OMG!! What the heck?!

OOPS - HOPEFULLY THEY WILL CORRECT THE ERROR.
Lee_K
we should probably e-mail them.
that's just not really cool
StitchMeUp
Yeah, I would say that someone in that news department is getting reamed out right about now!
Jen :)

That's a good idea. I noticed the mistake (even posted it in the thread about Dancing with the Stars here), but didn't even think about contacting them to correct it! D'OH! Sorry...
Pam08
I noticed that. Personally even though they made a big boo boo, I wouldn't email them. I would let David or KC handle that since it after all is his "personal" life. wink.gif

I totally agree with you 100% on this Pam. Christina
Lee_K
as long as the mail is not rude, I really believe they'd appreciate the correction.
CookieAddict_24
Oops! I can't believe Kansas City of all places would make that mistake.
annette
I am sure David's family and I can rest assure that D. probably got many text messages on his IPhone from his peeps in Kansas City regarding this error.

This Kansas City paper needs to get their facts straight. I am sure between David's family (i.e. Andrew), or David or David's on the ground peeps in Kansas City this will be corrected.
Scott
IMO that's their 2nd blunder in less than a week. On Friday they "repurposed" the EOnline Crush "Fan wars" article, albeit sugar coated with some of the apples/oranges aspects highlighted. Local news is so lazy. I should know. I work in it. Don't come down too hard on that station though... they have given David (and Andrew) great coverage, and always positive. The web dept. likely has a few writers that only work on the station's website, and they're often less experienced than TV News writers and reporters (the positive David coverage happens because as a Fox affilliate, they put someone on the AI beat, and they're "cheerleading" the show and their local boy, which is good. But the online staff simply regurgitates stuff and they apparently don't check their facts carefully).
And I just noticed they have a write up, and are likely covering, the cancer benefit d-c.org folks have organized! I think someone SHOULD send them a polite email simply correcting them. It's no secret that DC & KC are together. They've even greeted fans together. It's the right thing to do. Simple email, two lines. They will then check the facts and find out the correct name should be Kimberly Caldwell.

I think you're right, and I almost read this too late. sad.gif I tried sending a message to their Newscast/Story Info section via the Contact Us button. Lucky for me, I forgot to enter a required ZIP code, so it didn't get sent (yet). WHEW!!

I don't think my message overstepped any boundaries, since the fact that he's been dating KC has been in the news (too much, which I also pointed out). Here's what I was going to send. If the consensus is that it's inappropriate, I'll step away. But if you think it's respectful of David while still pointing out (what I see as an egregious) error, then I'll go ahead and send it.

Subject: Error in David Cook/Lacey Schwimmer story

Body: In the following story http://www.myfoxkc.com/myfox/pages/Enterta...mp;pageId=7.5.1, posted in the Entertainment section of your website, I'm afraid you have made a significant error.

Lacey Schwimmer is not David Cook's girlfriend. It's been well publicized (perhaps too much) that he is dating someone else. Your web site and news station has done extremely well in your coverage of David during his time with American Idol, and I would hate for one erroneous story such as this to ruin an otherwise positive reputation, with David, his family and his fans.

Sincerely,

Jen
A concerned fan
Scott
Jen, you posted as I did. You did fine. My station constantly gets calls and emails correcting, offering more info, etc. No biggie. I think they've gotten tipped off enough about this by now, and they'll probably correct it soon.

OK, his personal life isn't so personal that he changed girlfriends without telling anyone right? (Even himself)?

Jen: See what Scott and Pam have to say, but I would think that David's peeps (either Andrew or his friends) on the ground in Kansas City if they saw this they would send in a correction.

I like the message - if Scott or Pam feel it's appropriate then I don't see a problem. I checked the on line for comments and I did not see anything posted yet.

EDIT: Jen, I would go ahead and send it.

Yeah, see that's what I'm concerned about. I agree it's maybe better if one of his family sends a note (or calls), but they may not see it right away (I'm only guessing they don't scour the internet for David stories 24/7 like the people here), and then it would be on the site even longer.

I'm still holding...waiting on Scott and/or Pam's opinion before hitting send.

Honestly, I would be shocked if a local viewer (or several) hasn't contacted the station to correct them by now. Probably no need for out-of-towners to do so!
Jen :)
Thanks annette, and Scott. I did just send it...just in case. The page shows the story as being last edited now at 6:43 pm (8 minutes ago), but nothing had changed on it.

ETA: Maybe they did do something then. The story that Mel linked to is still there, but I don't see a link to in from the MyFoxKC page in their Top TV News anymore (which is where I saw it originally).

http://www.myfoxkc.com/myfox/pages/Enterta...D8?pageId=7.5.2

ETA again: Scott, looks like you were right (again! wink.gif ). The story is not even there anymore now via the link in the OP. Thank Goodness!

Or maybe David changed girlfriends and the station has the inside line!

(just kidding.)

It's fine that you sent it Jen. Come to think of it, if none of his KC peeps saw it yet, and David is still unaware, we could be sparing all involved an awkward moment!
Lee_K
good and nice e-mails are always good reputation for the fans wink.gif
Most people would probably be rude, I guess they appreciate when fans are really nice about their errors.
Scott
The article has been removed. They're probably going to re-post an updated corrected version. They may have responded to Cook family members or local viewers, but if they responded to a fan emails, then I think we did good. We just pointed out the truth and called for accuracy!

BWAH!!! Actually, I had edited my post (again) to add:

FWIW, looks like my email was bounced back from one of the two emails to which the form addresses the comments. It probably made it through to one, though.

ETA (this is becoming a habit!): Scott, you're too fast for me! biggrin.gif

OK. Let's forgive the station for EVERYTHING. Go to this thread (also here in the articles/news forum). The station gave us a huge write-up for the upcoming Cancer benefit. I guess MyFox KC will cover the event this Saturday with a crew (BLake, Sesot and KC fans/organizers, has the station confirmed coverage?)

Oh, I completely agree, Scott. All is forgiven; they took the bad story down, and that's really all that was important to me. Ironically, I first noticed the "bad" story when I had jumped over to read this one from a post in another thread. Thanks for bringing us back around to the good life again! biggrin.gif

I think that's fine...I really see no reason not to email them to correct them...I was just lazy...

I mean, this is certainly not prying into David's personal life. I think sometimes everyone is a little too paranoid (myself included) that something will offend David and his family. It's good to be concerned about that, of course, and I try to make sure I do not do anything to pry into his private life at all. But this is just correcting a mistake that every one of us knows to be false, and like you said, it's well publicized.

ETA: I just read now that you have sent it, and it's taken down, too. Yay! I wonder if they will print a retraction.
