I just read that Danny's grandfather passed away and he went back to Milwaukee this weekend. Poor guy!
He'll be back for tonight's show.
Danny did great tonight. His best so far. I also liked Kris alot too. Megan a train wreck again. If she survives again I'll pull my hair out!

me too, Megan's got to go.
Danny, Kris and Scott did really well. I liked Lil a lot too, even if the song was "old fashioned". Allison and Matt and Anoop were off a little.. Adam was actually a lot of fun tonight.
Allison, Matt and Megan in the bottom three, Megan goes home. If it's Matt or Allison they might use the save.

I read that too - and noticed a few tears glistening in his eyes last night while he was singing.. poor guy, he's been through so much. Loved his performance, the emotion flowed out.
Beside Danny, I'm really getting into Kris - his performance was stellar last night! Those were my 2 favorites.
Adam was great too - he really does work that stage - the theater background is working for him, for sure!
I'm very afraid for Matt - he's been one of my favorites and I was floored last week when he was in the bottom three, but I'm afraid last night's night song choice did him no favors. Hopefully his fans (hope there are some, besides me...) will pull him through. I agree with Kara that he's too talented to go home.
And Megan really needs to go home...! I get that she might be able to fit into the Adele/Duffy mold, but I truly think it's her beauty that's keeping her around (think KLC!)
We'll see - I'm currently in 5th place in my office pool, need to make some bold choices to move up in the rankings...
BUT - tonight is David's night on AI!!! I may be in such a DC trance that I don't even notice who goes home!!

My bottom 2 for this week is Scott and Megan. I've never really liked Scott, and Megan just needs to go, end of story.
I like Matt but he didn't do so good last night, and after 3 SOLID performances by Kris, he has become my favorite and made me break my "not voting this year" lol

Nothing against Adam or his fans, but you know how those kind of articles just tend to bring out the nasty people. Somewhere is a post about "haven't heard much from Cook lately." ^Bottom three were Anoop, Megan and Allison
Megan went home (thank god) and they didn't even give her a chance to sing for a save citing that they didn't think she cared whether or not she went home. They still let her sing her last song though which at the moment I muted my television. I'm just so glad Megan is gone.

I haven't really been following AI 8 much this year, so I don't know if this subject has been brought up anywhere else or if it's old news.

At the end of the group number at the beginning of last night's show, did anyone notice Adam Lambert's "eye" tattoo on his right wrist when they raised their arms up in the air? The camera zoomed in on it for a split second. Just wondering if our David was an influence here...?
Sorry about the poor quality of the pics. I used my camera to take these shots from my TV from the April 1st episode of AI.

Did not notice that, but I did notice another David influence -- Adam was actually a sweetheart and helped Lil down the steps from the couches to the center of the stage. (during the AI7 Rewind in January, I remember people commenting on David doing that a number of times....
PS This is the second time that they just had Scott play keyboards during the group number instead of trying to work him into the choreography. I guess it's a better solution than the couch dance, but they can't use that every week...can they?

I'm really glad Megan went home. Sorry to any that might be her fans, but I found her a bit obnoxious last night. I usually never have a problem with her personality (just her voice), but last night when she said she didn't care about Simon's comments, that was really just shooting herself in the foot. In the words of David Cook (paraphrased anyway), Simon's comments matter.
The bottom three was pretty accurate, there could have been a trade off of Anoop/Matt/Scott, but on the whole it was pretty accurate (even though I love Allison, she really didn't do as well as she usually does on Tuesday. They were definitely going to use the save on her if they had to).
Apparently there's a bit of a problem on the AI forums that people think Simon was far too rude at the end of the show last night. I just found that a bit amusing.
They could probably keep using Scott for the keyboards as long as he's on the show. If it makes him happy and comfortable.

