I dont hear many people talk about "All Right Now" being one of Davids best performances, and in fact, when he was interviewed right after his AI win and mentioned that song, only like one person cheered, to which he said thank you to the one person who liked that performance. However, I think he did really good in that performance and every time I watch it, I see more and more of his charisma. What do the rest of you think. Alot of people say he had them at "Hello". Did he "have anyone" before Hello?

actually that was when he GOT me.. Happy together was just OK for me and I didn't like his hair LOL
But All right now was my turning point and Hello just sealed the deal completely...

he had me at his audition. [:
no doubt about it.
i just knew that i loved him when he sang livin on a prayer and i was hooked.
I think All Right Now was a very good performance by DC. Like he was giving a concert. I liked it better than Happy Together. Good choice of song for him. Very sexy, masculine performance. Very strong.
I've read a blog where a lady does an analysis of his energy fields during some of his performances(This is interesting but I know nothing about it.) Her take on ARN is that he is using his physicality, and sexuality in that song, but not the higher sources of energy like the heart. That's why it didn't grab us like Hello.
Really the word nerd segment grabbed us more that night because it was unique, vulnerable, funny.
Remember when DC spoke about having to break down walls between him and the audience between week 2 and 3 because he had walls because of things he didn't want to deal with due to bad relationships or something. The vocal coach encouraged him to work to break down the walls. That was between week 2 and 3.
Then you have Hello. He is more open, more vulnerable, more emotive in that song, shows his heart, his heartbreak, his longing. He reached out and grabbed us all with that. Showed a flash of high heart to her.
In her analysis, he progresses to integrate his whole body, heart and spirit into his songs as he goes along. He seems to learn to do this as he goes along on Idol. That's why he seems to soar to us, I think.
If it's ok to post it, it's on the Bitten by a Cougar blog; under Here Kitty Kitty, gaze into my crystal ball. I love the analysis. Haven't any knowledge, belief, or experience with that type of analysis, but find it interesting how another person explains DC's uniqueness. She's an older woman and not fangirled out by any means. Very higher order thinking.
I really think DC would find that thread interesting, more from how his energy is perceived with his different songs and styles, and the journey on AI. I wonder if he'd agree with the analysis based on what he remembered feeling during the songs. Might be a learning experience for him about how the audience sees him.
Really DC reaches out beyond his voice, his music, with his heart and soul and when he does that, it's magic. Don't you wonder if he knows that is his magic? Surely he has got to know that somehow.

Wow, that is so interesting and I think she is right on. I think that was what David learned between week 2 an 3.
David is very intelligent, I think he knows he connects with us because of his willingness to give from his heart, but I wonder if he can really totally understand how we feel about him because it is so one sided. I mean we feel we know him, and love him for who he is, but unfortunatley he cant know all of us, we are strangers to him,... sad but true. Therefore, I dont think he really understands our side of it. I think we truly love him, but I dont know if he can really understand that. Think about if the situation were reversed, wouldnt it be a little odd????

I remember I caught
All Right Now in the middle of it, and then I saw him talk back to Simon and I figured that he wouldn't last long. But then he sang
Hello the following week and I was just done.
So yeah, he had me at
Hello.

I thought the same with All right Now and David talked back to Simon. I also thought he would be gone if that kept up. Having said that it also gives insight into Davids character he knew that was not going to get him anywhere and he never replied that way again. Hello did it for most people I talk to and he just kept convincing me every week after that. I felt a Big night was Music of the Night, Always be MY Baby and another favorite is The First Time I saw Your Face.

Yep--- He had me at ""Hello" too. It made me really focus on him every week. And then when it was a Beatles week and he sang "Day Tripper" I was a total gonner. Go back and watch it and tell me if that wasn't a "hook, line and sinker" moment. Keep your eye on every part of that performance. The energy and sexuality in that performance was unbelievable. Simon may have thought that was just an average performance, or whatever he called it, but we knew better didn't we?

I knew from "Living on a Prayer" I had my money on him from day one! I loved him from then on and I knew I had to watch for him and I just loved his rendition of "Everything I do." He had it all to me! I just loved him I was hoping he would get kicked off so he wouldn't be so big and of course he went all the way. I was being selfish I wanted him all to myself. Because I was a fan from day one I said it to my mom already!

I definately noticed him at his audition...between the mention of Daughtry before he sang, and then singing Livin on a Prayer (Love me some Bon Jovi) and pulling it off so amazingly, my interests were sparked. I memorized him that night...I usually pick my favorites from the auditions and hope to see them again during Hollywood week. But, like so many others, "Hello" blew me away...from then on, I had eyes (and ears) for no one else...

"Livin' On A Prayer" definitely had me. Bon Jovi and David Cook is quite a lovely combination.
I personally liked all of his performances, not only because he was my choice for the show, but how he presented himself and how he changed it up and took risks. Of course, you can't really like "Happy Together" because it's a pretty cheesy song, but you go with what you have available.

