Tonight was another bland and boring show. They spent too much time with the weirdos (like the guy with the beard) and not enough time with the decent people. One girl who seemed promising got like 10 seconds, yet they spent so much time pushing that 16 yr old who couldn't sing worth beans. I guess it was to contrast her with the 16 yr old girl who could sing.

Then they let several people go through who weren't bad, but they weren't really good, either. Or, at least they weren't anything special. I'm not sure if anyone we've seen yet has caught my attention enough for me to vote for them. By this time last year I already had my sights (and my heart) set on DC and MJ. Not that I expected anyone to bowl me over completely like David did, but I was hoping there would be someone to root for. I hope this doesn't turn out to be another season 3!

Well we still have two more nights of auditions and then Hollywood week starts next week, so maybe we'll finally have a chance to see the contestants they skimmed over in the audition shows. Hopefully someone will stand out!
dream
I never like the auditions much because of the train wrecks...I usually do other things while watching, have it on in the background. The serious watching for me starts at Hollywood Week.
Last night's episode was boring and I felt Paula's little snit was staged just to get something interesting on air.
laeddie
These audition weeks are really getting on my nerves this year.... I really hate watching the judges laugh at people. And they seem to spend more time on the weirdos than the true talents. Hollywood week can't come soon enough for me - these auditions simply don't hold my attention.
idol fan
Tonight the auditions are in Utah and supposedly that is where they find a lot of talent this year. Hopefully it is as good as they say. I usually watch and do other things too.

I agree with totally with you guys... I have said from the beginning of this season Hollywood week cannot come fast enough for me.

OMG. I agree 100% I actually changed the channel to the Biggest Loser....A/I was stupid and boring and a waste of time. I hope during Hollywood week we wil get to see some talent. No DC but ...hahaha

Yep - I actually changed the channel and watched the Devils Wears Prada again...
HookedonDavidCook87
I started watching something else as well cause the judges were being weird and the audtions were boring and weird as well. I swear nothing will top David and his season.
Cookie's Girl
Okay, so totally not feeling the AI love around here! laugh.gif No, I understand what you guys are saying, I'm just WAAAAYYY too hooked on this show for my own good. It's my TV crack....
davidcookfan08
yea i cannnot to see to hollywood week next week
idoleyze
Love the show, just not feelin it this year...the best part so far is seeing David's face on the Wall wink.gif
travis
they just played a daily anthem on the show biggrin.gif
cookieisacutie
Thanks, Travis. I will be sure to watch tonight, if only to hear A Daily AntheM. Love that song!

The "A Daily AntheM" snippet was the best part of the show. But overall I was underwhelmed again. There were some okay people that they said no to (I liked the guy with the bunny friend!) and then some horrible people that they let go through. I liked the one girl Taylor who Randy said reminded him a bit of Jordin Sparks. I didn't think that Rose was all that great, especially after the way they promoted her endlessly throughout the entire show, but I guess they liked her sad back story. David Osmond was pretty good, but didn't blow me away. The high school class president kid was interesting, but I thought that Megan girl who they raved about was oddly theatrical, and not in a good way. The only other good part was the snippet of Hollywood week that they showed.

That was the highlight for me too. And of course, I had to tell my husband "that's David Cook!" and give him the lowdown. The husband will become cookified yet tongue.gif
Balla
ok im curious as to why nobody talked about this yet but my familyy and i were very confused as to why David Osmond auditioned. if hes the son of a celebrity hes got to have millions of dollars and it probably would be sooo easy to get a record deal if he truly wanted it. not that im insulting him. he really seems like a nice guy. but is this to get people to watch the show more or something? i just...dont get it.
Cathe
I was so excited to hear David's A Daily AntheM. Also they played The World I Know that David covered on the show, but I don't think it was him singing in this episode. So cute to see David Archuleta, too bad he couldn't stop by and say Hi.
Tomorrow we get two hours of American Idol, I can't wait.