And the award for strangest contestant to ever grace Idol stages goes to.... Megan Joy!!!!! *cricket*
Now, I haven't watched all 8 seasons, just 5-8 so far, but seriously....? Has there really been anyone as insane as she was last night? I really believe she was on crack! She knew she was going home, and so just was like, "Screw it, might as well have fun!" *facepalm* Honestly, she just grew progressively worse as the weeks went on. I'm so thankful she's gone, now we have people who can actually SING!!!!!!!!
America finally got the bottom three right for the most part, although I would've traded Lil for Allison. I

Allison! Lil has failed to impress me so far, and I don't like her attitude. Idk, something just irks me about her.
Now, as for David's performance: CONSUMMATE. PERFORMER. He has the right attitude on and off the stage, he performs brilliantly, and he's just all around AMAZING. I loved when those girls were like, "I love you, David!" and he said, "Not as much as I love you," without any hesitation. That was epic.
I really miss last season. There was just so much more personality, and life! *sigh* Ah, well, can't always get what you want.

I agree with everyone--HALLELUJIAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO MORE MEGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

I was SHOCKED, tho, because I figured she was this year's contestant that unmercifully would continue to be around to torture us for WEEKS!!!!! Somehow we got blessed. AMEN!! LOL!!!!!!
And David seemed very nervous last night...quite pitchy on many of his notes. His Youtibe videos from the "tewer" have been MUCH better than last night on Idol...hence the difference between no nerves (tewer) and nerves (coming back to Idol!!). BUT--of course I still LOVED seeing him...just wanted to spray him with Rescue Remedy or something similar to help him relax.

LOVED seeing him crying on Idol again (for getting his platinum record)...just like old times! LOL!! Even he said something like "why do I always cry on this show?!?".

Ageed about Megan. So glad she went home. She had a lot of inapproprite expressions and gestures on Wednesday night. Today's NY Post says the "caw-caw" was a shout out to her fans on"Vote for the Worst" Whatever the reason, there was no exuse for rudeness to Simon. I think the only reason she was there was because he thought she was beautiful.
I disagree about David's performance. I watched it again last night and I loved it. Didn't hear any pitchiness at all. Loved watching him get his platinum record. He is the most gracious, sweet person to have ever graced the Idol stage.
So nice to see his mom and grandma back in the audience too.

I got info from a good friend of mine via another message board:
YouTube Power Ranking Top 9
I have pulled in more sources to reveal the videos that got deleted. So they count as well.
1. {1} Adam (131,000)
2. {4} Danny (113,000)
3. {5} Kris (64,000) about half of Adam
4. {2} Allison (51,000) (**eliminated**)
5. {6} Megan (18,000) about one quarter of Kris
6. {8} Anoop (14,000)
7. {3} Matt G (11,000)
8. {10} Scott (2,000)
9. {7} Lil Rounds (2,000)
Incidentally, the Top 4 is my personal Top 4 at the moment.
Next week's theme is the Year You Were Born which unsurprisingly is more restrictive than this week's theme. Here are their birth year:
* Danny 1980
* Adam 1982
* Lil Rounds 1984
* Matt 1985
* Kris 1985
* Scott 1985
* Anoop 1986
* Allison 1992

But I'm a little biased when it comes to Kris. He is teh hotness. *giggle* I know he's married, but he is fun to look at!

I agree that he screeches when he doesn't need to, but even worse than that, he's just so fake. Even Tracks of my Tears, which he sang stripped down was just a performance, not real. But tonight, I gotta give it up to him. I thought for the first time that he felt a song. Maybe he was still acting, but he had me believing him for the first time.
However, I WAS a little pissed that he wore the beanie in the clip about his childhood

He just seems to try to be Cook, in so many ways, but denies it (like he said he prefers Kelly Clarkson to Cook - yeah, sure!). I remember during Hollywood week he said something like "I like to change a song up and make it my own" which was a Cook original (until we got to Kara and the top 13; now she's says that every week, but it began with David). Then he dressed like David did on AI a few times, with the leather jacket, the scarf hanging out his back pocket, and the metal chain. So when he wore the beanie tonight, I just growled at the TV
He's a good singer. I wish he would stop trying to play a part or be someone else and just be himself. Then I might actually like him. But standing ovation from Simon, idk if he really deserved that, especially since Simon has never done that before.
Kris could be in trouble this week. I like him a lot but tonight just wasn't good and he's doing poorly on dialidol
Okay, 'nuf for tonight.

