Cooked.and.Stoked@gmail.com Would love to hear that I'm not the only one out there that went too far over DC.

I agree with you, it is his soul. I am amazed that someone so young could care for people the way he does. His love for his mother and brothers is so evident and he doesn't hide it as so many people his age will do.
He cares about the other contestants feelings and will step back so they can have their turn in the lime light.
He is quite a young man!

Hi Jenney, Silverlady, Lou Piner, Grandma Joyce, Stef C (thanks for representing your grandma) and Cook & Stoked (pretend he's your adoptive grandson)....
Since we're all old enough (except Stef C - but you're very thoughtful to represent your grandma) we have experienced a lot of emotions, disappointments, thrills and excitements in our lives and yet as we get older we realize that we still are the same ppl inside...it's just the exterior parts that change LOL. I think David represents some moments in our lives that connect to those experiences. The support he gets and displays from and for his family and friends, his determination to be himself, his gracious behavior, his appreciation for the recent experiences of AI. We also appreciate the dedication and hard work he put into becoming the musician and singer he his. He represents middle America and the American dream of succeeding through perseverance. He has admirable qualities ppl like. He sings those love ballads as if he were singing to each of us as individuals and we melt and sigh like we did when we were young.....but those emotions we experienced are still with us and he fills those moments we want to experience again. I'm sure he just thinks we are crazy old ladies and why are we so interested in him. Someday, he will be in our generation and maybe he'll understand how someone older can be crazy about him.
Cook & Stoked perhaps he has ignited those emotions that have been buried inside since your husband passed. I alway meet wonderful ppl at all the concerts I attend. So go alone and strike up a conversation with ppl next to you....exchange emails and take lots of photos to remember the night. I waited about 45 minutes with a large group of young ladies at the LA concert to see him after the show. A friend of mine found a poster someone left on the sidewalk and it said "I love David Cook". Lord knows what he was thinking when he saw that poster and looked at me but it got his attention and he signed the poster. I also gave him my concert ticket and asked him to sign it for my grandson. I'm glad I did it and my grandson is very happy too. My grandson thinks David Cook American Idol is his full name. LOL
I also belong to another FORUM for another singing group and we have friends from all over the world and meet in different cities, have lunch together, do some site-seeing and talk about our favorite guys in the group. It's another good way to meet ppl with the same interest and share stories.
I don't think Grandmas for Cook is the same as Coogers for Cook....that's more for the 30ish to 45+ group. I don't think you need to be a grandma just old enough to adopt a grandson or DC as a grandson.
Ladies....let's get more grandmas for DC so he knows he's represented by all age groups.
Yes, yes, yes............I love David Cook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I've never had children, but I'm old enough to be a grandmother...
I agree with everyone else that he just seems to bring something from the "old days" with him. I started losing interest in new artists in the late 80's because music just seemed to be changing, and the artists didn't interest me anymore. I don't know if that was because of the artists or my age.
I only watched Idol this year because of the writer's strike, and from the first top 12 show I told my hubby that I liked DC because he was more "Springsteeny" than anyone else. And that's like my ultimate compliment.
Fortunately I got to see the first Salt Lake City concert, and I just love DC's energy and audience interaction. It's obvious he loves what he's doing, and I hope he never loses that. And the backbend just killed me. (I'm sorry he got injured, but the more I look at the pictures of it, I'm amazed anyone other than a 14 year old gymnast can do that.)
I live in Salt Lake, and I think Archie's a great kid with incredible talent, but the old rocker in me just goes crazy for DC!
Remember when it was a rare event to see your favorite artist perform? You had to hope they were on "Sonny and Cher" or "American Bandstand" or that one Saturday night show with Don Kerschner. (Was that his name?) Thank heavens for Youtube! You youngsters have it easy!

Hey Grandmajoyce here, how are all the other grandma's doing?
All these posts are so right. David brings the inner flower child from the '60s in me too. I remeber the feeling when I saw The Beatles at Shea and David brings out those same feelings.
My friends think I'm crazy, my kids think I'm crazy and my co-workers think I'm crazy too! At least I have my 11 year old granddaughter to talk about David to, she doesn't think I'm crazy, at least I hope not.
CookedandStoked I know exactly how you feel. My husband passed awhile ago too when my kids were teens. The empty feeling never goes away but at least we have David now to think about!
This thread is a good way to keep us all in touch with the other "Rocker Grandmas". Daughtry's site has a "YAYA" site (young at heart) where the "YaYas" post every day, just to say hi and talk about whatever is going on in their lives. We should try to do that !

