Even though I know who makes the top 24 (and wins) I was still get nervous and get excited. It is like watching for the first time. I kept looking at David while the others were performing, especially during the girls. I can't believe how critical Simon was of the girls that week. He was very mean. He must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed that day. I can't wait for tonight performances.

I really enjoyed watching this last night... I don't think I caught it the first time around. I downloaded HT off of itunes, but never actually saw David perform it. He really did have that stage presence even then. I loved Randy's comment about how he envisioned Alice in Chains... really foreshadows the MITB cover, huh? And Simon definitely was in a bad mood that night, didn't have much good to say about anybody that night. Any hesitatation I had about watching AI season 8 has been erased, I really do enjoy these shows, I'll be watching. As we've all said before, nobody will replace David for us, but it's really fun to watch the performances, even if some of the comments are cringe-inducing, these kids are really putting themselves out there - so brave - I'm really impressed by them all.

I also found myself watching for glimpses of David sitting on the sidelines during the girls' performances. Most of the time, though, he just sat there with his arms crossed.
I will say this about Archie, though: I enjoyed his "Shop Around" performance. He actually kept his eyes open and he moved around a bit, and engaged the audience. But I think he lost a bit of that showmanship, and confidence, as the show went on and he was under more and more pressure each week.
I remember that first night I voted for David Hernandez, David Archuleta, David Cook, Chikezie, and Michael Johns, and got in about 5 or 6 votes per guy. And I thought that was a lot! I don't remember what I did for the girls. I remember that the only one who I liked from the auditions and Hollywood week was Ramielle.
But poor Garrett -- the way Ryan said, "Hey Garrett, having a good time? Well guess what, you're going home!" And then bringing Kristy up and saying, "Well, you're lucky because Amy over there is the one going home." It didn't really make much sense. Like later on when Michael goes and Ryan says, "Remember last year when we didn't let anyone go during Idol Gives Back Week? Well we're not doing that this year, you're going home." That was just so poorly done.
The 60s group number, like most group numbers, was just so cheese-tastic, but David's glory note at the end was great. Glad they saw David's potential to belt out those notes even back then. I went through YT a few weeks ago watching all the group numbers in order just to watch David's moves, and they are all pretty hysterical.

Yeah, I remember saying to my friends that "I like all the Davids." I also liked Ramielle early on but she just lost something as the show progressed. I always liked Carly, felt that Simon was way too hard on her, and felt like she never really found her niche after she sang Come Together. That was her best performance.
But poor Garrett -- the way Ryan said, "Hey Garrett, having a good time? Well guess what, you're going home!" I heard that Nigel Lythgoe (the producer that quit AI after season 7) was responsible for the Idol Gives Back line directed at Michael Johns. Hopefully since he's gone, there won't be anymore of those mean tricks. And speaking of mean, Simon really needs to tone it down. Yeah, he's pretty spot on, but he doesn't have to be cruel like calling Kady Malloy a pencil and telling that poor kid Colton to find a job because he'll never make it in the music business.

I thought the same thing about Cook's glory note!! That really made him stand out in the whole corny 60's montage.

Yep - here's the synopsis for the top 10 boys:
Songs performed: Michael Johns -- "Go Your Own Way" Jason Castro -- "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" Luke Menard -- "Killer Queen" Robbie Carrico -- "Hot Blooded" Danny Noriega -- "Superstar" David Hernandez -- "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" Jason Yeager -- "Long Train Running" Chikezie Eze -- "I Believe" David Cook -- "All Right Now" David Archuleta -- "Imagine"Looks like that will be the order performed.
The top 10 girls:
Songs performed: Carly Smithson -- "Crazy on You"; Syesha Mercado -- "Me and Mrs. Jones"; Brooke White -- "You're So Vain"; Ramiele Malubay -- "Don't Leave Me This Way"; Kristy Lee Cook -- "You're No Good"; Amanda Overmyer -- "Carry On My Wayward Son"; Alaina Whitaker -- "Hopelessly Devoted"; Alexandrea Lushington -- "If You Leave Me Now"; Kady Malloy -- "Magic Man"; and Asia'h Epperson -- "All By Myself"I don't think I saw these shows last February, so it will be fun.
BTW, I am recording these on DVD... I didn't record all the auditions - only DC's. And only have DC's Hollywood week ("Everything You Do" and then when he is told that he made the top 24 - didn't catch the dancing at the end of the show though.) Have the complete shows for top 12 boys/girls/results. Not HQ recording, but not bad. I'll let you guys know if I successfully get a full set of the rest of the season recorded.

