I saw a promo the other day, and it wasn't the one where he's lying on the bed, but it shows him singing Billie Jean, and then Simon says, "To win this competition, you have to be the best."

The new judge, Kara DioGuardi, will be on "Late Show with David Letterman" tonight at 11:35 p.m. EST. We'll see what she has to say about all the changes (of which she's one!)

That should be interesting. I'm anxious to see how the whole four judge thing is going to work out.

OMG I feel the same way. I was a little mad at all the hipe about Season 8 ....I felt it was taking away from David..Stupid I Know but I have been watching from the beginning and have not and will not feel the same way about anyone else but MR COOK> He Stole my heart!

Same here. I didn't really watch Idol properly until last year - well, I watched S6 right up until the top 5, then lost interest. S7 is the only season that I've managed to watch the whole way through, and really that was all down to Cookie. If he hadn't auditioned, or if I hadn't watched his audition, I think I may have lost interest after a while. Aside from Archie and MJ, he was the only contestant who really stood out for me. I will be watching S8 (which premieres here on Thursday night - I have another 2 more days to wait, pah), but I'm unsure as to how long I'll stay interested for. I'm afraid it'll be nothing compared to last season.

Kara DioGuardi didn't really say much on David Letterman last night. She talked about becoming a singer/songwriter instead of a lawyer, much to her parents' dismay. She said she writes lyrics and the melody, but not the music per se. Then she name dropped about who she's worked with. Then she finally said something about AI -- that it surprised her that some of the contestants cannot sing for anything, yet they truly believe they can and then cry when they don't get put through to Hollywood. She was surprised by this? Has she never seen the show? Then she said that all four judges get along and that she and Paula gang up on Simon occasionally.

All and all, not too informative and the interview was mostly about "her." She was only on for 3 or 4 minutes, so I guess there wasn't much time to get into anything interesting. I would have liked her to talk about some of the changes in show and/or maybe talk about some of the talented singers to look for, even if she couldn't name names. I read in a newspaper article that she says there are 5 male singers who she thinks are great and that there's a more "soul" and R&B talent this year.

That's exactly how I feel!

like so many of you, i feel like im not too excited about this season after all the wonderful things cook gave us last season:
-my first american idol tour, i hadnt been interested in going to one until last season
-new music to listen to (all his AI performances and AH)
-a new "eye candy"
-looking past his outer appearance, we met a good hearted, incredibly talented person
-something to be all excited about every night once a week and a hot topic in the lunch room the next day at school!

honestly, my "fire" has kinda died out. lets face it, cookie basically took over our lives last year! it was all i could think about or look at or listen to. but after awhile, it kinda died out for me. do i still love david? of course. i still love his album and i always will keep myself updated with him, but ive moved onto to other things now. i look forward to this season. i just dont think it will be anything thing like the wild ride Mr. Cook gave us last year.

My fire for David just keeps getting hotter! I will try to watch this season but feel really funny about it like I'll be cheating on him. I'm weird I know.

No one is screaming superstar to me yet but so far I liked the blond girl that got through a little while ago (forgot her name - Deanna?), the girl who sang Put Your Records On, and Stevie, the high school girl who needs to "grow teeth" wasn't bad. The pink-haired rocker girl was okay too. There were several with okay voices but nothing exceptional.

I'm watching it right now. Loved the David Cook montage. Someone uploaded the whole episode on youtube, so I get to watch David's part a billion times and never get sick of it. I love hearing ADAM on TV.

This is my first full season of A.I. Saw season 7 from just the top 10. Thought it was ok, not something I would watch again. THEN the last contestant came on singing "Billy Jean" & my life has not been the same since! I was "Cooked!"
It will be interesting to see how much I will be into season 8. There is only one David Cook & there is ABSOLUTY no other artist that has changed my life. Only David. But there is so much great music & talent out there to enjoy. The skys the limit with so many stars to enjoy, but the biggest, brightest one will always stand out. It can never be replaced & is always the first one you see when you look up,but don't forget to look around.

I wondered if bikini girl was just some sort of act that they decided to throw in to keep things interesting since there is no David. My favorite part of the auditions is seeing his face right behind them when they are performing. And of course, I loved his montage.

I too will not ever, ever be so invested in another AI contestant, and I have watched since Season 2. I am in Raleigh, NC, so we were on the Clay Aiken bandwagon and wanted him to win, but the way David has affected me is something I am not likely to ever experience again.

Haven't seen that movie in a while. I guess I have the talent of remember useless pieces of information.

it was an ok 1st day there have been better years of auditions.i guess im just being biased because i love season 7 way too much.

the cactus "x-ray" guy had be laughing as well as the guy who almost passed out. i thought the Bikini Girl was very annoying and she's not that great of a singer.

i have to say that im not liking Kara so far. maybe its too early to judge her but so far im not liking her. we'll see as this season progresses

The show was alright but it wasn't that exciting. I wasn't blown away by anything.
It was only the first show so we will see what happens in other ones.

The girl in the bikini...I mean, come on! Gimme a break! Little Miss Attitude. That was definitely for entertainment.
Some of the singers were ok. I loved the chick with all the tattoos! She was awsome!! I hope she goes far in the competition.

i hate that bikini girl. shes degrading women! she got her 5 minutes of fame and that should of been it...but stupid randy and simon put her through. after the incident with kara she is now my favorite judge =] she just seems like someone who truly believes only SINGERS should compete.
