I do have another question: does anyone know how much it would cost me to take a cab from the airport to my hotel? Can anyone recommend a company that has cheap rates? Should I set this up ahead of time? Oy! I'm so used to there being plenty of cabs in Chicago and you never have to call ahead (they also have flat rates into the city). Not sure what it'll be like in KC.
Call your hotel directly (not the 800#) and ask them for a car service recommendation. They will be able to provide the name of a reputable (and safe) service and should be able to tell you how it compares to taxi fare.
I travel regularly for business, and I've picked up this tip for personal travel, too. Call ahead to make all of your reservations. I did this in Glendale, and I actually ended up getting the hotel's discounted rate by mentioning the name of the concierge at the hotel who referred me.
I was going to be doing the same in KC, but we'll now need a car b/c of the American Cancer Society benefit event at the P&L on Saturday (lots to do when we hit the ground on Thursday!).
Question about the hotels for locals: Hilton President maps out as closest to Sprint Center. But it's not? Marriott maps out as though it's farthest away. Which hotel is kinda in the middle between P&L and Sprint Center? Thanks for any info!

Just an FYI, there is an Airport Shuttle from KC Airport to the major hotels, depending on which hotel you are staying with you can contact the front desk for information or check out this website.
http://www.kctg.com/shuttle_downtown.html It would be lots cheaper than a cab.

Thanks, BLake! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out with your event.
In the event that the car service/cab is too expensive, I'll check out the shuttle that Bratz recommended. Thanks, everyone!

Blake, I had to look up the Hilton President because I had no idea the old President Hotel had become a Hilton! But then, I live here so I don't stay at the local hotels much.

Anywho, it's a straight shot west of the Sprint Center about 4 blocks. The Marriott is only another block further west but also another block north, on 12th. The Phillips (where Stacey is staying) is also on 12th, about 1/2 block closer to the arena. Really, the President, Crowne Plaza, Marriott and Phillips are all 4-5 blocks west of the arena.
There is nothing between the P&L and Sprint Center, Blake, except Grand Street. P&L is directly across Grand from the arena. Or am I misinterpreting your question?
Oh, and I wanna help at the ACS event, Blake. Let me know what I can do!

I definately want to join your team. When I click on Join this Team, I just get options for giving money. What do I click from there?
I am a cancer nurse specialist in KC and I have volunteered to be a part of the Aug 30 ACS event at the Power and Light. Surely, we can meet up there?
Again, to people coming to KC and do not know the city, if you have extra time, the place to go is The Plaza. Beautiful, hip, interesting.

In KC that's where we are at. I've been too busy to think about with work issues, going to the state fair, and anticipation of going to wrestling next weekend. Cool thing is the state fair thing is done met a great singer Jason Jones and got my picture with him and chatted with him for a bit so that was cool. Wait till after next week and I'll be amped up for it.
I so as a joke want to get David to sign the two yearbooks I have with him in them. He looked like such a dork in HS. Although I shouldn't say anything because I was, and still am a dork. He'd probably get a kick out of it and then ask me if I was going to sell them on ebay which I wouldn't because both my yeabooks have my name imprinted on the cover.
Oh also cool thing they were selling like framed 8x10 with two 5X7 photos also with a bio on him on it. It was nifty would have bought it if I had the cash, they only took cash. I just thought it was so weird seeing them sell David Cook stuff at the state fair. He'd probably think that was rather odd, especially since his was right in front of Miley Cyrus and next to Carrie Underwood. If I would have had cash and found two others I like I could have gotten them for 10 dollars each instead of 15 a peice. Oh well.
I bet half the people going to the KC concerts probably aren't even from KC. That's how the Kelly Clarkson/Reba McEntire concert probably about 75 percent of the people on the floor weren't from the area they were from far away cities. It's going to be a long week that week, that's why I'm telling work I going to be out of town all week.

Stacey, I have a long list of things to get done before D-Day...or, DC-Day, really.
Make poster for Sport Your Support challenge
Make sure friend from Iowa can come with me to Sat. show
Get extra 7th row ticket for Fri. show posted up on eBay to raise American Cancer Society funds
Email contact list to troll...uh, politely ask for American Cancer Society funds
Find out why Word Nerd shirt is taking so long to arrive
Stay up far, far, FAR too late every night reading latest concert thread/watching Mavid vids
Watch Olympics hoping to hear TOML again (and squeee with glee when it plays)
Oh yeah...and work!!
As the tour has rolled on, and I read more reports from the front, I just wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I wasn't in the building to hear the roar in the Sprint Center when David hits the stage that first night here. I think it will be deafening!! I just
had to see both nights here, so I broke down and sprung for Fri. night tix too, although I don't have anyone to go with me that night. No problem. I'll be blissed out, I'm sure!

That is a LONG list! My list includes the following:
- Get tickets for both shows (oops!)
- Continue to get donations for the American Cancer Society ( http://main.acsevents.org/goto/staceyhankins_KC )
- Make my Sport Your Support sign
- Book a room somewhere for the night of the 28th
- Figure out what I'm going to pack (liquid regulations are killing me!)
- Get extra batteries and memory cards for my camera
I'm sure there's a lot more I'm not thinking of... haha SO MUCH TO DO!
Don't worry I'll be there (along with like half of d-c.org), so you won't be alone! We'll all go together!

