That song title sounds very familiar to me. I was downloading a bunch of music last night and visiting music sites on myspace (David connections). I could swear "Not Me" was on someone's playlist, but I can't remember who.
I can't get on myspace at work but if someone wants to do some searching... I think it was one of the MWK connections. I like to follow the friends trail. I was looking at Bryan and Zac. I don't remember if I found Neal. If nothing turns up by the time I get home I'll check.
Or maybe I was having some kind of premonition....???

And with the Tulsa address couldn’t it been something they have done before idol ?

Funny, I posed this question, in another thread in this subforum, that we might learn what songs are on the new album by checking ASCAP. I wouldn't assume this will be the first single though... it could be a song on the album but not necessarily a single, nor the very next single to be released. But there's a good chance it is!
EDIT:
Ok I checked ASCAP and this is a new entry. No other performer has been registered, and there's no reference to MWK or Andy Skib as performers. I think this
could be the new single! David is amazing. Neal gave David a big break when he moved to Tulsa and invited him to join MWK. David is returning the favor ten-fold. But it's more than just loyalty... Neal is so talented, he's was surely David's first choice period. But loyalty most likely comes into play in the way David got Neal on board with 19E/RCA. David Cook is a force to be reckoned with. I've heard and read from more than one source that he's quite "insistant" when it comes to getting his way artistically.

Here is something I learned from last year, just because song is registered on ASCAP doesn't necessarily mean it will even make it to the album. It just so happened that Crush was Archie's first single. Blake Lewis had about 4 or 5 songs registered at ASCAP and I think 2 of them didn't make it to his CD but in the case with David, you never know.
Well, this certainly has me intrigued! Looking forward to finding out more.

Oddly enough, "not me" is the chorus lyric for Makeover off of Analog Heart. Do you think they might have reworked it and renamed it? Hmmmm

I doubt this is anything but an old song that they did together for MWK. The publisher is a place from Tulsa. This leads me to believe that it won't even be on this album. Just a register of a previous song for future protection. Don't get excited.

"Makeover" would be the one song that I would love to see on the new album. It's my fav on Analog Heart! I believe he said though that there is at least one song that is being pulled off the old album, and maybe reworked a bit? Or that seemed to fit? I was assuming he was talking about his last unreleased album?

This song does not have David down as co-writer. I can't imagine his first single off the album would be a song he didn't write.

David wrote the music and lyrics of every song on Analog Heart. He is a true musician, a poet, a talented composer, and a master arranger. AH was just an appetizer. His main course is yet to come!
Oh, and ewolf.girl, I agree about Makeover. It remains my favorite AH song, and is truly one of my favorite songs period. I think it's haunting. While I love it in it's raw state, and do find it to be one of the more "produced" songs on the album, I can only imagine what Hollywood engineers and Rob Cavallo's input could do for that song!!

"Time of my life” and “Im alive” have a licences from SESAC.

WOW! Thanks for the additional information, Scott!! I am so excited for the new album I can hardly stand it!!
I met David on Monday (YES!
OMG!!! Check out my post in the concert thread for story & pics!) and after I complimented him on Analog Heart, he said, "wait until you hear the new album!"
Gosh, I am fired up! The anticipation is just killing us, though!!
Also...to Cookie3802, I asked David if he was putting Optimistic to a Fault on the new album and he said no, but one of his old songs will probably make it onto there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, not yet.

Right now it seems that David is putting more focus on the record than an actual single. He said in one of the interviews in KC today that they are still shooting for a mid-November release for the record and he said assuming he gets all the work done by that time.

Question answered!!! Zoo (Jeannine), WorkingGirl and I saw Neal and Andy Skib (To Have Heroes) perform at a club in Santa Monica last night and then spent the evening having a couple of beers with them. See thread in Other Stuff about the show-pictures to come later today, and in All About David for some things I learned about David and the album (ALL great news).
I asked Neal directly about "Not Me" being licensed with ASCAP and David listed as the performer. Simple answer. It's among the "possible" songs on the album. Neal had already written it, and David wanted to submit it along with the 50 songs he talks about being submitted. It was accepted right away (like someone already said, Neal is a very talented songwriter). It's one of the few (maybe the only one) David didn't write or co-write. It's NOT "Makeover" and that lyric is just a coincidence. Neal says that although it was accepted right away for submission, it has not been selected for the album yet. I don't remember if he said that they even recorded it... so it may be among the 20 songs recorded or not. Neal is a member of ASCAP and when he pens a song he registers it right away. In this case, it's a potential song for David so David is listed as the performer. So that's why it's registered before the other songs... not because it's going to be the next single, but because Neal took the initiative to register it.

This is going to be a real band... not some studio session muscians thrown together for a pop star. David is the frontman and will be the chief songwriter. But Neal on guitar (he's a whiz) will gain huge notoriety as a talented band member and David's right hand man. I am sure Neal will pen some of the songs, and certainly co-write with David. And David will write many songs himself. Bottom line, this will be a wonderful collaboration and will protect David. When you come out of Idol and do that solo Pop Star thing you're very vulnerable. I even think Archie is vulnerable to some extent because pop stars are more likely to become flavors of the month (or year) and have so many things done for them (songwriting, arrangements, producing). Rock bands with bandmates that get along and collaborate together have longevity. And they build loyal fan bases. David was smart to form a band. It doesn't need a name. But it's a band and they will have each others back. Every aspect of how this is coming together for David is, IMO, perfect.
