From ET Online:http://www.etonline.com/news/2008/08/64157/index.html"American Idol" winner David Cook is continuing to enjoy the perks his big win brings -- he threw out the first pitch today at a New York Mets game.
"I'm a huge sports fan, a big baseball fan and so to be able to do anything like this is always really cool," Cook, who was sporting a beard, said of the experience.
David Cook was invited to Shea Stadium by Mets third baseman David Wright, who founded the David Wright Foundation. Cook said, "David [Wright] actually reached out to me towards the end of the ["American Idol"] season, really wanted to try to help out to get my older brother out to the finale and stuff, really reached out and he was cool, and then reached out very recently to invite me out today."
Cook's older brother has been battling a brain tumor.

See All: celebs David Cook
And another interesting tidbit: David Cook & David Wright were born on exactly the same day: Dec. 20, 1982

David Wright's foundation mission has changed, it is now all about kids. It is: THE MISSION OF THE DAVID WRIGHT FOUNDATION IS TO PROVIDE AID AND ASSISTANCE TOWARD THE HEALTH, EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN IN NEED. THROUGH PROGRAMS AND ANNUAL EVENTS, THE DWF STRIVES TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR CHILDREN OF THE NEW YORK TRI-STATE, AND NORFOLK, VA METRO AREAS.
I'm from NYC so I know they do tons of cool stuff like give 30 tickets,t-shirt and Mets money to every Mets home game, a bowling event for 200 kids from Charities, a baseball clinic with David and coaches on the field at Shea for 75 kids from charities, and they are starting libraries at city hospital ( for kids that might not be able to afford the stuff to bring) of gameboys, PSPs, DVD/CD players, Ipods and tons of games, movies and stuff. He and Cookie are both awesome ( and super cute). They also started a scholarship at Virginia Tech for one student for four years fover... and I read they do it ALL for free and rely on donations and a gala in November 13th this yr in NYC, rumor is Cookie might play this year so we gotta buy, buy, buy and donate!!!!
I also read they are making a new super cool website that will be up in a couple of weeks (I'm sure with pictures of our Cookie) www.davidwright.com and you can donate on there and see if Cookie will be at the gala so we can buy tickets.
We should support a great guy that supports Cookie!