I'm holding out on getting a ticket for the 30th I figure maybe I can get a kickass floor ticket the day of, because usually that's what has been happening with a lot of those concerts.
If I wasn't afraid of strangers I'd let you stay at my house, but I'm afraid of strangers, plus our house is a mess.
Anyhow my sister is probably going to be mad since she is working there and I'm going to drag her there way before she even needs to be at the arena. I'll just tell her it's the only way we'll be able to get a parking spot not so far away.
Liquids you can always get what you need when you get here. In comparison to most places MO is pretty cheap. Just stop by a Walmart on the way to whatever hotel you are staying at. There should be one in Liberty not to far of the Interstate on your way from the airport down to Downtown KC if that's where you are staying at. The KCI, or MCI which is the what they will put on your tags, is kind of North of the city. It's a cool airport, but I've decided not to fly due to the liquid thing and the whole now having to pay for luggage. Screw it I'd rather drive and know where my stuff is at all times and venture out in the world and see this great country we call the United States of America. You never know what interesting things you might see while driving. Anyhow I hope all you out of staters enjoy KCMO, It might not be the coolest place in the world but it's an interesting place every now and then.

It is official- David is donating 4 tickets and 4 After show party passes to the Sport your Support Kansas City Challenge. The top 2 fundraising teams in Kansas City will each receive 2 tickets to the 8/30 concert and 2 After Show Party Passes. The teams must be present at the Cook Fans Conquering Cancer event sponsored by DC.org. This event will be from 3pm-5pm in the Power and Light District across from the venue. To be fair we are still allowing teams form other cities that are attending the KC concert to use the money they have already raised to count in this contest. FYI- David's publicist said that David is proud of us, and he and his team are quite impressed and grateful for all we are doing. She said this means a lot to him.

Luvs Crumbs, Stacey's right. If you check sesot's post earlier in this thread, she says the American Cancer Society event is at the P&L on Sat. the 30th from 3-5. And there's some pretty kickin' prizes on offer!
Oh, and I bet all Word Nerds who enjoy beer would looooove the Flying Saucer as it's a pretty chill sorta place. Most days, they open the windows and it makes the place all open air.

For signs, I would suggest mailing them to your hotels. If that is an issue, we can see if we can send it to the place we're sending our merchandise and stuff. BUT PLEASE chat with your hotels and see if they can accept it for you. Better shipped than left at the airports?
BTW, HOW did you get foam board into the arena? B/c I called Duluth yesterday (for the sign that I had for Team Singapore out by the buses pre-show) and they said I couldn't bring mine in.
Hmmmm . . . might have to send it to KC for Team Singapore's fun. *off to investigate shipping yet another box to KC*
Edit: for those who were confused and PM'ed mods, the sign was all in good fun. I made the sign to represent Team Singapore to get them involved in the concert excitement. I even had a picture of the team captain so that he could say he 'met' David. The sign was never going to be entered into the contest. In fact, for those who have seen the sign, it actually spoke about *all* of your efforts: 54 days, 20 regional teams, 56 individual fundraisers, 300+ donors, and a map of the world with a star where each of you is located.
No worries. The sign will stay at home. For me to enjoy.

Glena, here's the BEST part about the event (ok, well, not the absolute best, but you get my drift

).
The P&L is directly across the street from the Sprint Center. I'd love it if David told you all to come across the street to support his friend, Nick.
Remember, you have to be present to win any of the autographed merch or the 2 tix & after show-party passes to the top two fundraisers. It's going to be so great. Media is really starting to roll in KC, thanks to our lone man on the ground there -- and our PR guru here on D-C.org. Woohoo!

Man after reading about all of this I really want to go...I feel that participating is a must since I'm a DC fan...kinda disappointed but financially it won't happen...((needs a cheaper flight and a hotel room...D:!))
But anyways, I don't want to give up on participating at all...so I was wondering if there's any specific fundraiser for this event I could drop $100 into. Anyone out there could point me in the right direction? Thank you~! ;3;!!

Hi, DLGR. While we'd love to have as many David Cook fans and D-C.org-ers there as possible, we definitely want everyone to be fiscally responsible!
How thoughtful of you to want to support the cause.
Here is the Kansas City Cook Fans Unite2Fight team page. You can donate to an individual on this team by clicking their name -- or you can make a general donation to the Kansas City effort by clicking the button immediately above the thermometer.
Hope that helps. And thank you so much for your interest and support.
We hope to provide updates from KC to all of you so that you can hear all about the goings-on! Be sure to stop by this forum to check it out!

Hey fellow DC fans! I've been registered and lurking for a long time, but this is my first post.
I'm flying from the East Coast to Kansas City to see the show and to visit with family and friends. Hopefully I can meet up with some of y'all while I'm there!
Are any of you - or any people you know - still looking for tickets to the 8/29 show? I bought a whole bunch of tix for family and friends, and it turns out that we're not using all of them.
I'm trying to sell the following tix and wanted to give first crack to my fellow Word Nerds. Please send me a message if you're interested in the following:
Friday, August 29
* Floor 4, Row 7, Seats 4 & 5 - $165 total
* Section 104, Row 5, Seats 7 & 8 = $140 total
There's a 50/50 chance I'll also need to sell the following for the Saturday night show. I'll find out in the next day or two if I definitely need to sell them. Once I've confirmed my schedule, I'll let you know for sure if I'll be selling them.
* Floor 4, Row 17, Seats 1, 2, 3, & 4 = $267.50 total
Thanks for your help!
Look forward to meeting so many of you!!!!
Karen.
