David Cook > American Idol Archive > 2008 American Idols Live Tour
mandy30
I've been reading about etiquette on here lately. (which i totally agree with). However, today I had to go up to the venue box office because there was a mistake on my tickets (they sent me tickets for the wrong event and I didn't want to deal with it the day of). I also asked the teller if that's where I would go to pick up my backstage pass or if there would be a different location for that. Well, a lady behind me heard backstage pass and American Idol and proceeded to grill be for 10 minutes while the ticket teller went to go find out the answer to my quesiton. It was really annoying and when I was leaving, she grabbed my sleeve (and she wouldn't let go) and practically begged me to tell her how I got passes. She also threatened to steal them because she heard me tell the teller what my name was. Then for about 5 more minutes she went on to the ticket teller on why I got passes and she couldn't get them. My request is, lets be respectful to those who are lucky enough to get backstage, meet and greet or after show passes. Let's not be rude or disrespectful to them. This is just something that's been bugging me since I got home.

On a side note only 7 days till I get to see them live! smile.gif

That is horrible! I want backstage passes too but I don't think I'd ever treat people that way. You should be happy for the people that got backstage passes because this might be people's first times doing something special like this. Congrats!
Pam08
Congrats on getting your backstage pass! smile.gif It's so sad and pathetic that some folks have to be so greedy and jealous.
MellyBelly
It's a shame that someone basically harassed you like that. sad.gif
You're going to have a great time at your show though! wink.gif
KatieUrbs
Are you serious?
How messed up is that?
Some people...
Cookie Lovin'
Wow. Some people, I swear.

But yay for you! You got backstage passes! We will need some details in about 8 days! tongue.gif

I had something similar happen to me at a Smashing Pumpkins concert in St. Louis. After the concert everyone with an aftershow pass goes to the stage entrance and lines up and goes backstage. After the bouncer checks your pass you are allowed through. Well, this girl (she was about 16) grabbed onto my arm and wouldn't let go of me and kept telling the bouncer "I'm with her! I'm with her!" The bouncer almost kicked us BOTH out! It was a nightmare. I had a really hard time getting him to believe that I didn't know her. People get really crazy about this stuff. I don't mind people asking a simple question of how the passes were obtained (I know the band... lol), but when it gets physical, you've crossed a line. It's silly.
annie702
congrats on landing backstage passes! please say hi to david for us smile.gif

mandy30: Congratulations on getting backstage passes. Enjoy the performance and please report back afterwards about your experience.

Have a great time.

congrats on the backstage pass but I am so sorry that you got treated like that. Thats an utter shame!!!

That is certainly disturbing. I have met fans like that, though, and I can't figure out how anyone can go so far over the edge to act that way.

This will probably sound corny, but I always try to conduct myself in a manner so that it will be a good reflection of the artist whose music I'm supporting. I don't want my behavior to make others say that so and so's fans are nutcases, selfish, rude, horrible, etc. I want them to say, "Gee.....so and so has some really great fans."

Your confrontation had my jaw dropped the entire time I was reading it....I cannot believe the audacity! You didn't explain how you handled yourself though. You must have incredible will power b/c I sure don't. #1: You said she grilled you for 10 minutes on how to get them....I would have either ignored her, told her to mind her damn business- Or told her wrong information!! haha! #2: Unless the teller didn't hear what was going on, I would have said something so they are aware there is a psycho stalking your backstage passes!!!! #3: Instinctively for me, you cannot touch me unless I say so. I would have contemplated harassment charges against that woman! I'm serious! She had no right to touch you...I'm sorry- grab you. Please tell us how you handled yourself with her- I'm dying to know!