Finally, I find an area I identify with. I'm a grandma and expecting a 3rd great grandchild. DC revived my love of music of all kinds and it's working in my life in a great way. I now have him singing in my ears while I walk and do my work even though I have health problems. This guy is magic with music. I can't say enough good things about this young man. I know no-one is perfect but his music sure is and I'm sure he's pretty close. My doctor is smiling and now he wants to get an MP3 player too.
I think it's good that the person generating all this attention is someone we can respect and admire. He's well spoken, a gifted musician and his whole family seems to be what America used to be all about.
I would also like to thank all the member who are so generous with their pictures and videos. And Thank You Travis for all you do and putting up those high quality videos. There's a lot of nice people on this web page. I've been a "lurker" for a while now and I think you're all pretty great. I won't get to go to a performance but those that do are sharing the experience and it's wonderful.
There, I'm a lurker no longer, and with a plethora of words. Sorry.
He's right, the words sound trite but Thank You David Cook. Don't change.

Yep, I'm a grandma, too! I have two granddaughters who are 5 & 7 years old. My daughter is 31 and thinks I am crazy! She went with me to the AI concert here in Vegas, and we had the best time together (she is my best friend as well as my daughter)! Well, she and my stepdaughter both think I want to stalk DC and run away with him! LOL! I would if I didn't love my husband so much!
But getting to grandma's for David! He has really woken something up in me, that's for sure. I have read from a few other posters the same feelings I have had. I was very much into music till the very early 80's, and then music got really weird. I liked early Madonna, the Bangles, the Go Go's, and a couple of other artists. But I seemed to lose interest. Rap and hip hop just killed it for me. I had a few groups I stuck with, but I hardly even listened to the radio any more.
I kind of accidentally started watching AI this last season (I hadn't watched since the first season), I saw all the episodes. David Cook started to grow on me from Billie Jean on. I still liked Carly, Jason, Brooke, and MJ, but DC was the one I couldn't wait to see each week! His talent is amazing! He can sing anything and turn it into something we can enjoy hearing, it seems. He can even take a very popular song, and you don't want to hear the original any more! Only DC's version seems to be the right way! That is truly incredible talent!
And I agree with the person that says it is his soul that we love! He has an old soul, and he just seems to naturally know how to connect with anyone! He is mature and confident, qualities we don't usually see in 25 year old men. We see how he connects with his family, with kids, with the Idols, etc. and we see how wonderful he is with everyone. It's hard not to fall in love with this guy! He also knows how to treat a lady! He has admitted that he is a romantic! Wow! He is truly amazing!
One more thing I love about David...he gives great hugs! We have all watched these videos over and over and the ones I love are the ones where he hugs his mom and Mrs. Gentry, his music teacher. That squeeze he gives them and the audible "mmmmm"; he is really showing them how much he cares! I want a hug like that!
I could go on and on about what I love about David Cook, but we all get it! The guy is so amazing, especially for his young age! I know guys my age (50) that aren't as together as Cook! God broke the mold with DC!

Hi, you just did introduce yourself! Welcome! It makes just as much sense to introduce yourself in a thread that catches your eye as it does in the general introduction section, as far as I'm concerned.
This thread seems to have a touched a nerve out there. Maybe we should start a Grandmas for Cook number too! I don't mind being called a cougar and I personally have nothing against the whole idea, but in reality I'm not a cougar, I adore David but don't think about dating him.
QUOTE (lizajd @ Jul 19 2008, 12:18 AM)

But getting to grandmas for David!
Yes, he appears to have awoken the sleeping rocker in alot of us former rock and roll types! It's wonderful. I did get into some other kinds of music in the 80's and 90's, more new age and world music, because I just wasn't inspired by rock any more. Then in the late 90's my husband got into jazz so I've been listening to that too. Now I spend most of my time listening to Analog Heart. Haven't gotten tired of it yet, amazingly.
QUOTE (lizajd @ Jul 19 2008, 12:18 AM)

One more thing I love about David...he gives great hugs! We have all watched these videos over and over and the ones I love are the ones where he hugs his mom and Mrs. Gentry, his music teacher. That squeeze he gives them and the audible "mmmmm"; he is really showing them how much he cares! I want a hug like that!
I would love a big bear hug from David! He seems like such a loving person.

There's a lot of nice people on this web page. I've been a "lurker" for a while now and I think you're all pretty great. I won't get to go to a performance but those that do are sharing the experience and it's wonderful.
There, I'm a lurker no longer, and with a plethora of words. Sorry.