Just finished watching the top 12 girls (watched the guys last night), and the results show. I still found myself paying more attention to what David was doing and how he was reacting than the actual performances. LOL
Noticed he sat a lot with his arms folded just watching....probably sizing up the competition, ha, ha (there wasn't any!). Loved his note at the end of the group number...harbinger of wonderful things to come...little did we know the impact this man would have on us!
Really hated the way they did the eliminations. I thought it was really cruel. Also, Simon was sure negative and snarky!
Biggest surprise I had forgotten about: Ramiele. She really sounded great early on. I wonder what happened?
Loved Carly from the get-go.
Anyway, can't wait for tonight and "All Right Now." This song is where I really became a Cook fan...totally mesmerized.

I'd like to ask a favor then... if any one of y'all could record and save all these episodes onto an HQ DVD and send it to me...I would be willing to pay a reasonable price for your troubles..... although this would probably constitute as a pleasure since the subject matter is no such hardship..... pretty please???? anyone??? thanks...
aNr, I'm making DVDs for a bunch of peeps over at DCO (for small donations to charity, which someone earlier on this thread suggested too) so it would be no trouble to make more for the peeps here too.
But if Grace (ODCD) wants to make some for you, I don't want to steal her thunder!

Mine aren't what I would classify as HQ either but I do have digital cable so the picture's not bad, by any means.

It is very interstesting to watch the show again. During the top 12 guys last night, I spotted Andrew and Beth right off. I also noticed they played musical chairs through out the night.
It's amazing how a hair cut can change a personal persons phyical appearance. I remember seeing David in the top 24 and throught he was really good musically but the look was very outdated. I remembering thinking to myself that AI will transform his and look and dang, all he needed was a hair cut and that was it.
I liked the one girl from Joplin, MO, the one whose fathered died just before the tryouts. I remembered I liked her so much more than Syesha.

Maybe between the two of us we'll have a comprehensive set for the season.

I am recording for my own enjoyment. I had suggested that someone could sell set with proceeds going to charity, but didn't see any responses on this thread. But if someone can't get a higher quality or more professionally put together version, I might be persuaded to make a copy of mine. Let's see how well I do at getting it all recorded first, though.

So far two of the girls have sung songs that one of the boys covered. Brooke did Happy Together and another girl, already forgot her name, did the one that Chikezie did. Interesting.
Is it bad that much of my attention is on the sidelines looking at David's expression as he watches the girls' performances? LOL
No Tee, not bad at all, I'm doing the same thing!
Just got back from a family party, so this is the first chance I've had to post all day. Noticed pretty much all the same things as you guys (leg-tapping, glory note, etc).
After they showed replays and he said we're going to Hollywood, they let the clip run on a little longer, and he said "Come on Mom!" It was cute.
Did you catch at the very end when Colton was singing his sendoff and they panned to the guys, they spent a lot of time on Danny crying, but one show was of Chikezie, Luke and David. Chikezie and Luke were definely teary-eyed, but David you could see the tear on his cheek -- his emotions started showing way back then...
So far I'm only putting David's bits on my DVD. Trying to decide what from the results show last night should go on. I'm thinking the group number because he does have that glory note, but that's really all there is. What do you all think?
OK off to watch top 20... check in with you all later.

I know! It's so nice to see this on my TV again instead of on a tiny you tube screen. I think this performance is where he actually caught my attention. And he does have the scruff working. From David's face when Ryan was reading out the numbers I think he kinda was worried he'd said too much even though what he said wasn't that bad.
Here's Archie with Imagine. I forgot about that video of him singing to Kelly.

I remember seeing that last night but it was so quick I thought I was mistaken. Such a sensitive guy

Ok, so I'm going to be possibly "controversial", but I can wholeheartedly say that even had I seen the show from the start of the season, I would never have become an Archie fan. I have never particularly cared for his renditions of the songs and these past two performances I've seen have done nothing to change my mind. I know everyone has always raved about Imagine but I still do not care for his take on it. Doesn't mean I don't like the kid (so no stones any Archie fans) but while I can recognize he has talent, I'm just not destined to be a fan. But I can't believe the kind of screaming and hoopla he got so early on, wow. He could give boy bands a run for their money, lol.

