David Cook's brother Andrew Cook.

Standing on the stage at the American Idol finale, David Cook hugged is brother Andrew and cried.

"It's all his fault," David said, pointing to Andrew.

Andrew couldn't say much, the whole thing was a bit overwhelming. His brother was a now a bonifide celebrity and was about to get everything that came with it. Hollywood parties, big paychecks, fans and autographs.

Where did David's newfound stardom leave Andrew?

It left him signing autographs for an hour at one of David's shows in St. Louis. It left him partying at the hottest clubs in Los Angeles for his 21st birthday. It left him with his photo in TV Guide.

And, it presented Andrew with a handful of opportunites he's not about to let slip away.

Check out UCM elementary education major Andrew Cook in his own words.

Q: What's life been like for you after David won American Idol?

A: "It's been really amazing. We get noticed a lot more, even my mom and myself. David is still the same guy though, he's just got a higher profile and lots of fans."

Q: What was it like to go up on stage after David won the show?

A: "It was really special. It was cool because my mom and I were there at the beginning with him. Just about one year ago, my mom and I were with him when he auditioned, so, it was the three of us at the beginning and the three of us at the end."

Q: Have you traveled with David since the show?

A" "I've gone to L.A. a couple times, and I went to St. Louis with him just a little while ago. I'm kind of a crier, and when I saw him playing on the stage in St. Louis, I pretty much cried the whole time."

Q: Has the experience been surreal at all?

A: "It hasn't been that weird. I always thought he deserved this. What's really different is that I remember him playing in front of ten people and now he's playing in front of 12,000."

Q: What are some of the best experiences you have had since the audition?

A: "There are three that really stand out. First, I got to go to L.A. on my 21st birthday and we got into all these really cool places in Hollywood."

"Second was the St. Louis show. People there found out who my mom and I were and they started asking for our autographs. We signed autographs for like an hour."

"Third best was just last week. I got to work for the local FOX affiliate interviewing people who were auditioning for the upcoming American Idol. I didn't know this at first, but Ryan Seacrest was there doing his radio show. He found out I was there and wanted to talk to me.

So, I was on his show for about five minutes, and while I was talking to him, there were cameras in the room. I didn't know what they were for, but I ended up being on 'E-News.' The attention is certainly different."

Q: So you have become a bit of a celebrity, too?

A: "My goal is to take the opportunity I have and make the most out of it. I know that my first opportunity comes because of David's hard work. He deserves everything that he has acheived. He's worked so hard for it. I want to do the same."

Cut from the same cloth! Beth you raised amazing boys. I can't even imagine how proud you are. And you should be. I don't have kids, and at this point doesn't look like I will... but if I did David and Andrew are the model sons I would hope to have. So comfortable in their own skin, so centered. I loved this Q&A! Thanks for posting it HoorayDC!

I have to add a comment about this:

I remember the fans on d-c.org posting about their encounters with Andrew and his family in St. Louis, and how gracious and warm they were. Clearly they loved meeting the fans and didn't feel it was an intrusion at all! Andrew lists it as a highlight! This is one amazing family.

The most beautiful part of the article is, "I always thought he deserved this." That says so much, about Andrew and David. You can tell he is thrilled for DC. Genuinely. I am so glad that they have each other. I bet he's proud of himself for getting DC there to audition in the first place, because it would have never occurred to DC to do that.

David was quoted in an interview a couple of months ago saying he loves his brothers more than any other two people in the world. It wasn't like he didn't include his mom... it was in the context of friends and friendships, and he named Andrew and Adam as the two "friends" he's closest to.

David Cook's brother Andrew Cook.

"Second was the St. Louis show. People there found out who my mom and I were and they started asking for our autographs. We signed autographs for like an hour."

I was at the St. Louis show, and during the show, David pointed his mom and brother out in the crowd, and then stated that Andrew is crying, which is apparent when he is shown on the big screen. After the show, Andrew came out with David to sign autographs. He was obviously having the time of his life (Sorry, I couldn't help myself!). I didn't have it in me to fight through the crowd to get closer to David, but I was able to get close enough to overhear a conversation Andrew had with some fans. They asked him how he got his hair to do what it does, and he told them that he washes it and uses gel (can't remember the brand) to get it to spike like it does.

Also wanted to point out that the Central Missouri State Muleskinner newspaper has had other articles about David over the last several months. Finally, my friend who lives in Jeffereson City (Missouri capital) told me that she has seen several Central Missouri State promotional television commercials using David to promote the school. I'm sure he couldn't have imagined that happening in a million years when he went to school there.

If Andrew is talented, there's no good reason why he shouldn't take advantage of David's celebrity. He won't be the first sibling to enjoy success as a result of nepotism. It happens frequently in acting, too. (Barrymore, Redgrave, Baldwin, Sheen, Simpson, etc.) Maybe Andrew will turn up in David's band.

Andrew is sooo much like David and that's definitely a good thing. I was touched by the on-line chat he did with the local KC Fox affiliate when he mentioned how he's always looked up to David, how he has decided that he's going to finish his education, and how he wants the kids he teaches to know that he was there for them, not for a paycheck. I've said this on another board, but I'll say it again. Beth really needs to write a book about raising boys.

Wow! I can't imagine how I melted when I read through the entire article. wub.gif

Having a younger brother as supporting as Andrew is definitely the best thing ever to happen to David. smile.gif

And oh, more of these pics can be found in his Facebook profile.

Awww I'm glad to see the support from Andrew. Momma Cook knows how to raise great kids, that's for sure. David and Andrew are both so awesome biggrin.gif