Way to go ROCKIN' GRANDMAS!
Well, I have no idea if this will even post since it's my first one (finally!) but we'll see....
Yes, another Grandma here (though I usually write "Gramma"). I'm 64 - actually looking forward to 65 next year when medicare kicks in! $$$
I have 5 wonderful grandchildren, 8 - 14 years old. Like the rest of you I love music & always love the rockers.
Followed Idol in season 4, voting for Bo, & was soooo deflated when I pulled up to the arena to see the tour and saw the sign saying Bo would not be performing due to illness. Season 5 pretty much ended when Chris was eliminated though I did go to the tour. Of course his CD made up for everything & then even better I got tickets as soon as they went on sale to see DAUGHTRY at the CA State Fair last August - took my 2 daughters & their friend. I can still feel where his pick hit me on my chest!! (I let the friend keep it since she plays guitar & wanted it for her next gig & actually was the one who picked it up & I guess that's what nice Grandmas do, but, if that had been David's there's no way I would have let it get away!)
[size="2"][font="Georgia"]As for this David Roland Cook........ Because of him I now have:
- High Speed internet instead of the dial-up I had until March
- a DVR, again since March
- an Itunes account (guess what it's filled with

- burned CD's for the first time (must have his music with me always)
- an order at Amazon for his CD (of course I did the same for Chris)
- a PayPal and Ebay account for my first purchase for guess what - tickets to the idol tour
- a DAVID COOK ROCKS bracelet
- a
red COOK ROCKED THE HOUSE JULY 9'08 SACRAMENTO,CA t-shirt - autographed!!!
(now, how do I wash it???)
- a wordnerd #
- David photostamps
- money spent on magazines I would usually never buy - People, Rolling Stones, TV Guide, etc.
- an insatiable need to follow David's every word & move & of course that means:
- an increasing backlog of work that goes undone
- an increasing backlog of sleep
- way too many hours in this chair
- family & friends who question my fanaticism
- a son-in-law who has (jokingly I hope) limited my mention of David - tellling me of when his father did the
same to his sister when she was in high school & could talk of nothing but the Bay City Bombers
- such pleasure in listening to David's music & yet surprise when I find some songs still bring a tear
- such respect for him & his family
When we were at the Sacramento concert my 12 year old granddaughter who was at the other side of the fan area from me said to David " My grandma's your biggest fan" to which he replied "really!!?" Didn't hear it but can picture it & brings a smile. For me, other than the dorky, nerdy things I found myself doing which might be another post, my sweet memory from the night is a comfy, tender, hug from David .....aaahhhh ;0
Thanks to all who provide all the news, links, pictures, etc. I am so tech challenged but really appreciate this site. Hope this posts. Betty

Hi
I vowed I would never join this fan site since I am 60 years old and grandmother of three! But after reading the Grandma's for Cook posts I figured I am not the only Gramma obsessed with a young rocker. What I really appreciate is being introduced to groups I was totally unfamiliar with like Switchfoot and Collective soul. I also discovered YouTube because of David. I am going to the concert in Green Bay. I just hope the idols are not burned out by then!

Well, I too am a grandma. I have 2 grown children and 2 grandkids 11 and 8. I am so excited to see that I am not the only grandma that has been truly touched by this young man. He has changed my life for sure. My husband passed away three years ago, and with his passing also went the love of many things including music.
Music was a huge part of my teen life and then for many years after that. I didn't realize how much my life had be become so dark and lonely through my husband's illness and sudsequent death.
Then came David-I feel alive again. All of you have made the statement that he has touched you in so many ways. This is exactly how I feel as well.
I became part of this group-never having done anything like that in my life. Getting up each morning after a concert to check out You Tube to see his previous night performance. I wear a David Cook Rocks bracelet. I even went out and purchased an Ipod so that his music would always be with me. I listen into rickey.org each concert night to hear him sing LIVE. This meant staying up until 3-4 AM when they were on the west coast, but I wouldn't have missed it.
But, the most important thing is how me makes me feel not only when he performs, but when he just talks to fans. He is AMAZING. I feel alive in my heart again.
His love for his family is so very important to me as well. His willingness to show emotion is a sign of a very well adjusted man. We have his Mom to thank for that, I believe.
I will be going to the concert on August 21st in Tampa. However, the friend I am going with is not really into the whole thing. She is just going so I wouldn't have to go alone. But, I was going to go even if I had to go alone. I would not miss it for ANYTHING!
I hope to talk to him either before or after the concert(maybe a little hug). This is my ultimate dream--hope it comes true for me.
I also want to thank all for providing the pictures, videos and great reviews that you post. I love them all. I am so tech challenged as well, and really appreciate all you do.

This thread is a good way to keep us all in touch with the other "Rocker Grandmas". Daughtry's site has a "YAYA" site (young at heart) where the "YaYas" post every day, just to say hi and talk about whatever is going on in their lives. We should try to do that!

