i love watching the guys dance espically the 2 davids.

Chikezie seems like a nice guy. He did a good job on the Idol tour. At the tour stop I attended, he stayed out the longest signing autographs after the show...smiling the whole time.

Next up is Little Sparrow with the new haircut! wub.gif

And I think Dolly Parton night was Michael's best performance all season....in my opinion.
dream
You know when my husband and I watched Billie Jean for the first time, we missed it when Ryan introduced the song, but I remember getting goosebumps and we looked at each other like, "Whoaaaaaaaaa, that was friggin amazing!" We both agreed that it was the best performance we had heard on AI, ever.
Later when I watched in on Youtube, I caught the Chris Cornell thing, who I knew from his groups, but never had heard his version of this song. I still don't understand the fuss, only that the AI naysayers wanted to diss his performance somehow, because they couldn't put his talent down, they had to rag on him taking someone's version. Seems really stupid.

Showing Billie Jean to my son and bringing up the Chris Cornell thing, got him pretty interested in David. He is away at college and I sent him David's songs...he use to put AI down until I introduced him to Daughtry, so he wasn't as opposed to listen to David, especially with the Chris Cornell connection, that sealed his interest. He is a real fan now...in fact over vacation he was singing DC a lot...made me smile. Both my sons went to a Chris Cornell concert over the summer and the first thing I asked them was if he did Billie Jean...they just rolled their eyes...lol....he didn't btw.

As I am rewatching these, I can now see how David began to stand out (way out) from the pack.
I liked a lot of the singers but they just didn't have what David had...star quality. That's the most succinct way I can describe it. The others lacked performance skills and maturity, not that they didn't have talent, they just didn't know what to do with it at that point. David clearly did.

It really did bug me how Simon picked on Carly, she was my favorite female and I thought Blackbird and Total Eclipse were good, I downloaded them right away. I don't know what his problem was with her.
Yikes. I just felt an earthquake...

Tee,

Count me in as not knowing of who Cornell was until Billie Jean. heh

Me too.

QUOTE (willow @ Jan 8 2009, 08:34 PM) *
Exactly. I had never heard of Chris Cornell -- that's not a slight on his talent or anything, I just hadn't ever heard of him. Later when I heard that he was the lead singer of Audioslave and Soundgarden, well I had heard of those bands and once I heard some of their songs I realized I that had heard them over the years on my local rock station, I just didn't know what they were.

That said, though, I looked at Chris Cornell's version on YT and I didn't like it. It was really slow and growly, almost mumbly. David's version was not quite as slow and while gritty, raw and full of emotion, it was a little more polished. I like David's version better. But as Simon says, it's just an opinion. There was one time on this board where I said I preferred David's version of "Creep" over Radiohead's and I was raked over the coals about not knowing anything about music and that nothing could compare to Radiohead, not even David Cook -- and that came from a DC "fan" on this board. huh.gif Oh, and I had never heard "Creep" before hearing David's version and the person wanted to know if I had been living under a rock since it was the greatest song of the 90's and it was played everywhere. huh.gif

Yeah same here. I went through phases in the 90's where I didn't listen to the radio much, except the for the classic rock stations, or just listened to my cds (I admit mostly Springsteen:) ) . Then hubby and I would make an effort to listen to who was out there and try to catch up with who was current. Discovered Pearl Jam that way. So I knew of Soundgarden, I may have heard of Radiohead, but Creep was definitely not playing on the stations I listened too. I actually heard Radiohead's version for the first time this summer, and recognized it 'cos of David.

QUOTE (Tee @ Jan 8 2009, 09:01 PM) *
Whew! I'm not alone then, lol. And Marie, I must've been sharing that rock with you in the 90's laugh.gif

Was I the only one that thought Carly did well? With the exception of that glory note at the end, I thought her performance was pretty good.

Carly was fine. Syesha was actually fine too. I missed Rami, I'll have to go back and listen but she sounded good on the replay. As much as I liked Chikezie he was definitely the worst tonight.

QUOTE (CookieAddict_24 @ Jan 8 2009, 09:30 PM) *
Wow....wow....goosebumps....awesome....amazing.....I'm so excited I want to call and vote for him lol

Sheesh....no other performance could even touch Billie Jean tonight. (Actually no other performance (except by David himself) could touch this one all season

On a superficial note, I noticed tattoo peakage of the ribbon on his chest tongue.gif

aaah Cookie....no words to describe... I was just amazed all over again. I was pleased to see the bit about them recording the studio version. And I have to say, as much as I loved the performance, the studio version is just thousands of times better.