I didn't think Adam's beanie was trying to be Cook, I think that is just how all the guys dress these days, and David just wants to be like all the other guys too, and I think that Adam probably has no idea that we've been having massive debates about whether David would go hatless or not on any particular night. I actually liked it that he wore it (even though I DO NOT like it on Cookie!) HOWEVER, I did notice Anoop name-dropping that he has the same birthday as David, though, and THAT was on purpose!
Adam was really good. Even hubby, who generally makes fun of everyone and still doesn't get the fascination with Cookie, thought he did a really good job. He's talented, and he's softening the punk edge a little bit (probably on the advice of the fashionistas, but still) which I think may make him appeal to a broader audience. (a la a Little Sparrow haircut???)
I didn't think Lil was as bad as the judges said, and I didn't think Anoop was as good as the judges said. I thought Kris was all-right, I don't really think he'll be in trouble, but then again, you never know. Scott was meh, he had that one really bad note. Cool that he plays guitar too, though. Matt, Danny and Allison did well enough to stay in.
Bottom three: Lil, Anoop, Scott, and Scott is voted off but is saved by the save.

For me, tonight Adam was on a totally different program than everyone else. Theatrical with all the drama and blue lights? Well, yeah, but it was still head and shoulders above anything else tonight.
Danny was okay, he still hasn't wowed me yet, though, and I'm a fan! Kris, Anoop and Matt...eh, they were okay. Allison was good, reminds me a bit of Kelly Clarkson. Lil looked good, but she doesn't seem to have the power in her voice to tackle something like Tina Turner or Celine Dion. I was even thinking during her performance tonight that she doesn't have nearly the vocal power that Syesha had, but Lil still has a good voice if she can find the right song. But poor Scott, those high notes were his undoing. He seemed to be okay when he kept it at a mid-level. I really had been hoping he'd improve so that it could be shown that he was there for his singing ability and not because of the sympathy vote, but I think it's time for Scott to go. I'm going to say that the bottom 3 are Anoop, Matt and Scott with Scott going...but I don't think they're going to use the save on him.

I just can't figure out what it is about this season that I can't get behind it. Although Adam impressed me and I like Danny, I don't say, "I will buy that CD when it comes out." Usually I say that about someone during a season. I'm waiting for Michael, Brooke, and Jason's CDs and hear Chekezie has one on the way as well. And of course I have DC's and admit to having Archie's as well for my six year old (its fine though!).
I sometimes feel that because they had a great season last year, that the judges and producers are really trying to convince us that this year is just as dramatic and filled with all the talent from last year. That's what the standing ovation might be about and Paula's seemingly need to say that Adam is better than anyone who ever walked the Idol stage. Again, not saying Adam is not very talented and does change it up every week like no one else this season, but its not like its the first time! The problem is, they are creating the drama where waiting to get to the final two was drama enough last year. For lack of a better term, the way things unfolded was organic and not manufactured (Tatiana/Bikini girl/Norman). I love that after four tries, Chekezie made it to the Top 10. Where are those kinds of stories? Adam is head and shoulders above everyone else, but I don't feel the heart. I really only get that from some of them, sometimes. There is a lot of inconsistency. I feel that last year, lots of them were very open with their emotions and we knew them. Even if it was not great, I always felt Brooke with every performance. And David goes without saying.
Maybe its like if you have a really great relationship and it ends, its sad, but you remember it fondly and with love. Now you are looking again to feel that way in your new relationship, but it will never be the same. The "spark" just isn't there. You want to, the new relationship is trying to impress, but its not like the first. Well, that's my analogy for the day! I have to say though, I felt this way about Seasons 3 and 6 because I liked so many people in Seasons 2 and 5, but because I LOVED Season 7, this is even more so.