Archie has an incredible voice, but his type of music just isn't what I like. Nobody does "Imagine" like John Lennon. All the runs and such detract from the purity of the song IMO.

My DVR froze while Danny was being critiqued. By the time it rebooted, Chickezie was being critiqued, so I missed David H., Jason Y., and Chikezie. Were any of those good enough that I should try to find someone who recorded it and get a copy? Were there any special David C. moments while those guys were singing?
Both
David H. and
Chikezie had strong performances that week. I found the clips on YT so you can decide for yourself if you want a recorded copy of it.
These eliminations are so hard to watch, even this early on when you don't have as much invested in these kids. I wish the camera people would've given Archie some privacy, the poor guy was crying when they eliminated Alexandrea and they kept cutting away to him.

I think David was sparring with Simon, you could see it after the 2nd Hollywood audition song and then of course tonight, mainly because Simon seems to like it when it's coming from someone he likes (like Brooke). Simon wasn't cookified yet, so to him it was just another irritating kid. I'm glad David's explanation was televised as well, maybe they cleared the air after that since you didn't see it any more the rest of the season.
Tee, I disagree with you, I could definitely see at this point why Archie was the front runner, he really does have a beautiful voice. It wasn't until quite a few more weeks that it became a little more obvious that he was pretty one-dimensional. But I do agree with you that teeny-bopper pop is not my style either (and apparently not my teenage daughter either, as much as she wants to squeeze David and pinch his cheeks cos he's so cute, she still doesn't want to buy his record

)
I knew David threw the guitar picks, but I never saw before tonight that he had a couple of them on his mic stand, just like in his shows.
And yes, I thought it was sweet that David was the first one out to give Jason a hug.

And wouldn't it be boring if we all thought the same? LOL, different strokes for different folks and all that

While he does have a nice voice, besides it not being in my style, I get very distracted by the audible breathing throughout (there was a Kelly Clarkson song on the radio several years ago where it was similarly so noticeable to me that I found it distracting). But for the record, there are many voices that while I can appreciate what others like about it, I'm indifferent toward myself (Josh Groban and Celine Dion come quickly to mind).
Had I watched AI7 from the beginning, in terms of my musical tastes, I'd still have have been cheering for my original three favorites: DC, Michael, and Carly. In terms of whose personality made me want to cheer for them, Jason, Brooke and Archie could be added to that list.
Looking forward to seeing the non-YT, full tv screen version of Hello tonight.

Ryan stated that David had a electric guitar problem. I am wondering maybe he wasn't feeling well then or do I have the wrong performance?
I can also see why David Archuletta was a favorite at the beginning with the judges. Not all his songs are my type of music either but I thought imagine was beautifully done.

I am really enjoying rewatching this season and reliving my love for DC. I love the fact that he stood up to Simon, but I was afraid for him when I saw this in real time (lol)
....Now I can say...
"Who has the friggin' charisma now, Simon???!!!"
When they labeled Archie the front runner, it kinda pissed me off. Cause I didn't prefer Archie ( I can appreciate his talent, but he doesn't float my boat, I am a rocker at heart). This labeling of him as "the one" from the beginning made me more determined to vote for others excessively...at this point in the competition my faves were Cook, Meynard and Johns.
And then when he sang "Hello", it was "HELL-yesIamonlyvotingforonepersonnow-O"
My girlfriend would always split her votes and couldn't understand why I wouldn't do that at this point in the competition, and I kept telling her that I didn't want to waste my votes on anyone else. David Cook was it.

