OK, this may be a stupid question because I never followed any of these polls or surveys, but how can his Innocent performance be ranked #6 for the Top 8? That would have put him in the bottom three and that didn't happen correct? Or was that one of those "these may not be your actual bottom three but one goes home tonight" things? I admit that I didn't watch results shows because they made me too nervous. I watched the last few weeks, but not during the season or any other season for that matter. Any thoughts?
Jessica

I thought that too when I saw the ranking for Innocent cuz as we know he wasn't in the bottom 3 at all. But I think Dial Idol is just a guesstimate based on the busy signals of each contestant. It's nothing definite.

Am I the only one who didn't know about Dial Idol last season?? Would have eased a lot of my angst had I known David was doing so well. So, with Dial Idol, do you think David and David, the judges, etc., knew who was going to win before the announcement? Somehow that spoils the fun.

I didn't know about it until the season was over so u aren't the only one. I don't think I'll look at it this coming season. It ruins all the fun of stressing out on results night lol

And based on everyones reaction I don't think they knew who was going to win. Cook has said numerous times he thought Archie was going to take it and u can tell by his reaction how shocked he was.

I never heard of it either until after the show was over.

Has dialidol ever been wrong? If I were David, judges, anyone, I wouldn't put complete faith in anything like that. And I agree, it spoils the fun, I probably would not have visited the site even if I knew about it, and I don't think I will be doing so this year eiether.

I learned about dialidol near the end of last season. I voted like a mad-woman for four hours that last night of voting. AND... I periodically checked dialidol, and checked it again in the morning. Cook was the predicted winner. Yet I was still on pins and needles watching the finale and waiting for the winner to be announced. I guess I wasn't sure how accurate dialidol was.
willow
Dial Idol did show David winning, but Dial Idol is only a sampling of the voters who wish to participate in Dial Idol and not necessarily a representative sample of all AI voters, some of whom are more motivated than others. The other thing DI doesn't take into consideration is the Text Votes. There was no way to know how many text votes were coming in, and it was commonly understood that the Archies texted more than the Cook fans -- but could the Archies text in more votes than the Cook fans called in? That was the main question. I did in-depth Dial Idol analysis that whole night (we held an Election Night Returns kind of live post vigil here until dawn!!) and kept cautioning everyone that while the DI numbers looked good, we were just going to have to wait and see since text votes are the wildcard.

The only time last season that Dial Idol was ever wrong about anything was the night KLC was voted off. They had had her safe. DI also doesn't predict the exact person going home every week, just the people who are likely to be voted off, based on their margin of error (DI makes its predictions based on the percentage of busy signals a contestant gets on the premise that more busy signals means more people are calling.) Sometimes in the early rounds the margin of error is such that everyone is likely to get voted off. The night Michael got voted off, DI did in fact have him on the "likely" list -- but so was David! In fact, David had a lower DI score than Michael that night. Text votes are probably what saved David then. Or, for the conspiracy theorists, the producers sacrificed Michael in order to save David.

But keep in mind that Dial Idol's "Bottom 3" isn't necessarily the show's "Bottom 3" due to the unknown text vote factor (and, again for the conspiracy folk, what the producers want.)

David took the lead in DI, either alone or tied, the last 7 weeks in a row, so the inclination that he was going to win was there for a while. For Jordin, she was in first place alone or tied for the last 5 weeks of her season. For Taylor Hicks, he was in the lead every single week of the competition.

BTW, Dial Idol is a dialing program you download and then launch from your computer that automatically dials the number(s) of the contestant(s) you want. It's not the illegal power voting schemes which put in multiple votes at once. DI makes one call at a time just as you would if you kept hitting the speed dial button yourself. At the same time the DI program collects your information (anonymously) as to how many times you get through per particular contestant and how many busy signals you get. They then put it all into their formula to get a Dial Idol score and rank.

So, there, more than you ever wanted to know about Dial Idol! tongue.gif

Ugh! That's right!

Sy was okay, Chikezie absolutely ROCKED, and Rami was so-so.
maywee1956
Awww, I'm watching replay...my Chikezie just sang and they loved him! I love him too, the big ole teddy bear!

David's gonna do Eleanor Rigby tonight...YAY...that's my FAV of his.
annette
I already cheated and watched the DailyMotion vid for tonight for David - I forgot what an awesome night he had with ER. AND looked HAWT in that leather jacket and bandana.

Carly was AWESOME - Mr. Cook is up Woohoo!!!!

Tee
Yay, Cookie's next!

Love Carly's version of Come Together, so awesome. She really let Simon's opinion throughout the season matter so much that in the end I think that it may have undermined her confidence in herself.
maywee1956
oh, how cute!! I love how excited he gets at the end and Simon thinks he could win the whole thing...oh wait, he DID win the whole thing!
Tee
That was phenomenal. And he was sooo stoked, he couldn't stay still, lol

He tapped his heart several times tonight. Was that really a signal to his fans? I read that somewhere (either here or on DCO) only a few months ago.
CookieAddict_24
Cookie rocked! Loved when he threw his arms out! wub.gif

Brooke does a beautiful job on Let it Be. smile.gif

This is my very favorite performance by Brooke, it was so beautiful, her vocals were raw and emotional, love it.

Hi ladies~big Jersey presence here tonight!