It was so weird. At first I thought she was just genuinely curious because we all are. So I explained to her that a friend of mine knows someone on the tour and they got them. I also gave her the waiting by the tour bus tip. But then she went on about could I get her passes. I said no I couldn't because my friends contact could only get us two passes. She asked if I'd be willing to sell my pass. I said no. She offered me $100. I turned her down. She offered me $150. I told her no again. She told me she'd do anything to meet DC and to name my price. This exchange of her begging me went on for about 10 minutes. The teller had left the window to go ask her supervisor if there would be a special area to pick up passes during this time (she was about 16 or 17).

Then when I went to leave the woman grabbed my sleeve and actually was grasping it in her fist. She then said she would give me $500. At this point I was shocked and a little freaked out that I really didn't know what to do. I told her that I was sorry, but no. She then told me she knew my name and heard me say it to the teller and that she could make a fake ID. I was just so freaked out by this that I really didn't know what to do. So I just walked away. (Now that I think about it, I would have said something to the teller or asked her to call security, but I think I was just so stunned my mind went blank.) As I was walking out I heard the lady ask the teller if she could buy passes and the teller told her no. She then told the teller it wasn't fair that "some little b**ch got passes but she couldn't and that she felt that she should get a discount on her AI ticket because of that.

Weird encounter. I ended up telling my mother whose a lawyer and she called the venue to make sure that they knew who I really was and that they gave my pass to me. (it was actually funny. My mom made fun of me saying she still needed to take care of her 24 year old daughter lol)

OMG Mandy. I can't believe there are people like that out there. It is scary. She is probably the kind we hear about in the news that stalk celebrities. You handled a bizarre situation with poise.

I'm so happy for you. Have fun at the concert and enjoy your close encounter with David.

Thanks. I think I was more stunned and weirded out. I didn't think I'd ever encounter something like that.

I'm so excited to even be in the presence of David it's ridiculous. I actually made my boyfriend drive us an hour away to this really good mall to get an outfit. lol. I hope to be able to come back with lots of great pictures.

I agree with all the previous comments- congrat's that you have passes, have a great time and return to this site with info. for all of the rest of us.

I especially agree with the concern expressed re: What If this maniacal "fan" (???) actually was able to get close to any of the Idol group? If she felt entitled to grab onto you, imagine what she might do to one of them! It just struck me that Jason actually complained about a "fan" encounter that he experienced, which involved some inappropriate touching. As much as security measures frustrate us normal (? tee hee) folks, thank goodness for it!

Scary!!

ITA!! If she felt the right to do that to me (and I got a feeling she'll do the same thing to other fans who have passes she wants) then DC better watch out. I didn't hear about the Jason fan encounter. But doesn't surprise me that someone would feel entitled to do something like that.

Again: Jaw to the floor! I am so sorry about your encounter! I will reiterate: Let's hope that crazy b*tch DOES NOT ger her chance to meet ANY of the Idols. She is the kind to ruin things for the rest of us. OMG. I am still in disbelief. I'm so happy for you that you have the passes- be sure to update us all after you show with pictures & everything! Oh--and watch your back!! If you happen to see her again, I pray your mind doesn't go blank & you alert security of that psycho amongst you!

ouch, this touches a raw nerve. Someone I thought would be happy for me winning passes was, let's be nice and say 'unenthusiastic' and then I come back from meeting him and instead of asking me how it was ignored me and has be mean to me. It's been a week as of tomorrow and she's still being very mean. So I've retreated into David's music and I still haven't surfaced. so, just to let you know, it hurts when someone meets David and your to jealous to care.

DC MyGuitar Hero -
I am so sorry that a "friend" of yours is treating you this way. Obviously the girl is jealous and someday I hope she realizes what a mistake she has made by this incident being mean to you.

You certainly do not deserve that.

I am glad that you had a wonderful experience meeting David, this is a wonderful memory that you will have for a long time.

Your friend on the other hand, I hope she comes to her senses, if not maybe the friendship is not worth it.

Take good care,

Can't everyone just grow up. Be nice to your fellow fans! Don't bother the childish people out there. Go have a good time and forget about it. Remember why you went there in the first place. I can't wait to go and have myself a good time wink.gif

There's a lot of nutty people out there. Ugh.

