I'm loving the DC pimpage tonight. Saw him a bit in the beginning...interviewed his mom...played the extended commercial....awesome!
I bet this is surreal for him to watch. It's like....."oh there's my picture in the backdrop...oh wait...there's my commercial and there's my mom and step-dad" I bet it's still crazy for him to see all this.
Oh does anyone else find themselves randomly distracted by Cookie in the backdrop? lol

All. The. Time.
I liked the widowed music teacher and the girl who was a caregiver to her grandmother. There were a few others that weren't bad but these are the only ones that stood out for me so far.

Not randomly, obsessively. Especially with what little was competing for my attention.
I am sad because I feel that this season will not compare with lasts in any way. Looking forward to the David Cook segments tonight. Sometimes its rough being on the West Coast. Gosh diddly.

Michael Castro was really cute! I was amazed at how nearly identical Michael and Jason's speaking voices are, but their singing voices were so different. But Michael had so many of Jason's mannerisms, and their little "argument" over the "girly" remark was hysterical! I think, though, Michael lacks experience and that'll show in Hollywood, not that Jason had much experience either.
And the guy who lost his wife, I think his name was Danny, had me in tears! I liked the last girl, Lil Rounds. I thought she was good and was so modest.
They do seem to be focusing more on the good singers instead of the trainwrecks, and there have been some talented singers, but no one has really stood out to me yet. Although I've been too spoiled by David Cook -- I don't think anyone is ever going to stand out as much as he did.
And I looooooved all the Cookie pimping tonight. It was so funny when Ryan was standing on the street corner talking about whatever it was he was talking about, my eye immediately went to the people coming across the street and I was thinking, that looks like David's mother! And I'm so glad they showed the extended David promo, now that I have a DVD recorder and can save it
But, whoa, that place they were holding the auditions looked like a dump. There was cracked plaster on the walls and the corner where they were interviewing some of the contestants looked filthy, and even the way they had the audition "room" set up looked cheap. Don't they usually hold the auditions in a classy hotel? It looked like they were holding the KC ones in an old abandoned store front in a not so nice part of town. Seemed a bit odd.
And, yeah, couldn't help but constantly stare at David on the backdrop, and I love seeing his face now in the opening!

I liked a lot more people tonight than last night. I actually liked Michael Castro, the widower (Danny?) and the tornado lady (Lil?). A few others were pretty good too.
Salt Lake City probably has its own episode. I predict major Archie pimpage whatever night that is..... (duh!)

David's commercial for American Idol where they replay his year backward while he's laying on his bed...
As for Kara, she's not so bad. My kids are divided -- my son says "I like her -- she's pretty" My daughter says "I don't like her -- she's annoying" She doesn't like change in tradition, and to her it's always been SimonRandyPaula... we'll see.

Jan 14 2009, 09:30 PM
I think I like Kara so far. She's not as stuck up as I thought she might be, and she seems to know her stuff. But I think she's drowning Paula out a bit. She doesn't seem to be getting in as much commentary as she usually does. But we're only two shows in, we'll have to see how things continue to go.

On a different note, here's a sum-up of the season premiere:
1. Those bits of DC montages and the usage of A Daily AntheM - that's pure love! I felt like singing along to the song.
2. Kara's debut as the 4th judge - she's doing a fine job as one, and I'm already liking her. The idea of adding in the 4th judge is a good one, especially with Kara as the choice.
3. Most of the hopefuls featured are less than impressive, and even more so with the rejects. Too much screen-time given to them, to say the least. There was this one other reject who reminded me of a xerox machine, which I mentioned in another thread in the Off-Topic forum.
4. Scott McIntyre left a deep impression on me. His back-story is touching, and his audition is double of that. I just hope that if he made it to the top 24 (or so), the voting public will vote him for his talent, and not for other agendas. But then again, it's too early to tell.
5. I don't mean to be rude, but Simon is SUCH an asshat, with him posing those questions to the hopefuls. Is he trying to define the perception that Americans are dumb? Simon, you are one yourself and that is so totally uncalled for.
6. Lastly, what's up with the PK competition between Kara and Katrina aka Bikini Girl? The latter may have scored herself a golden ticket, but she ain't gonna be on Kara's fave contestant list anytime soon.
And now for today's episode:
1. At the moment, my current fave is Michael Castro, but only because he is Jason's brother. But I must admit, he's got quite a good set of vocals like his brother. Also, I hope he can surpass his brother in more ways than one, which includes sounding more versatile. That is, if he makes it to the final 24/30.
2. It was so sweet of Jason to be there to show support for Michael. Ah! Sibling bonding is a rare gem these days.
3. And as always, most of the audition clips are horrendous, especially with the one where one hopeful actually did a Michael Jackson style of When You Say Nothing At All! Yet again, I cringed. Sure, it's all about redoing song arrangements and making it your own, but that one sure was OTT (over the top)
4. Seriously, what's up with the medley of Signed Sealed Delivered? I ain't too sure if that one is in any way helpful in terms of entertainment value though.
5. That's about all I will say, for now. I'm so looking forward to the next episode!!

I wondered about many of the people that they let go through to Hollywood. They've given out a combined 54 golden tickets so far and only a handful of them have left any impression on me at all.

I saw some promising talent over the last two nights, and I know it's too early to judge anything, but to me everyone looks like a bridesmaid compared to the magnificent bride we crowned last year. Still it is a fun show to watch, and you never know who will emerge I guess, but I doubt I will be nearly as excited as I was--and still am--over the REAL Idol.

I agree that there are a few worth watching in this new season. I'm curious to see how Castro's brother does on the show. Interesting dude. I really thought that Danny (guy who lost his wife) had potential.
I also agree that it is distracting to see David's picture behind the people auditioning. I don't mind being distracted, though. It is so cool to see him with the past winners.
Should be an interesting season.

I haven't developed a keen interest in anybody yet... but there are at least a few I liked and remember...but not their names. I liked the girl Simon told to "grow teeth", I liked the visually impaired guy; the guy who lost his wife and the band director. Is it just me or does everybody kind of sound the same... maybe just a style thing but that sort of crooning style isn't my favorite...

I haven't really seen anyone I really, really like yet. I thought Jason Castro's brother had a pretty good voice. I really liked the guy who lost his wife, he had a nice voice and the band director was good as well. I don't really watch the auditions anymore, I watched them once last year (and that unfortunately wasn't the episode with David's audition), usually because they're not funny anymore. I like how they were focusing on more of the good singers a little more than they usually do.
I have to admit, though, I really only wanted to watch the auditions to see David's face added to the backdrop behind everyone...

I have to agree that I'm not really enjoying the auditions as much - the rolled eyes and laughs from the judges make me cringe - they seem so cruel. May be because I'm so much more emotionally invested now, but that doesn't seem necessary - these kids are putting their souls out there - at least treat them nicely.

Anyway, I'm not so thrilled with this season so far. I don't think anyone has really impressed me. There were some good ones, but nobody that could even come close to David. Sadly, I think he's ruined Idol for me. Orignally the combination of his amazingness, the fourth judge (I liked it so much better when it was just Paula, Randy, and Simon!), and various other things made me not really want to watch it.