Does anyone else remember an interview when David was asked about his favorite AI performance from another contestant, and he said Carly doing Come Together? Where was that interview from??

I put it on mute now, or sometimes I watch the DVR instead of live and fast forward, and tonight I just left the room to come online during the commercials. If I ever hear another "this could be fun" -- yikes! Even the smiling Bob commercials are better than this one!

David was fab of course! I also loved Chikezie, Brooke and Carly this week. David H was not that good, but still better than KLC!

Marie,

Thanks for the lesson on Dialidol. Very informative. I had no idea how it worked. I probably won't follow it this year...I guess I'd rather get a stomachache and bite my nails each week.. wacko.gif huh.gif Actually, last year was the first year (and I have watched them all), that I was so invested in one contestant. David just got to me (and still does)!! Them are big (size 13) shoes to fill.

Cheryl

BTW, I agree with all about KLC's performance of 8 Days A Week. I remember when I saw this last year I thought for sure she would be going home. It was absolutely AWFUL! I thought David Hernandez was much better, but I wonder if the breaking news about his stripper job caused his demise. If I remember correctly, the news hit the media before this performance.
ShandiLovesDC
its sooo cool to be able to see all his performances again! biggrin.gifD haha.
and WOW. i just realized i havent been on here in FOREVER. O.o

One other thing I noticed when I replayed the results show -- the Lindsey Rose bracelet made its appearance this week! (I think he wore it when he sang ER as well, but it was much more noticeable during the cheesey group number.)

Speaking of which, did you notice when they did "Help" they had him in the back four doing boy-band background type stuff? I guess the producers still weren't really ready to showcase him that much. But he's a professional and did what he had to do -- theater background actually shows.
annette
David was awesome in that group number - who says the boy can't dance - he did the side to side just right, lovede the pink gauze shirt/jeans/fedora hat combo, he had the poses just right. The whole night for him was awesome.

I laughed with the horton ears - back then it was the horton ears and he just had "Mickey Mouse" ears on a couple of weeks ago.

ER was magnificant - I felt like I was enjoying his excitement for the first time.

Tonight is "Day Tripper" - Squawk (sp?) Box and all.

Tonight's show is when I discovered David Cook!!! wub.gif Daytripper floored me and made me an instant fan. He had rockstar written all over him on that performance. I remember thinking 'WTF! Is this guy deaf' when Simon said to David "I don't think that was as good as you thought it was" (or something like that). I went home that night and googled David Cook, found MJ's blog (which later led me here) and I've been lost since.

That was cute. I think he did meet "Emily" in Pittsburg at the Venue when the fans were waiting at the buses. I think there is a video somewhere (maybe the folks from Pittsburg would know) of David actually giving her kudos for having the guts to ask him out on live TV.

Yeah, I have been watching the replay of American Idol every night with my 7-year-old daughter, and she keeps asking why I change the channel when this commercial comes on. Now, as soon as she sees that it's that particular commercial, she says, "OK mom, you can change it." It's not exactly appropriate for family viewing ... and AI is family viewing. I'd love to see it taken off during AI.

I know I am really dating myself but Peter Frampton was the first concert I went to. I was a pretty big fan.
Well, Peter sang a song called "Do You Feel Like We Do?" and when he did the squawk/talk box, everyone thought/wished/imagined/hoped he said:
" I want to f*** you"
when supposedly he really said:
"I want to thank you"

Most teenage girls held on to that other version. Actually, when I come to think of it, most guys too.
Well there is a part in Day Tripper where I think/wish/imagine/hope David pays tribute to that,
O.K.,
Yeah.
its probably all in my "Peter Frampton warped" mind, but I can hear David saying it.
And when I first heard David singing on the talk box, I got the biggest smile on my face and changed back into that 14 year old fangirl with the wicked mind.

For your consideration:

Listen at 1:50 to catch Peter singing it.

Now David at 1:25....haha, Is it just my sick mind??

I remember that distinctly too, and what's really funny is that I remember my daughter (who is a big Beatles fan) being upset because "he changed it, that's not the way the song goes!!!" Now of course after listening to a summer's worth of AI studio-versions, she has totally changed her mind and is totally cookified.

(But she still says aaawwww every time Archie comes on!)

You know what's also interesting to me is that over the summer I've replayed many of David's performances quite a bit on youtube, but never really played back anyone else. I'm pleasantly surprised again at how many really good performances there were at this point. You could argue that this early in the competition some of these guys still had as good a shot of winning as David did. (Of course, once he did BJ and MOTN and ABMB, that changed everything laugh.gif)

That is so cool. As soon as David did that with the "voice box" my mind went to Peter Frampton.

Somebody DCO mentioned that when David brought his arms back (spread his wings) that Paul McCartney did somelthing similar - I have to see if Paul's move was captured and it is probably in the TWOP: thread over on DCO somewhere.

I loved Eleanor Rigby I agree I wish it went longer. Amazing job!! I love all the facial expressions and tongue appearances. laugh.gif He is sooo adorable.

I had a hard time watching Archie, being this is the performance he forgot his words. I remember saying that I thought Archie should have sang "Can't Buy Me Love" instead. He sang it well in the group number.

I loved Brooke - beautiful job (favorite performance) and Chikezie - he was having too much fun.
