'Idol' winner David Cook announces album release date

Blue Springs, MO — David Cook fans only have a few more months to wait.

The “American Idol” winner told The Examiner he anticipates his first CD since will be released in November.

“I’ve been able to do some great co-writes,” Cook said in a phone interview. “It’s been fun.”

Cook gained a lot of fans on the show by putting his own spin on popular songs like Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.” His singles from the show also broke Billboard chart records for the number of hit singles (11) by one artist at a time.

That includes his first single, “The Time of Life,” which he sang after being crowned the winner. “The Time of My Life” had 944,000 downloads in the first week and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 100 charts. It also debuted at No. 1 the Hot Digital Songs and the Hot Digital-Tracks charts.

But fans shouldn’t expect to see those songs that led him to the finish line on the new album.

“I’ve spent the last year of my life singing other people’s songs,” Cook said. “At this stage it’s not looking too promising (having his performances from the show on his album). I definitely want to progress past that and be an artist.”

Cook, 25, is working with producer Rob Cavallo on his album. Cavallo has worked with artists such as Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Kid Rock, Goo Goo Dolls and Dave Matthews Band.

According to Billboard.com, Cook has, so far, collaborated with Collective Soul’s Ed Roland, Our Lady Peace’s, Raine Maida and others. His album will be released through 19 Recordings/RCA Records.

Currently, Cook is on tour with the top 10 contestants from the show.

Cook -- a Missouri native -- and his brother Andrew will sing the National Anthem at the Kansas City Chiefs home opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 14. Then, he’ll head back to Los Angeles to finish his album, he said.

“I’m looking to maybe get a little bit of downtime around Christmas,” Cook said. “I’m scheduled pretty much through the end of the year.”

Once his album is out, and after the start of the new year, Cook said he’ll begin touring with his album.

That article was all kinds of awesome! Thanks for posting it!

Wow, downtime in December for David. How does he do it? How many ways can we thank this man? I'm especially excited for the start of his tour. November can't come soon enough!

I hadn't heard that both David and Andrew will be singing the national anthem, that's awesome too!

Come on November! Thanks Pam!

Annette,

I was having some awful server problems yesterday but it's a bit better today. smile.gif

I must add one more thing. Oh the paranoia at mj's blog about DC's next single! Let me show you this idiotic post there in the sales thread:

The paranoiac in me has this fear that TOML’s incomprehensible resiliency will make it go on to be Cook’s biggest single and it will become his signature song. And then a few years from now, when he’s touring nostalgically, he’ll be forced to close his show with it. In fact, it will be his encore.

* “Wait, why is Cook doing Always Be My Baby already? I thought that would be his encore.”

“Nope, it’s Time Of My Life”

“The rainbow song?”

“Yeah, the audiences go crazy for it. He still burns up adult contemporary with that tune….” *

Sooo, on that fretful note, DC, can we please have some DEFINITIVE info about a single and album release. Please?

Some people need to calm down and CHILL about this seriously! He will get another single, that is a definite, we just don't know when it will be released. There was another stupid post over there regarding the single but I thought this one was post worthy. laugh.gif

What irritates me is that some people have seen the recaps from the shows talking about DC being slightly under the weather this week and they are being so obnoxious and demanding about the single and apparently don't give a rip about his health and well being! angry.gif

Thanks for posting that Pam! It was a great read! And yay November!!!

It'll be here sooner then we think!

And besides, the buildup to an album release is a LOT of fun. smile.gif

Maybe they just really, really hate that song.

As far as the album release goes, every single article and press release states that it will be November so there's no reason to think the album won't be out then.

My eyes got really wide seeing the title of your thread, Pam. laugh.gif Then I read your disclaimer. Thanks for putting that right on top. You know us well. laugh.gif

CHILL is right, David will not be forced to do anything -- he will do whatever feels right and makes sense for him on his tour. And that may mean playing TOML on tour because he CHOOSES to, there's nothing wrong with that, there are a lot of people who like that song and playing it on tour will actually help boost its sales.

November can not come fast enough for me---I'm like needing MORE David Cook! It's like I want more Cowbell! - No I want more Cookie!. It's like Play Me Something New!!! And I sooooo appreciate that he is taking time to do it the way he wants and laying down tracks that will blow us all away--I love him for that. He could put something out today if he wanted to but he wants it to be good. Can't wait. Crisp cool Fall air, Thanksgiving upon us and the smell of apple cider, pumpkins, DAVID COOK's NEW CD!!!!!!! This is great, great news!

I thought I had read somewhere (it all starts to blur together after a while laugh.gif ) that only the single was coming out in November and the CD was slated for release in January.

Soooo ... the CD coming out in November makes me very happy. SO looking forward to new music!!!

Suze - no November is consistant. Thank God.

If both Davids release their album on the same date that is just really stupid marketing tactics.