I thought that the Osmond guy was really cute, too. (Way nicer looking than his uncles, LOL)
lesliejay
Cathe - you're right, that wasn't David's TWIK, it was Collective Soul's. I almost jumped off the sofa when AdaM came on! I dvr the show and fast forward through to the actual auditions. That's the only way I can watch ones like weird bearded guy and his ilk and the way the judges laugh at them. So far no one's stood out for me either, and I don't think I heard good stuff about Puerto Rico.
SethCook
By far, this season is only watchable for me, but not much for me to comment on, cos it's purely bland. Even the trainwrecks don't seem funny anymore. Thank goodness this week is the final week of auditions! smile.gif

The only 2 people in the show who spurred me to keep on watching Idol are Ryan Seacrest and Kara DioGuardi. Somehow, the scene in Tuesday's episode looked cute, with Ryan sitting on Kara's lap - I hate to say this, but he looked more like a toddler sitting on mom's lap! laugh.gif
Kitunen
I agree with everybody who is utterly underwhelmed with this season...I have yet to see anybody who I could see in the actual winning moment. David's winning was just too perfect, nothing will ever top it. I really can't remember what too many people sounded like, or their names either...

David, you ruined this show for me!! (But that's completely okay with me! tongue.gif)
davidcookfan08
i'm glad that played David's A Daily AntheM to

I found that really cute!

Okay I don't get this season so far, even the ones the judges loved and raved over are not bowling me over. I can't wait for the auditions to be over. Looking forward to the drama of the Hollywood round. laugh.gif I can't wait for when America gets to vote. That's when we really get to hear every contestant.

I'm surprised that I'm liking Kara so far. When I first heard they were adding a 4th judge, I thought they were crazy! laugh.gif Cos 3's MORE than enough with the way Paula rambles on at times. But Kara's pretty cool. I liked when she sang a little, would like to hear more. Okay what does that say when I'd rather hear one of the JUDGES sing than the contestants! LOL!

willow
Well, that's the end of the auditions and while there are some good people, I don't think there was anyone who grabbed me enough to even try to remember their name. Hopefully we'll see more talent break through during Hollywood week. I know there will never be another David Cook, but I was hoping at least for someone to impress me enough to want to vote for them. Guess I'll just have to wait for next Tuesday to see if anyone stands out for me.
MomOfTwo
I only watched the last two nights of auditions, shich is one more than I watched last year. From what I saw, I think that we don't have a situation where everyone has such a unique style. Last year the Top 12 were all different and I only see that with a couple of people. I liked the Mom with the little baby who came with her husband (from Utah). I just think that no 17 year old boy is ever going to David Arculetta and I'm not really a fan although I think his voice is very good. It's exceptional and I really don't hear that. And of course David Cook is so original with how he makes everything his own that I think that will be a huge mountain to climb for someone. He's such a real deal and I don't really see that being duplicated this year no matter how much they want to say this is the "best year ever."

In regards to David Osmond, I read years ago that everyone pays their own way in life in that family no matter how much money the family has. So there were never going to be any real breaks for him. They all have to carve their own paths in life.

I totally agree with you! No one is comparable this season(so far anyway) I picked David from his audition. I remember really liking Michael Johns,David Hernandez and Robbie Carrico from their tryouts. Cannot remember anyone but Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert so far this year. Hope it picks up Hollywood week. But David is in a class by himself!!
davidcookfan08
your right because danny and adam are only memoriables auditions we have seen
Penguin Lover
well the auditions are over and i have to say that no one is grabbing my attention yet. hopefully hollywood week will be better (especially since i beleive they are bringing back the group round. it always makes for good tv).

I agree--this all seems very weird to me, although I do think he has a good voice. just all kinda strange, tho......

I am starting to like having kara as a judge---always liked how she seemed as a person, just did NOT like having my format messed with!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate change. LOL!! smile.gif

I also can't remember anyone's name yet either....i mean NO one's!! WHich one is Adam that you guys keep talking about? I might know--if so, i like him too.

One thing that is REALLLLY annoying me this year is that there have been SEVERAL people they put through to hlollywood that I thought were AWFUL..awful to the point where I kept waiting for the judges to laugh at them/ask if it was a joke/say how they should give up singing/etc etc...and then next thing I know the judges are fawning over them/putting them through to Hollywood?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GEEEEZZZZZ!!!!!! Hoping they will all fall flat on their face when they get there.....