I agree, Joyce! But this thread isn't really in the right place, it's in David Cook News / Articles,
it should really be in All About David Cook. Should I start a new thread over there for us?

Hey, we've all been rockers for a long time! We know true talent when we see it!
I'm glad you're going to see him, I'm looking forward to more reports on the concerts! He isn't coming to Colorado and I'm going to miss it.
Yeah, me too, not really aware of Switchfoot or Collective Soul before now. David has definitely expanded my musical horizons.

When I first started this topic I thought I would be the only person here. I'm soooooooooooooo surprised and excited that it is growing fast and new grandmas are sharing their stories.
Unfortunately, the LA AI Tour sold out of DC T-shirts. But I didn't know about the bracelets. I NEED TO HAVE ONE!!!!!!!!!!! HELP ME!!!!!! PLEASE!
Grandmajoyce....you mentioned something about numbers for Grandmas....sounded like a good suggestion---can you elaborate?
Wish I had asked for one of those hugs when I got his autograph in LA. Can't wait for DC to have his own tour.
KEEP THIS THREAD ROCKIN' GRANDMAS AND SHOW DC THE LOVE FEST WE ARE HAVING FOR HIM!

Actually, it was me that mentioned the numbers for Grandmas. For a while I was helping Stacy out with the Word Nerd numbers, and I've been keeping the Cook's Cougars numbers also. There are other numbers out there too, I think the cubs have numbers and there are Cookie numbers and Word Hero numbers. I was thinking it might be fun to have Rockin' Grandma numbers too, if the other ladies here are interested!

wow I just went through and re read this whole thread! How freaking awesome is it that DC has such a wide age range of fans!Like I said I am a step grandma and although I am only 31,my health at the best and half the time I feel 90..lol(I need a knee replacement but the docs wont do it cause I am too young,so i am in miserable pain almost 24/7,music helps take my mind off the pain!)
I may be to young to have been a fan of the 60's music. But I have been stuck in the 80's music(mostly Bon Jovi)but DC has helped open my eyes to knew music!
I wrote this as a blog for my myspace but I am gonna share it here too!
WHY I AM HOOKED ON COOK
Well first I have to admit I am not really a fan of American Idol,it's a kool show, but I like to see artist do their music, but it was pretty kool how David changed the feel of the songs up to make them more suited to his style!
Secondly I have something else to admit I am a huge Bon Jovi fan and have been for 19 years and up untill I discovered David Cook NO other artist has ever captured my attenion, stole my heart and always leaves me wanting more!
I have my best friend to thank for becoming a fan.She is a big American Idol fan and she kept trying to get me to watch the show going on and on about David C. and how I had to see/hear him.It took me untill the last two shows to finally listen to her.So I watched and was like wow, great voice, very easy on the eyes, but wasn't sold just yet cause I wonder what he could do for orginal music. So I went on an internet hunt and discovered a little album called Analog Heart, that sealed the deal for me!
I never thought I would be amazed and memorized with another artist but David C,just totally blows by mind! His voice brings tears to my eyes it so beautiful. His lyrics are witty, brillant, genuie and heartfelt and uplifting.Watching him perform is amazing his passion and love of music is very evident as well is his love, respect and apperication for his fans!
David C. is an amazing artist and even more amazing person,he is down to earth, intellgent, honset, modest, caring, charming, handsome, and at times goofy or as I like to say, cause this man has left me speechless more times then I count and the word that keeps poping in my head is amazing, yep to me that is the perfect word for David!
So that is my little story of how I become a Cookie fan and why I will forever be hopelessly but happily hooked on Cook!Looking forward to his new album and more AMAZING things from him and having the Time Of My Life watching his career unfold in front of my very eyes!Rock on Peeps!

"Amazing" is always the word I use to describe him, too! My niece watched my granddaughters for me and my daughter when we went to the AI concert here in Vegas. My niece told me Archie was her favorite contestant and said that DC just sounded like every other rocker out there!!! All I could say was "no way, I don't think so"!!! I was thinking that wouldn't work because the list should be the first post in the thread, but I just noticed that I have the second post, so that's almost as good. You want the list on the first page where people can find it easily, not somewhere in the middle of 30 pages of posts.

JENNEY.......is that a good thing or a bad thing to move this thread? It's been so successful in finding Grandmas for Cook where it is.... But, I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to Forums, so please make the best decision for all the grandmas out there who want to rock and roll with DC's career.
Have you thought about managing the numbers (again, not too clear about it, but will follow your lead). Don't forget, I'd like a number.
That Cookie Bot keeps popping up....are you sure it's not a grandma bot...LOL
Thanks Jenney