And of course I noticed the tattoo!!!!!!

QUOTE (Tee @ Jan 8 2009, 09:31 PM) *
David was, as I well remembered, phenomenal!

I didn't follow the online Idol fandom at the time and looking back at BJ now, I'm not sure I understand what the whole "covergate" thing was about - I mean, Ryan clearly said it was Chris Cornell's version of BJ so what was the fuss all about?

ETA: CHEST BUMP FTW!!! Love it! LOL. This was one of the few group performances they all seemed to really have a good time doing.

I think it was mainly because of Randy saying he was the most original contestant on Idol, so it sounded like he was applauding David for the arrangement as well as for the performance. Ryan very clearly said Chris Cornell's version, so it was all just an uproar for nothing. I heard the interview with Chris Cornell, he was totally digging it!

And thanks for the reminder about the chest bump. I was only half watching the group number, and I almost wasn't going to record it to DVD. I had to rewind and watch it again, definitely DVD worthy!

Kim Locke looked great, I haven't followed her career but she was another one from season 2 that I liked quite a bit.

Yeah seriously it was just the beginning of what we all loved to look forward to this past summer! Oh, I shall miss them and their crazy Mavid antics...

After watching Michael John's performance tonight, I can certainly remember myself as soon as the song started, getting up and jumping on my couch being so happy that he picked this song and was rocking it out. Haha. It really was one of his finest moments on the show.

And then watching David perform "Billie Jean" again was just OMG! Thud-worthy all over again! Too hot to handle!

I am a Southern California native, so I have felt a lot of them, but you still don't get used to it, because of their surprise element.

I agree with you. I'm trying to watch with a detached eye to see if there was something I missed the first time around, but it's the same -- David is so far ahead of the pack with his performances. There is an energy that he has that no one else has. I'm also trying to look at Archie's performances with a less jaded eye, but to tell you the truth, I still can't hear what was so spectacular about his voice. He was good, I guess, but for the most part he just stood there. There was no spark or energy, no command of the stage or the audience like David Cook had.

Also for most of the beginning of the season I didn't really like Brooke, Carly or Jason, but by the end, and certainly by the tour I loved them all. Now watching back I'm paying more attention to them and I'm really enjoying their performances more. Michael, of course, I always loved!

So tomorrow night we get the haircut and the beginnings of the scruff! It's amazing what getting a haircut and forgetting to shave can do for a guy! wink.gif

Not dumb, because I'd like to know as well! I've been watching, but I'd love to have a copy. I know some are talking about donations to charity, but I don't know who to contact. And the ebay auction is over, although I was considering seeing if there were more available. I'd prefer it be someone from here though.

I haven't had a chance to comment too much about everything, but I think I'm more impressed this time around with DC! Last spring, threre came a time when I couldn't even hear him anymore because I would get so nervous, so I'm happy to have to opportunity to listen again. I also find that I can't imagine why Carly kept getting so attacked by Simon and eventually left so early. I love her more now that I'm seeing it again. And I have a new repect for Jason. I don't know if it's because I "know" him better now, but I am enjoying him. And, to quote Simon, "it's only and opinion," but I feel even more frustrated that KLC went through ahead of David H, Amanda, Checkize and MJ. I liked God Bless the USA and was actually impressed with her in concert, but she just didn't do it for me. I felt others had a stronger track record even if a particular performance was off.

Of course, my favorite thing is all of the "you could win this thing" comments! I find that all of his exhuberance during these performances is so exciting to see, especially when you know that his hospital trip and all the turmoil with Adam is coming up.

I am enjoying this more than I can say. I keep thinking Michael Johns getting booted so early was a travesty and I would have liked to have seen David H in the top 10. But there is no question that David Cook was far and away the finest singer and performer from early on. I find some of Simon's comments to him truly offensive, especially the "smug" comment. From what we saw and heard of David later on, he is one of sweetest, least smug people I could
ever imagine. I just love watching the reruns. My husband and I are cheering just as we did last year. Knowing the outcome is just the icing on the cake!