I PAID MORE AND MORE ATTENTION TO HIM EVERY WEEK, HE KEPT REELING ME IN LITTLE BY LITTLE. BUT WHEN I FINALLY "FELL" FOR HIM WAS WHEN HE WON. HE WAS SO HUMBLE AND SO SINCERE AND SENSITIVE AND HE WANTED ALL THE IDOLS TO BE PART OF HS WINNING MOMENT.THE RESPECT HE HAD FOR ARCHY AND THE OTHERS IS SOMETHING YOU DONT SEE OFTEN, ESPECIALLY IN COMPETITION. THATS WHEN HE TOTALLY HAD ME REELED IN. WHAT A GREAT HUMAN BEING, I THOUGHT. AND THAT WAS IT
I admit that the way he handled the win was just wonderful. How he communicated his love and respect for Archie and the other Idols and gracefully accepted the win. He really lifted Archie up with him in the win, and the others. You got the feeling that they were all winners the way he handled it. Especially to him. I got the feeling that he wanted to win, yet he didn't want to win over Archie. That he didn't want to hurt Archie in any way by winning.
And I have to admit that Archie handled not winning equally well. Showed respect and admiration for DC and no resentment for not winning. Genuine admiration. I do think their relationship with each other shows the strength and good nature of their characters. I think they both have kind hearts. Both DC and DA are definitely more than just their singing voices. DC's love for DA brought us all to love DA if we didn't think he was a nice kid already. They both were great at reducing the fanwars.

I absolutely love David's performance of All Right Now and I loved it when Paula said that every kid in Jr. High who was playing a guitar learned that song and all the girls loved them. (close enough) David's reply was something like, "I'm alright with that". Love that guy to pieces! I had actually never watched Idol before this season. I was just channel surfing one evening and there was this guy singing "Happy Together" and I thought he was cute and liked what he did with the song, so I tuned in to American Idol the next week and have been totally cookified ever since! Yes, he showed a lot of confidence and amazing vocals and sex appeal way before Hello!

Yes, I think he had me at "Hello" although I remember the audition "Livin on a Prayer"--mostly the hair--and thinking this guy has a great voice! However, he really "hooked" me with "Hello". I actually started thinking this guy might be here for a while and then there was "Billie Jean" . He blew me away with that song and still does. After that I was a die-hard David Cook fan watching every week as he did amazing things with songs I had since grown tired of...he gave them all a new glorious life. After "Always Be My Baby" I knew that if he continued to create new versions of covers like this..he had a good chance of winning.
However, I sometimes feel a little sorry for the original artists of the covers he did..because if I had my choice as to which version to listen to it would definitely be David Cook's and I know I am not alone. When I now hear the original versions, they sound so "flat" to me.

In a word....yes. And I didn't even realize it until well after the fact.
I remembered David's audition clip for the same reason dcfanforever has stated....the hair, that's actually what made me turn around and watch the audition, and I was overly impressed. After that....I didn't really think anything of it,it was one of those "keep this guy's name in mind...see how he does." Same feeling continued after Hollywood Week and Everything I Do....not really noticing, but not ignoring him either. A few more performances pass, same reaction.....I figured at that point I had no clear-cut favorite and I didn't really care who won.
The week he did Hello.....I was at work, watching the show on my break when Seacrest mentioned David Cook was doing Hello and I was kinda like "HUH?"

Yeah....drew me in for sure,so I sat and waited for the performance. Show went to commercial and came back to David's performance.....with NO SOUND. I was seriously pissed b/c it was the one performance of the night I had actually taken interest in and I didn't get to hear it. So I get home and went hunting like a mad woman trying to find an audio so I could hear it. This was my reation..."Holy Sh*t.....he's good" From then on,I was Cook FTW.

I was captivated the minute I saw David on Hollywood Week. I thought he had something special but not just his voice. Watching him perform was a little bizarre for me. He and my grown son share such similar mannerisms that it was originally strange to watch DC perform. Family members watching American Idol even called to comment about it. My son is left handed, majored in graphic design, had pyloric stenosis and gives awesome hugs. Did I mention that his name is also David. Unfortunately, my David can't sing! David Cook's awesome voice was the icing on the cake. I was a forever fan after Eleanor Rigby. His obvious talent and joy did it for me. Every performance reeled me in a little more.

I'm one of those who never watched a full season of AI, but kind of kept up on who was the frontrunner through coworkers. For whatever reason (thankfully!!), I tuned in to the auditions the night David was on. Immediately, I thought that this was the guy to keep an eye on. From then on I tuned in every week just to see how he was doing. I am also one of the few that was really blown away by All Right Now. Maybe because I actually remember the original done by Free and it kinda brought back childhood memories of hearing my brothers play it on their stereo. I thought David did a fantastic job and this is when I fell in love with his sideways smirky smile
Next week when he did Hello it was over for me. There was no way on God's green earth that this guy wouldn't win it all. I told my kids and hubby that he was the one to watch out for. I held my breath each week hoping that he would hit it out of the ballpark and he never disappointed (OK, maybe with Hungry Like the Wolf.)
I still love to view the weekly tapes, but now with the knowledge that he's by far the best Idol ever!

