In case you didn't see in our big announcement thread, we met our fundraising goal for the American Cancer Society. Here is the other big news!
We have been working with the Kansas City American Cancer Society to plan Cook Fans Unite to Fight, a fun event at the Power & Light District on 8/30/08 from 11-2 pm. It will be a fun carnival type atmosphere with activities and challenges like Don’t Forget the Lyrics/Name that Tune (all focused around David Cook & AI), a David Cook and AI trivia contest, AI twister (you HAVE to come and play this!), and other fun activities.
In addition the local American Cancer Society chapter will be there with early detection and cancer prevention information and possibly free breat cancer screenings. We will also have a raffle – or at least Kansas City’s version of a raffle (long story – we know y’all are tired of us being the ‘legal’ police with all of this American Cancer Society benefit stuff, so we’ll save you the back-story on the Missouri laws around raffles!).
Let me think if that is it. Hmmm, Oh wait, I forgot the most important part-
David knows about this event, and although he can’t be there in person (prior schedule obligation and we completely understand – please let’s focus on the positive!), he asked us to move forward with this event and he has personally donated a very special prize for this event….
• Out of all the choices, we gave David and his management for this event, the one that caught his attention was the Sport your Support Challenge.
• David is personally donating 4 tickets and 4 meet and greet passes (may be after party - not sure).
• He is also going to autograph a few other items for the “raffle” or for us to auction off.
• The 4 tickets and passes will go to the top fundraising team(s) in Kansas City in the Sport your Support Challenge.
o We will probably have 2 winners (2 tickets and passes each) so the top 2 fundraising teams can win.
• David said he promises to sign their sign and take a photo with them and their sign, so they can earn the bonus points in the contest.
David is a very generous and kindhearted man, and we are so thankful for his consideration. He is now officially aware of all the different American Cancer Society projects we have been working on at DC.org in his honor. He is very sorry he can’t be at the event but wanted to contribute in some way. I had a great conversation with one of his peeps, they were very interested in all you are doing.
A new Kansas City team has been set up off of our overall Cook Fans Conquering Cancer team: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/unite2fight
• To be eligible for the generous gift from David, you can form a sub-team under the Kansas City team.
• Your subteam will keep track of donations you raise online.
• Remember you can also collect cash donations and either deposit in bank and then charge that amount online, or get a cashiers check made out to the American Cancer Society and bring to the Cook Fans Unite to Fight event on 8/30/08.
• Don’t forget about corporate matching, they can also be added to your total.
If you are going to a KC concert- then come join us at Cook Fans Unite To Fight and take the challenge to see if you can win tickets from David himself!
Let’s continue to make David proud and see if we can raise $26,000 by his 26th birthday. We can do it DC.org, look what we accomplished in only 37 days.