I am really enjoying watching it again, but its hitting me how sad I was when it was all over.
Anyone else feel sad? A little bit?

I am getting excited for Season 8, but with trepidation because I can't believe it will be as good as Season 7.

I have watched AI since Season 2, and I have never liked the top 10 as much as I did this last year. (2008)
And Season 7 was the first time that my favorite won!!!

I don't think I ever really got sad, because I got so invested in finding out everything about David the minute the show was over (I never looked on line during the show, if you can believe that!)

I am actually looking forward more to season 8 than I was before this rebroadcast. I have spend the last 6 months replaying all of David's stuff, and other than the tour, I didn't pay any attention to anyone else really. I had forgotten how good some of the other performances are. I think if the judges select decent contestants the same way as they did for the top 24, season 8 could be good. As far as whether there could be anyone as good as David coming out of season 8, who knows, I'm sure the Daughtry fans two years ago would have said no one could have been as good as him! I really do enjoy these reality shows for their own sake, if someone is as good as David, all the more power to them!!!

Your last bit sounds like I could have written it smile.gif Started watching season 2, and David is my first fave who made it all the way through!!!

Just watching MJ on replay right now from last night, he was really good on this, glad to see it. He got kicked off too soon.

I have watched AI since the beginning. We have always enjoyed the show as a family (even my huby even though he wont admit it). I have been to a few AI shows season 1 and season 2 season 3 then of course season 7 (twice). I have never ever felt so strong about a contestant like I do for David Cook. I don't think I can fall that hard again and I don't want to. I am going to keep up with my David Cook and follow him everywhere his career takes him. Cant wait for solo concert.

I am not sure how I feel about season 8 ???

I would love to know how you got tickets to the t.v. show.
I entered a local contest every week but to no avail.

Loving the replays! Glad to see that it wasn't just all the hype of the moment--David ran away with the show from "Hello" on out.

I was thinking about the whole "cover" issue and am still convinced it was just a sour grapes thing. I mean, nobody squawked when Syesha did a Whitney Houston cover of a Dolly Parton song, or Archie did a Stevie Wonder cover of a Lennon-McCartney song. By choosing a more interesting cover rather than playing it straight/Karaoke style just showed how much more savvy and creative David was about his song picks. The difference between just having a good voice and being an artist, IMHO.

I love watching him as he tries to be cool but is actually waiting to jump up and down like a little kid when he gets good feedback. Such a charmer. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall backstage, yes?

I'm trying to match up the shows with when they are supposed to air, and getting a little confused (easy for me to do).

Does anyone know how Fox Reality is airing the last two shows -- (1) the Davids competing and singing their songs (Tuesday, May 20 episode) and (2) the finale show with the results (Wednesday, May 21 episode)?

I've checked the Fox Reality schedule, and it says American Idol 2008 is on at 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 on Tuesday, January 13. If everything starts at 3:00, I have to leave work early!

If anyone knows the details, please let me know.

Also, I noticed that American Idol 2008 is listed on the Fox Reality schedule for Saturday night at 11:30 -- what show is that? Perhaps the Idol Gives Back episode? Threw me for a loop.

This is the remaining schedule per my DirecTV Guide:

Tonight --

8 p.m. 9 Finalists [Little Sparrow]
9 p.m. Results

Sat., 1/10 --

8 p.m. 8 Finalists [Innocent]
9 p.m. Idol Gives Back [2 1/2 hours long]
11:30 p.m. Results [poor Michael sad.gif ]

Sun., 1/11 --

8 p.m. 7 Finalists [ABMB]
9 p.m. Results
10 p.m. 6 Finalists [MOTN]
11 p.m. Results

Mon., 1/12 --

8 p.m. 5 Finalists [I'm Alive, AIRNIY]
9 p.m. Results
10 p.m. 4 Finalists [Hungry Like the Wolf, Baba O'Riley]
11 p.m. Results

Tues., 1/13 --

3 p.m. 3 Finalists [First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Dare You to Move, Don't Want to Miss a Thing]
4 p.m. Results
5 p.m. 2 Finalists [Still Haven't Found..., Dream Big, TWIK]
6 p.m. Finale