I agree with everyone who's saying that this season is lacking something -- heart, emotion, a connection with the audience, something. While I like several of the contestants, I'm not emotionally invested in any of them. Even last year with me being all super crazy over DC, I still felt like I was connecting with Michael, Brooke, Carly and Jason and wanted to see what they were going to do every week, wanted to root for them to do well and felt bad when Simon criticized them. But I don't feel that kind of connection this year. I really want to be gung ho over Danny, but he hasn't quite lived up to my expectations. Adam is great and talented and I think he'll have a great career in music and/or Broadway, but I don't see myself buying his CD.
Also the production of the show has had a weird feel to it this year. The pacing or something is all wrong. I think having Kara has really messed things up. I know early in the show last night I was like "why are the judges droning on and on so much and wasting so much time?" (I really thought they beat up on Lil way too long.) And then, of course, they ran long and Matt's comments were rushed and Adam didn't get any at all.
So, I don't know, dawg, things are just weird this season.

Agreed on just about everything. There is something missing this season and it is the connection between the contestants and the audience! I don't really have any interest in them like I did last year. I do think that Adam is amazing though. He is far above the others in his talent and originality(though he can't compare to our DC). I originally picked Danny to wi, but now I think Adam may give him a run for his money. Hopefully they will give him additional critiques on tonight's show-he deserves the praise!

Yeah, ^this. I cannot compare this season to any other than last year's because I was never a fan of Idol before, but these contestants just leave me cold whereas last year I was riveted to my television (and not just to watch Cookie, although he was the main reason). My favorite contestants this season are Allison and Matt but I think Allison for whatever reason is not connecting to the audience and Matt needs to get a grip on his nerves because they are his undoing.
Still, while I like some performances this season I'm not remotely tempted to go to iTunes and buy any singles (unlike last year where Cookie made me suck up my hatred of iTunes and actually open an account so I could download him), I guess I'm just not connecting with these kids. I think a lot of my apathy toward this season's contestants doesn't even have to do with the kids themselves, but more toward the judges/show for trying to force-feed me their choices. At this point it all seems very anti-climactic since I feel like the conclusion is already set in stone so going through 6 (or whatever more) weeks of this just seems so fabricated and manipulated. Like someone above posted, there's nothing organic about this season.
As for tonight's results...Lil belongs in the bottom three. I think she's been underperforming for many weeks now, but she seems to sail through each week so I'm sure she won't be in the bottom tonight either. Scott, Kris and Anoop will probably round out the bottom three, but Anoop did a decent job last night and Kris has been fairly consistent (regardless of his off-night yesterday) so I don't think either of them deserves to go before Scott.

Yes I agree. While I have been watching every week I am not feeling the connection with any of them. I love Danny and Adam - but last year I couldn't wait to hear -DAVID, Carly, Michael Johns, David A and Jason. They seem to really connect with each other and with us. Even thru the A/I tour you always found them joking around with each other. I think last week they made a lame attempt to act like they are all getting along, but it looked like it was forced. Adam seems like he is an outcast, I never see him interacting with the other contestants. I have to say.......the boy can sign and I wish him success but IDK

This year really is lacking substance compared to last year. I don't like all the tweaks that have been made especially having the option to save a contestant up until the top 5 and especially when you pile on all of the elimination drama that is being brought to the elimination process each week and yes the judges critiques are taking way too long. The only time I remember the show running over time last year was the finale. I personally think Lil had the worst performance of the night last night. I think this is one of the pitfalls of being so highly pimped from the very beginning and indeed she was. Her audition vid was posted at mj's at least 2 months or so in advance of the show going to air in January. It was kind of like she was being pegged as the one to watch so to speak up until country week and from then on she has just gone into a free fall performance wise. I think the judges are possibly wanting to use the save on the contestant that they think will have some marketability potential that could possibly have a successful career outside of AI once this season is over with. I don't think Lil will be in the bottom 3 tonight but I think she should be. My bets are on Scott, Anoop, and Kris and whether the save is used or not will depend on whether or not Kris has the lowest number of votes but even then there is no guarantee they would save him.

I also agree with everything said here. I don't see myself at this time, buying anyones cd. The record business is tough now and I don't see anyone of these people selling alot and appealing to the masses.

