Full Version: Why David Is A Rebel
David Cook > David Cook > All About David Cook

I posted this earlier but for some strange reason it disappeared.

David Cook has the nerve, the courage, the audacity to make himself completely vulnerable, to show us his emotional nakedness, to let us see more of his soul than even some of our closest friends or family members may let us see. While it might have made us a tad uncomfortable at first because we weren't used to this sort of thing, we were held rapt because, well, because it fascinated us and made us want to be the same way. There's something compelling about someone so unafraid to be completely human, so human he seems to transcend humanness itself. David compares it to "taking off your clothes in church."

I quote NormantheCat from her blog entry when she observed it's as if he's saying to us, "I'll show you mine if you show me yours." In being so naked, David has encouraged us to take off our clothes too, and dammit, being naked feels GOOD!

It's a very rebellious message, actually. Especially in a culture that values hiding one's true feelings, especially if you're male.

Yay! Helio you are right on again---this is one of the MANY things I fell in love with David for--his ability to be himself and show himself --he is not a fake a** Holiweird person at ALL and I think we could learn from this--just be yourself! Thanks!
what a gift
MANNNNN I love this!!!!!

..Heliotrope, I am new here and this is the second post of yours I have stumbled across and both have really HIT IT right on the head for me!!!!!
..the things you said in the "Fairy Tale" post.. well I made a large reply there to let ya know how I felt, LOL smile.gif
..and then running across this one! ..
YES, this is exactly it!!!!! ..what many unfortunately mistook for 'arrogance, smugness', etc, in the beginning, was NEVER either of those things in the LEAST...
..David is just DAVID.. ..it's as if he really *gets* it, really gets life, really *gets* that every single second of every single day is just SO Precious-- really TREASURES and VALUES it all.. it does not occur to him in the least to try and 'pretend'.. try and be ANYthing he is not, try and put on this 'persona' of what people out there think a person competing on a TV talent show should be like.. to him it would be a complete waste of Precious and valuable time, and an insult to who created life and this beautiful place, to act unauthentic in any way, to act any other way that what he *IS*... regardless of whether it's sitting at home chatting with friends/family, or standing on a TV stage being beamed out to millions...

..those out there that perceived any of this as 'arrogance/smugness' just plain don't get it.. they really don't.. and part of me feels sorry for them for that..

..thank you Heliotrope!! smile.gif

I really really enjoy reading all your posts. Thank you,

I love it that he is so honest about his feelings. I recall a portion of one of the Idol recap shows...may have been Idol Tonight...where they were interviewing one of the stylists on the show...he said that David Cook was a guy who was very comfortable in his own skin. I totally agreed with that statement then and still do.

He seems to be not all that embarassed by his feelings...in fact he accepts them as part of who he is. He even communicates them to us through his music. There is no artificial persona trying to be displayed just for image sake...he is totally true to himself and pure David Cook.

It is amazing that in today's world he was not taught or conditioned as a male to hide his feelings and "be a man". I believe that a man that can express his feelings this way ...showing himself as a loving and caring person...is much more appealing than one that doesn't . His mom did an excellent job at raising a special human being and I applaud her.

David, thanks for bringing something different to the table, "taking off your clothes", and sharing your soul with us.

Thank you for this post, Heliotrope. This is why I have a deep respect and admiration for him. It's very refreshing to see a MALE public figure being so open with his feelings. It makes us guys think that it's ok to be like that, and still retain our masculinity. I'm not saying that he's perfect, human as he is, but he embodies values and traits which I would like to have in order to become a better guy... and a better person. smile.gif

that's awesome the way David can show his feelings. I respect him so much for that.

don't mistake the "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" thing - that's not what he was saying. But what he was saying, which is very mature, very articulate, very deep, is that indeed, it was his raw emotions he stands by.

You know, when the ex First Lady of the President of the US votes for him - AND he is invited to sing a song for her at Carnegie Hall - well, HOT DAMN! There's just gotta be something to this young chap!! She even said that he got more votes then she did, which was such a cute quip, and that "she didn't mind it". Totally awesome, really.

He does indeed, stir all of us up with him uncommonly sweetness. I sure hope this isn't some rue and one day we'll all wake up because he decided to not give a crap about things. He's vulnerable but wants to prove to his fans, his audience that he can do this, he can make a difference and that it's important, somehow, someway. And hot diggity, if he just isn't the sexiest dude that you want to be your friend and protect him sorta. I feel that way anyhow.

But alas - my naked truth comes out - I just really hate those boots.