OMG YES! i thought the same thing. this season they let just about anyone through to hollywood round. honestly bikini girl doesnt have that bad of a voice but she wasnt idol material her looks got her through to thehollywood. this angers me because AI went from having to much talent last season to throwing it down the gutter this season.

We haven't seen a lot of the ones that made it to Hollywood yet, so I'm hoping for some surprises. For example, they put 20-something through from NYC and we only saw a handful of them.

I think they put a lot of marginal singers through, not because the judges thought they could win, but because they thought they would be good TV entertainment for Hollywood week while the judges are still in control.

Hi kookyc--

Glad to know I'm not the only one that thought they were letting just about anyone through!! smile.gif I mean, bikini girl it was obvious why they put her through (yuk!!), but there were SEVERAL others, as I said, that I just couldn't BELIEVE that they weren't thrown under the bus, and instead were put thru!! Go figure....

Well, here's hoping that Hollywood week we will FINALLY be able to see the true talent. I thought I had read prior to this season starting that they were going to show less of the bad auditions, and more of the good ones. Well, THAT sure didn't happen!!!!!!!!!!!! smile.gif

aargh how could they let bikini girl through to the next round?! the guys need to close their eyes when she sings so they'll finally know that she sucks.

Kara and Paula need to put their foot down on that one... ugh.

Bikini girl must die...

Ok not literally but maybe punched in the face a few times.

OK - this question isn't technically about season 8 - but after watching the painful "Group Round" last night I got thinking about past seasons... I have never watched a group round before and wondered whether this is a usual feature. What did David do and with whom? I went back to the rerun thread for season 7 and didn't see anything there either... very curious...

Thanks!

Grandmajoyce
They have done group round from the very first season. However, last season they eliminated it. I guess its back.

No one is grabbing me this year!

I think the group thing was eliminated cause they got to use instruments instead. No one is grabbing me this year either plus I keep forgetting to watch tongue.gif I just wanna know when David is going to come back on AI
Grandmajoyce
LOL, me too! Can't wait for his return.

Is there no instruments this year?
daveNdorts
I am keeping on my eye on that kid ADAM great voice a little theatrical but I think he is going to go far and the other guy DANNY i think his name is.......the girls they all sound the same to me nothing exciting
Cookie's Girl
My favorite is Brent Keith, but I didn't see much of him on Tuesday. My dad forgot to record yesterday, so I can't comment much on that one.
idoleyze
I am soooooo thrilled "Bikini Girl" is gone....Danny was great! And the little piece with Adam sounded pretty good too.

well see....
SourceNRG
Wow--I had forgotten that there was no group round last year when DC was on!!! And I am echoing Grndmajoce's question..are there no instruments this year?!?!

Also--whatever happened to Jason Catsro's brother---I don't remember if he made it through last night???

VERY surprised they didn't let David osmond through...yet let some other questionable people continue..hmmmm.....

yeah, the fact that bikini girl is gone may the group round worthwile. the group that sang acapella (i think it had danny gokey in it) was pretty good. adam has a good voice but needs to lighten up on the eyeliner. its distracting.

I liked them..
and them( scroll down).

David Osmond explained on Entertainment tonight that he had laryngitis and lost his voice completly so therefore he was eliminated. I'm really not a fan of group night mostly because I think it takes you away from the voices and puts you into the drama which can change your opinion. For me it was like I was hoping for some of the more obnoxious ones' failure. Thankfully, most of them went by the wayside. But then it meant less camera time for the good voices because we were so caught up with the "Divas" and the other groups, many of whom did not go through. I liked it much better last year because you didn't have that, although, you know the Four Horsemen would have rocked it!

I like Adam, Danny, and Ann Marie so far. I have always said though that it is unfair that they choose to focus on/highlight certain performers beforehand. It gives them a headstart on creating a fanbase and an advantage going into the voting stages of the show.

David, Michael, Luke Menard and Jason Yeager became friends and called themselves the Four Horsemen.

Take a look at David's clip (with the pink tie) when he was told he made it through to the top 12 boys. When he got back downstairs and told everyone he'd made it, those other three were together and they all jumped up and cheered big time for him. And there were a couple of other places where he held up four fingers, I can't remember exactly where though.