I hope some of the Idol production team take a look at these posts...they could learn something. Everyone is right on! The 'excitement' this year--from Ryan's overly drawn out, "THIS... is American Idol"--to the overlong judges comments are not working. And everything just seems fake. I don't mean the contestants are, but the presentation is. The more I see this year the more I appreciate last year and not just because it gave us David, but this year is so tacky. I predict the final two will be Allison and Adam and that should be mildly interesting because she is so authentic and true to herself, and Adam, as good as he is, is all over the place. Who the heck is he really? Maybe he is trying too hard to be versatile and not reveal his true self. Scott, a sweet guy, was really terrible last night and I'm sure will go home, and Lil, while she certainly didn't deserve the long beating the critics gave her, has yet to even come close to a Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson. It just all seems lame to me, so I just go back and watch David's AI performances. Unlike this year, the judges didn't have to tell him to be original, he came out and just did it because he has the instincts and talent of a true artist. He is head and shoulders above everyone this season.

Food for thought...
Maybe we should stop trying to compare season 8 to season 7, (because season 7 was so exceptional), but instead go back and try to compare season 8 to some previous seasons. Like say -- season 5, when the only real talent was Chris Daughtry and Taylor Hicks ends up winning? Season 4 -- it was Carrie and Bo all the way....LaToya London and Jennifer Hudson were way better matchups for Fantasia in the final three season 3 than Diana DiGarmo and Jasmine Trias....
I never really got emotionally invested in any other season, just watched it for the entertainment value mainly...so this season is pretty much the same level of connectedness for me as 2-6 (I missed season 1).
Take season 7 out of the picture, and season 8 talent holds up pretty well.

You've got a very good point. Season 7 was PHENOMENAL. There is NO WAY that any season could ever live up to what we saw last year. The thing is, it's harder to compare this season to previous seasons because season 7 is so fresh in our minds.
I've only been watching since Season 5, but even then I can't really remember much except for Chris. I can barely remember Season 6 at all. So for me personally, the only comparisons I CAN make are season 7 vs. 8.

I'm not trying to compare Season 8 to Season 7 -- I'm comparing it to all seasons of AI which I have watched from Day 1 and I can't remember being this uninvested in anything or anyone, and that includes Season 3, my least favorite season. I had no particular favorites in Season 6, yet managed to enjoy it as a whole. This year there just seems to be something lacking. Maybe Nigel was more important to the show than we thought.

I think that part of the problem is we just don't know these singers. Last season I felt we knew Michael, Carly, Jason, Syesha, little David and our sweet David. I just don't think we have gotten to know who they really, really are. They are talented, as much as anyone we've seen, but there are times when I almost think they are robots. They are holding something back, maybe? Or is it the way they are being presented? We became Word Nerds, the Archuleta fans became Archangels......but what is going on with these contestants?
And I just don't think they have chemistry with each other - something that was apparent early on in Season 7.

Bottom three: Lil, Anoop, Scott, and Scott is voted off but is saved by the save.
OK I
almost had it right. They really did agonize over the save tonight, more than at any point so far. As soon as they said it was two and two I knew they wouldn't use it, it has to be unanimous, doesn't it?
Only 30,000 separated them, that was close. Anoop's going next, unless someone self-destructs.

I absolutely agree that its really not fair to compare Season to Season. Good point!
I do want to defend poor Season 5 since I really loved it. First, I really loved and still love Elliot Yamin. He has lots of heart and the story of him and his closeness to his dear, late Mom was so sweet and touching. I really wanted him to win although I didn't think it was possible. I think Taylor is much maligned, but when it looked like he was going to make the finals, this is why I wanted him to win. Simon didn't want him to go through to Hollywood and he didn't want him in the Top 24. Even though I think he is a good entertainer, just that alone was why I wanted him to win. It was a good underdog story. Maybe not underdog, but its along the lines of the guy who goes to support his brother and ends up winning the whole thing. Who would have thunk it at Omaha? For Taylor he was never going to be a Carrie or Kelly, but he is a consistently working artist who probably would not have the opportunities he has had without that show.
So, TOTALLY NOT comparing Taylor or S5 to David and S7 AT ALL! Of course not, but I liked the heart of that Season and that the unexpected happened. That's not manufactured drama. It's real. So maybe I did just compare this season to the others. Oooops!
Just my two cents!