I've watched AI with my family for the past few years just as a fun family ritual so I remember we were pretty excited this year when we heard about this guy from Blue Springs...which is like 40 min away from where I live...would be on...I remember watching and loving his voice, but we weren't sure if we should get our hopes up. The next few performances I was like wow...he's really good! But then he sang "Hello"...and it was over. I never pick out anyone at auditions or hollywood since I never know if they'll be in the top 24 or not anyway.
Well David was one of my favorites since Happy Together. That's mostly because I actually knew the song he sang
The next week I missed almost all of the boys night because of a concert. I just hoped I would make it in time for David A because his performance was supposed to be amazing. I got there right when Chikezie was done (I think he was 3rd last?) and David Cook was next. I remember thinking "oh yeah this is the only other guy I really care about seeing".
I found a list I made in class the day after of what I thought the top 12 would be. I think David was at about 8, but this was basing off of other peoples comments too, so taking in their popularity with other people as well as me. (he was the 2nd or 3rd person I listed when I listed the top 20 before I made the list)
Then after Hello, David was my number 1 favorite. Then after Innocent, but because of Little Sparrow, I loved him more than any other person on the show I've watched. (I love Kelly Clarkson but I didn't watch her season so I'm not counting her)

I was embarrassingly slow: to be completely honest - initial auditions - I couldn't see past the hair style; At All Right Now: I started thinking he was pretty cute, and I really liked his rendition of a song; Hello - I was like wow - someone who is interesting musically. After that, it was no longer American Idol - it was "let's check out what David Cook is going to do." Always Be My Baby started the obsession.

Didn't see his original audition.
Hollywood week - MJ really caught my eye, David did Everything I do, a song I loath with a passion, so I sort of tuned him out (may have even wandered out of the room

)
Him getting top 24, well he'd by then become the man with the ridiculous hair and horrific clothing style (pink tie

) and I had him down to go very eary
Completely ignored him for 2 weeks, apart from liking his Word Nerd segment, either flicked channels when he was on, or put the kettle on etc.
Then, for some reason, I did sit down to watch Hello - firstly realised that he was actually quite cute in his intro section - I do like a man in a hat, and then sat there mesmerised for Hello.
The rest, as they say, is history.

His audition~seemed intelligent, well-spoken, confident....was surprised to learn that he was only 25.....seemed older, and very mature for his age! However, he was an odd combination of punk (the hair)/nerd (the argyle sweater)/rocker (the song choice)....but whatever he was.....he had an impressive voice! I made a mental note to watch and see how far he would go!
Hollywood week~the little bit we saw of him, his voice was still good, his look a little better than auditions....felt bad the way Simon kind of 'dismissed' him and his talent, his rudeness was over the top, even for Simon! Was happy to see Randy and Paula put him through! Still kept him in mind to see how far he might go!
Happy Together~I've always hated the song.....so I wasn't too impressed by DC or the performance that week! Thought the 'changing hair'....going from faux hawk to totally flat was kind of weird....interesting guy, if nothing else, lol!
All Right Now~always liked Free's Paul Rodger's version, and thought DC was kinda a 'wanna-be', also thought he looked a bit smug.....but felt bad for him when Simon again put him down on National TV. Although I kind of agreed with the 'smug' comment, I was seeing another side of DC from his 'Word Nerd' video......Simon, you are totally wrong.....women DO like a guy who is smart!
Hello~um, my jaw hit the floor! The 'look', sensitivity, sexuality, vulnerability, the re-working of the song, the stage presence......everything! WOW just WOW! The hair, black tee-shirt, side smile, eyes (both open and closed), working of the mic......didn't hurt either......he was the one to watch......and was IT for me, from that moment on!
David's performances just got better and better, and after watching all seven seasons of AI, I had never become so invested in another contestant before. This was the season of all seasons.....and all because of DC and his amazing talent, personality, intelligence, look and heart!

Someone posted previously about how he captured us when he started showing his sensitive side, and his emotions. The more I thought about it, the more I decided that that was true. Sure, he was sexy during All Right Now... but just another sexy male singer with a good voice and experience..... i think we all like a confident guy. But what made him really enter our hearts was when he let down the wall enough for us to see his true heart, even though he says himself, he was hesitant. That is what turned him into a real human being for us, I think, and set him apart from all the rest. He became real, and we found out more very week what a wonderful human being he was because he let us into his heart, and we have loved him ever since.

All Right Now in the middle of it, and then I saw him talk back to Simon and I figured that he wouldn't last long. But then he sang
Hello the following week and I was just done.
So yeah, he had me at
Hello.
I remember after All Right Now, Paula said that all of the junior high girls fell in love with the guitar player and David said, "I'm OK with that." I thought that was so adorable.

I only started watching American Idol when they started the Top 24 (the auditions don't amuse me anymore), but if I'd seen his audition when he did Livin' On a Prayer, he would've had me there because I love anyone who can sing Bon Jovi well. I liked Happy Together and All Right Now, Hello was amazing as well, but Eleanor Rigby was what got me. I don't know why, except that he was brilliant, and after that week I was Cook-obsessed.
