Full Version: Up Close Video Of Entire Mural Unveiling Event
David Cook > American Idol Archive > 2008 American Idols Live Tour > Kansas City Homecoming Events August 29-30th

I hope no one minds if I start a new thread. I saw the other one but figured most people have read it and would miss the video if I posted there.

I also apologize if someone else has already posted something similar. I glanced at the Fox video just enough to see that I have quite a bit on film that they did not get, and I thought if you haven't already seen the whole thing that you will really enjoy it. I had a great spot for filming.

This mural is about a mile from my house and I will drive by it almost every day. Crazy. Anyhow, it was so great to see David home today soaking up the love from our community. And, like the great guy he is, he really made the effort to make the kids who painted the mural feel special. One thing the Fox video didn't show was the replica of the mural which was gifted to David. He insisted that all the kids autograph it for him and then he took pictures with them. Very thoughtful.

Then instead of making a hasty exit (which would have been understandable on this busy day) he took the initiative to go down the line and greet and sign autographs for all of us who showed up.

From my observations today, David still just really has his head screwed on straight. This is not someone who has let fame go to his head and it was so great to see how appreciative and humble he is. He was patient and kind to everyone and made other people there today feel special. And, that about him impresses me more than about anything else. I'm very proud of our hometown boy.

Oh, and Andrew - that guy is too funny. He and David together are a riot. Andrew was standing right beside me squealing like a girl - Ooooo! It's David Cook!! This was especially funny because he was the ONLY one squealing. The rest of us were quiet and respectful. LOL. So, when David gets to him he turns to him and deadpans, "Hi, I'm David Cook." A few minutes later someone by me asked Andrew if David gave him an autograph and he was like "No! What a jerk!" (or something similar) I wish I had that on video, but I put my camera down when David got close. Sorry!

Enjoy the video. Also feel free to post on other boards or on You Tube.

Thank you SOOOO much for sharing this. You're right, it does deserve it's own thread. It's incredible to see the entire presentation in one flowing video, instead of the bits and pieces we've been able to see on the FoxKC site. *tears* This is just beautiful!
Maureen
I'm not able to get the video. Could someone please explain to me how to get it?

Thank you.

Well I drove home to St. Louis from KC today... and we (My Mom and Brother) decided to take a detour to see if we could find it... and after some very sketchy details from a clerk at the Quik Trip we ended up downtown (which I guess I was really close to your house...lol) made a left hand turn to go to the police station and ask for more detailed directions...and low and behold I turned my head and there the Mural was... I was flabergasted seeing it in person...it is absolutely breathtaking

Took pictures of my brother acting like he was playing the Les Paul...and with my self... it's now the background on my phone... it truly was an amazing weekend... I love Missouri... I love the midwest... we truly now how to show appreciation and love....

2 shows... and a road trip to blue springs... nothing better than that...

I downloaded the file and then it would not open. I have a Mac and I know very little about computers. Is there a way I can change over the name or something to get it to open? I do that with pictures people send me, I have to change them to jpegs. Any nerds out there that can help a little old lady? rolleyes.gif

I have a Mac, too, and it played just fine on my computer. However, I may have something loaded on my computer that is different from what you have. The file extension on the video is .wmv. It's possible that my realplayer handles those. If you don't have realplayer, I recommend it. It's a free download and will download videos for you. There were some files available on the internet that were .avi files and I couldn't get them to play on my Mac so I bought a file converter program that is for the Mac and is just awesome. It's called something like audialHub and visualHub. The 2 combined will convert all kinds of files to what will play on the Mac. I found it by googling 'avi files'. It's cheap enough, about $25 for the combination. And I love the fact that 1) it's SO EASY to use and 2) if you have a video, you can use the audialHub part to pull the song off and turn it into an mp3 file. So, like for David's AI performances, if you can't find just the song somewhere, download the video and use audialHub to convert it to mp3. If you have itunes it will put the file in itunes for you. I used the visualHub to take videos of performances, whether on AI or youtubes of concert stuff, and put them on my ipod as movies, so I can watch the performances anywhere.

Sorry to be so wordy, but I am thrilled with this program and I love my Mac. Let me know if you need more information.

I was also at the unvailing of the mural. There was about 100 ppl or less and it was great. David took the time to spend time with all the fans, including his family. Andrew was really enjoying the attention too. We saw Mrs. Gentry and she is a very sweet lady. Her and I know some of the same ppl, which was pretty cool.

David really was touched by this mural. From what I undstand, Blue Springs has more planned for him.

Thanks so much for sharing your video with us. It was nice to get the uninterupted version of the ceremony rather than just the snippets we saw on the KC news. It must have been very special to see David in this more intimate setting with the hometown crowd instead of with a gaggle of screeching fans. His humility and genuineness never cease to amaze me. He tried to make sure everyone felt special -- the men on the roof, the officials, the little kids who stood on the stage with him, and especially the Blue Springs South students who painted the mural.

One "negative" comment.....I bet you wanted to hit the blond, camera guy over the head so he would quit blocking your view of David!!!!! I kept thinking, why doesn't he move, I CAN'T SEE David.