Personally, I don't get all the "let's celebrate with so-and-so on reaching xxxx posts".
Now, back to the topic of this thread... I am so looking forward to "Hello" tonight on the big screen! "All Right Now" is probably my favorite DC AI performance. I loved the rock star strutting he did. But it was also around that time that he was getting the "smug and pompous" criticisms, not only from Simon, but in the press and on the messageboards, and notice that he toned down the strutting and preening after that. I remember posting on the board here back during the original run of the show that I hoped we would see that strutting again once he went on the Idol Live tour -- and, boy, did we! We even got a few back bends!!
I frequently watch ARN on YT, but I always cut it off before the Simon part because I still cringe and hurt for David because of that exchange which Simon so misunderstood. I've noticed during these repeats that Simon frequently turns to Paula and says, "What did he say?" when Ryan makes quips, and even some of the contestants. I think Simon can't hear well on the stage or something -- which makes me wonder if he can even hear the performances. Watching it last night, it was so heartbreaking to look at David's crestfallen face when Ryan was giving out the phone number, like he was so afraid he had blown it.
But, even David has said that from that exchange with Simon that he learned to just stand there and nod and say "thank you" when the judges were talking, and not talk back. There is a "game" component to AI, sort of like "Survivor" or "Amazing Race." You've got to look at strategies and try to get a leg up on the competition, and that, of course, is what led to David's winning (aside from his brilliant performances and fantastic talent, of course.)
I also thought it was interesting that Randy and Simon kept telling Robbie Carrico that he wasn't authentic as a rocker. I don't know, I thought he looked and sounded like a rocker, just not as powerful and
charismatic as David. But notice how even early on, the judges considered David THE rock guy for season 7!
ARN was also the week that David became my front runner. I still loved Michael and was voting for him too, but David's performance outshone everyone, even my hot Aussie. See, at this point I still thought Michael was the better looking of the two -- David didn't win me over in the looks department until this moment:

So we've got "Hello" tonight, and I remember that night when Ryan said DC was going to do "Hello," at first I couldn't even think of what that song was. But, of course, once he started singing, I'm like, "WHAT??!!" But as we all know it was fabulous. And how great were the performances of "Hello" during the Idol tour?!! ("I LOVE YEEEEEEWWWWW!!!!")
I read somewhere that David said that he and some friends in high school (I'm guessing his Axium buddies) used to fool around with "Hello," thinking that it would be funny to turn it into an emo power ballad. So when he saw the suggested song list that week, "Hello" jumped right out at him and he just knew he had to do it! As we now know, the man had a brilliant instinct for picking the right songs and the right arrangements.
So then I think it's "Eleanor Rigby" tomorrow night? (That's when I joined d-c.org.) Then "Daytripper" and then "Billie Jean" on Thursday? I neeeeeeeed to get
that back on the DVR!!! The night he sang "Billie Jean," after the show was over I rewound it to make my husband watch the most spectacularly wonderful AI performance by anyone ever...
and then accidentally deleted it!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I was crushed.

Tonight is the night. He had me at "HELLO". I can't wait!!!
I am loving this re-broadcast. Last night when Archie sang Imagine, it was amazing. I am always looking for DC while the others are performing. I did see him singing along with MJ last night. I also noticed that when Jason Y. was eliminate he was the first one to give him a hug.

^^ Yeah, after Hello was when I started telling my watercooler buddies "I'm starting to like this David Cook fellow". They just focused on the hair (don't worry, the stylist will give him a makeover at some point). But I too thought MJ was cuter...
I think your schedule is right, Eleanor Rigby then Daytripper then BJ on Thursday.

I am so enjoying the repeat of season 7. I had a really busy weekend, so it was great to sit down and
just watch something that made me so happy. I do notice that David looks more nervous and less confident in the beginning. So far the camera has not concentrated on him very much. It's amazing to watch him progress and it's even better when you know there is such a positive outcome! Cannot wait to watch tonight. What a great idea Fox had to
rerun season 7.

Has Fox re-run any other idol seasons? I don't remember any but, of course, I wasn't really paying attention until David.

IMO, it's not the quantity of posts, but the quality that is more important. Personally, I don't get all the "let's celebrate with so-and-so on reaching xxxx posts".
ODCD,
I agree with you about the quality versus the quantity of posts. I was not celebrating, just making an observation. I always try to post things that are relevant, not just posting for posting's sake.

Please don't throw any fruit at me... or... at least remove it from the cans before aiming but I felt so bad for David while Ryan was giving out the numbers because I think that's when David realized that maybe he shouldn't have talked back to Simon...And, to make matters worse, the crowd started applauding when Archie showed up on the balcony. David looked up and then looked down feeling so dejected. I cried buckets.