Point taken, I forgot about Elliot. I guess my point is that for whatever reason, I never got overly invested in any other season to the same extent that I did in season 7, so for me, if you went from season 2-6 to season 8, I feel this season holds up about the same, more or less the same entertainment value, some great singers and real stories, some manufactured drama and hype. And maybe one good thing that's come out of the years of experience, America seems to be getting a little bit more savvy -- I think the top 7 they have now (with maybe the exception of missing Alexis Grace) is pretty much the best of the bunch this year...
Now I hope I don't offend, but can anybody please explain what people see in Kelly Pickler? (I won't be snarky and state the obvious!)

I agree with you about the investment in Season 7 over the other ones. About Kelly Pickler-she's very cute and personalble and I think she found her niche. Not to put down anyone who made it in country, but its been far easier for Idol alums to make it there than in the Pop world which is more inclusive, but has more competition due to crossover.
Bucky Covington, Phil Stacey, Kelly, and of course Carrie who is very talented, but took off like a rocket because that community just embraced her wildly. She's the Queen of all theings country in such a relatively short period of time. I think its just a much more welcoming bunch. That would explain Kelly. And getting on a tour and being BFFs w/ Taylor Swift doesn't hurt!

I still hate that Jesse Langseth and Felicia Barton didn't make it through. I'd have happily traded Megan and Lil for those two since I don't care for either of them and neither lived up to the judges' hype, IMO.
I didn't watch AI before last season so I don't know how Kellie Pickler was when she was on the show, but she sure is bubbly and cute, lol. Not always easy on the ears but she's fun to watch and seems like the sweetest little thing.

Kellie Pickler wasn't amazing during her run on Idol, but she has made it and came a long way from where she was, so good for her. If she's happy and successful, that's really all you can ask for.
I agree with everyone's points that we seemed to know the contestants from previous seasons better. I think it was because of their selection of the top 12. We would see them every week of the top 24 and hear stories about them. We knew by the 2nd week of the top 24 that David was a Word Nerd, the Archies became attached to Archuletta, everyone felt a certain amount of attachment to the contestants. This season, they performed once and that was it. We heard no more about them until top 13. I have to say that I loved season 5, my second favorite season behind season 7. Though I did stop watching when Daughtry got voted off...
Anyway... I liked Scott's voice, but it was his time. He made it far and people will remember him. I think he knew he was going to go home and just performed and had fun. I think Anoop might be the next to go. Then Lil or Matt might be in danger. I think they would use the save on either of them if it's still there to use. Lil started as one of my favorites, but she just hasn't done anything overly amazing since the top 13 started. I only saw part of Adam's performance. The part I saw was alright, I'm still trying to figure out the standing ovation though. If he had one at all, I thought it would be during Motown week, I thought that performance was much better.

Season 5 was great in that it had Daughtry and Elliot Yamin. Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks left me cold. Really thought Melinda Doolittle was the best of season 6, although Jordin is great. I never got what everyone saw in Blake Lewis-just a one-note performer. Season 7 in a class by itself-especially because of David, but the others were grest as well. I just don't picture mysef DVRing season 8 if they replay it on the Fox Reality Channel. I am rooting for Adam and Danny but I just don't have the same emotional tie to them that I did last season.

I am not comparing the seasons as Season 7 was the only one I watched religiously. The other seasons never grabbed me either.Maybe I never gave them a chance. I would hardly classify myself as an Idol fan.
After last year I expected to enjoy it this year maybe not love it as I did last year. However, I am not enjoying it at all. The judges are obviously pushing Lambert and hard. It is embarassing to the show, it is so obvious
Kara brings no entertainment value to the table. The others have their place, Paula all dingy and sensitive, Simon the Nasty and Randi "dawg".
Time to go back to the drawing board

TOTALLY agree with what everyone has said about not connnecting with the contestants this season/etc etc. And maybe we DO miss Nigel more than we thought we would?? I dunno.....
Agree that it was probably time for Scott to go, but I DO hope this exposure will help him to do something good musically in his future. I think he is a great guy and as a singer/piano player is good..was REALLY good when he did the Billy Joel song last week.
Still just not TOTALLY feeling anyone, except I do have to say i like Matt when he does his blues/R and B. i think he is my fave this season.