Mandy, is your future sister-in-law upset that your friend was able to get you passes for free, but she had to buy them for $700? laugh.gif

Have a good time at the show and with all the Idols afterwards! If you see that girl anywhere in the vicinity, call security, stat!

Unfortunately that's so very true! I've never experienced anything like what you did, Mandy. I hope you have a wonderful time and that that nutcase doesn't somehow finagle her way backstage. I think you handled it brilliantly, I hope I would've had half the class you had in the encounter. I think if I'd overheard her call me a "little b*tch" I might have had to hurt her. LOL! (And that would've been the epitome of a bad David fan!!!) You did really well!!!

DC's my Guitar Hero - your friend is jealous of you. If the friendship's worth it to you, talk it over with her and tell her how she's making you feel. I hope she learns to deal better with her friends in the future, life's always about chances and opportunities and life's not always fair to everyone. She'd do well to get that lesson learned or she'll find herself losing all of her friends if she treats them the way she's treating you.
Cathe
I feel for you that this woman was so aggressive.

Regarding asking you how you were able to get the backstage passes I would like to know too. Only because there are things to learn that some people don't like to tell. I had a girlfriend who upgraded her tickets or went to the ticket office the day of the event and was able to buy tickets even though it was "sold out". Share with me this info, I would with you.

I agree! It's natural for her to feel jealous( a lot people still need to learn to deal with that emotion). While I wish that I could get passes too, I'm still happy and excited when other people get them. If your friend is a real friend, I think she will come around. If not, she might not be worth the effort.

yeah, the friendship is worth keeping, this person has been my best friend for quite awhile. Things will go back to normal but I'll never be able to really share this experience with her. but who knows? maybe she'll come around. Thanks for caring guys I really appreciate it,

Its sad hearing how pushy some fans can be. That really isn't the way to behave to be able to get the chance to meet the idols. Sure any fan would want that chance but it isn't right to act out the way that lady did. Sometimes people can get really "ugly". I'm glad you made it out of that incident okay, Mandy. Definitely scary sounding.

DC's my Guitar Hero, its understandable, to a certain extent, that your friend is jealous, but she needs to rise above this. It probably would take a little bit of time but since you're best friends, see if you can broach the subject of why she's feeling the way she is and take it from there. Good luck.

Wow. That woman sounds crazy and desperate. I'm sorry you had to deal with her! I don't think I would have had your strength especially when she grabbed you. Yikes! blink.gif

You must be going to the Detroit show! I'll be there too! I hope I don't run into this lady, if she decides to wait back by the buses. laugh.gif

My friend and I stood in line right next to a family who all had these wonderful "Team Carly" green t-shirts on; Carly apparently spotted them from the bus and they were able to speak to her over the fence at the Tacoma Dome after the buses arrived. She arranged for backstage passes for the whole family to reward them for their support. One of the gals in the family contacted me after I posted Idol/Carly vids and the Bus vid up on and via youtube, and told me about it later on.

The Idols really do want to see their fans showing support, so don't be shy!! And don't be a jerk and try to think you're taking away someone else's joy, jeez, this episode with the $500 offer and the fake id just about frosts my blinko completely.

Sometimes I fell like Im preaching... being agnostic I dont feel I belong to any religion (or so I think so) but I do believe in the power of love and reciprocity. There is something called the law of attraction and I think that although you Mandy and DC's My Guitar Hero have being treated with less than kindness you have reacted the best you could, seeking kindness in this forum and in your love ones and giving it back. Either if it is supporting DC with kind words, going to the concert or just wishing him well, or by way of sharing your experiences you build up on the fabric of love.

Human nature is often times bizarre, and we let our lesser passion get a hold on us. But you have reacted respectfully to both persons that mistreated you, and that is what makes you both special. I just want to give you both a big big hug, even if it comes on a digital from LOL, so...
