I keep hearing that some people think they have tix for a certain row and then they get there and the seats are actually closer because of the configuration. Is this with all venues?? Going to my first show tomorrow tonight so I'm clueless. I have floor seats on the left side.

I think your best bet is to get a seating chart -- you can go up on ticketmaster for your show and there's usually a seating chart.

I had seats in floor row 3, seat 16 which was on the outside aisle. But because of the stage apron, there were really only about 5 seats in that row. I ended up standing at the rail on the inside edge of that row. So it felt like I was in the first row on the side.

Some seats in the lower sections were close enough for them to shake hands from the railing.
