Sorry if this has been posted already, but I just came across it. Good review. Note the last few paragraphs about David. My favorite part: "a Daughtry-like run on the charts is not out of the question for this year's idol."

i can't wait for the day he finally shakes the daughtry comparisons.

EDIT: i do realize that the author meant it as a compliment smile.gif

But they used it as a compliment..
"If Cook is that clever with his own material, a Daughtry-like run on the charts is not out of the question for this year's idol"... I think it's great! smile.gif

That was a pretty good artcile. More intellectual than most. This is from the Ft. Lauderdale/Broward County newspaper, and it was a much better review than the one from that Miami guy! Funny, that's the 2nd Daughtry comparison this week in a review. I expect it. I don't like it, but I think it's natural and in some ways I'm ok with it when a critic says he/she believes David will have that kind of success. 5x platinum on a debut album is nothing to sneeze about!!

I disagree about season 7's talent level. I think it was the best of all. I do agree that a majority of them won't get big music careers out of it, but that's always the case. But potentially we could have 4 success stories... DC, DA, MJ and Carly... and maybe KLC but her sales aren't too promising. At least she's signed with a label. Think about it. 7 seasons, each with a Top 10. That's 70 finalists and you can count on both hands how many have really "made it." In no particular order, and in addition to both Davids (D2!):

1) Carrie Underwood
2) Chris Daughtry
3) Kelly Clarkson
4) Jennifer Hudson
5) Jordin Sparks (yes, I would say she's made it)
5) Elliott Yamin
6) Kelly Pickler
7) Clay Aiken

Very limited success, but still working in music or theater: Taylor Hicks, Fantasia, Blake Lewis (singing with a new label), Phil Stacey, Chris Richardson.

I'm not much on the Daughtry comparisons, either. I know David's music will certainly be different than Daughtry's -- and better. But I think this writer meant it as a compliment to David and not a comparison ... that David will be as successful, if not more, than Chris Daughtry (the only other American Idol "rocker" to have made good so far).

Hey, Scott: What about Bo Bice? Don't you think he has been somewhat successful? I heard one of his songs, "The Real Thing," on the radio the other day, and also hear it from time to time on my digital cable music choice channel. I think you should add him to your list of successful (or semi-successful) Idols.

I am not a fan of his music but Joshua Gracin has seen alot of success in country music. He's not a superstar but I would say with at least 4 number one songs that he has made it.

To me, this is one of these reporters sent out to do something they have little interest in or understanding of. He sounds bored, and he clearly did no research to have a sense of what the different idols mean to their fans. Just bugs me when papers send out these people.