So tomorrow night they're throwing Idol Gives Back in there between the performances and the results, just as it had originally aired. On Sunday and Monday they're doing two weeks per night and then the kicker is on Tuesday when the shows start at 3:00 p.m. EST. First is the 3 Finalists show and results and then the Finals night and then the 2 hour Finale running from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. when the new AI season starts on FOX. Now the thing is that the Finale ran over by 10 minutes, so I'm guessing there'll be some editing to get it in the 2 hour time period, or FOX Reality channel probably won't have as many commercials as the original FOX broadcast, so that could make up the time (and for goodness sakes, stop with the "male enhancement" ads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Here's how I figured out the rest of the schedule (tonight on) - all times EST:

Friday, Jan 9
8:00 pm Top 9 perform
9:00 pm Results

Saturday, Jan 10
8:00 pm Top 8 perform
9:00 pm Idol Gives Back
11:30 pm Results

Sunday, Jan 11
8:00 pm Top 7 perform
9:00 pm Results
10:00 pm Top 6 perform
11:00 pm Results

Monday, Jan 12
8:00 pm Top 5 perform
9:00 pm Results
10:00 pm Top 4 perform
11:00 pm Results

Tuesday, Jan 13
3:00 pm Top 3 perform
4:00 pm Results
5:00 pm Final 2 perform
6:00 pm Finale

Looks like I'll have to leave work early next Tuesday.

Also, some people were asking about who is recording this. Well I have been attempting to catch it all. It's not the highest quality. I don't have all the auditions (just David's) nor do I have anything but David at Hollywood week. But from top 24 on, I am trying to capture it all (sans commercials, especially intenz!). I will let you guys know if I am successful in getting this all on DVD.... stay tuned.

I was just going to post the schedule and you beat me to it!

Yeah, I was wondering exactly the same thing about the finale. I've got the DVR set to tape an extra 15 minutes that night, but I hope that someone would edit it to fit into the two hours so we can switch right over to the new season at 8. It'll be bad enough trying to catch up since I'll be at work too! Probably take about 3 days to catch up on all of it!

Anyone else notice that we're not getting the Ford commercials on FOX REALITY? I guess Ford doesn't want to pay to replay them? They'd be a heck of a whole lot better than the "this could be fun" ads, green matador tights and all....

9 p.m. Results

Now I understand. Thanks!

I will let you guys know if I am successful in getting this all on DVD.... stay tuned.

LOL! Great minds think alike!

Yep, I'm leaving work early on Tuesday too. My husband is gonna think I'm crazy. I will also be making my hubby pick up the kids from school that day. After all, I can't leave the TV and miss my Cookie (even if it is a rerun)! I'm obsessed and insane ... but I love it!

I don't think the Finale on FOX Reality will run over past 8 p.m. on Tuesday because the new Idol season starts at 8 on FOX and there's no way they'd overlap (and my problem is that I have to work Tuesday night sad.gif .) I didn't realize that about the Ford commercials, but you're right! Oh no! I loved those and wanted to see them again. I had a few AI's still left over from the original airing on my DVR which I put on DVD the other night and then deleted to make room (one of my daughters has 55 hours of Japanese anime from the Cartoon Network clogging up our DVR, which I now have to transfer to DVD for her) for these AI re-airings. But I wasn't going to go to all the trouble of putting everything on DVD, just David's performances and a few other highlights like the group numbers -- they're cheese-tastic!

And apparently Grace and I share one brain! tongue.gif

Thanks Marie! biggrin.gif I think I'm with the choir here about those male enhancement ads. Do they think it's really that necessary to be running them during the AI showings? Geez!

Yep, part of the choir here too.... having to quick change the channel when those commercials come on, with the kids around... embarassing...

ETA: and also not particularly smart marketing, isn't the AI fanbase demographic largely women?

Yeah, I thought the same thing, but if you look at FOX Reality shows as a whole, they skew largely male. The "male enhancement" companies just make a blanket buy with FOX Reality and then the commercials are just scheduled X number of times an hour or day no matter what's airing (it's called "run of the house" like at hotels.)

My problem is that since I'm DVR'ing it, I can't change the channel!! ohmy.gif Fortunately my 10 yr old daughter isn't really interested in watching, but if she happens to be around when one of those commercials comes on I turn down the volume and ask her about school or homework or if she has picked out what to wear tomorrow, something to distract her. It was easier earlier this week when we still had the Christmas Tree up -- it blocked the view of the TV from the computer desk where she normally would be sitting. Shoot. I should have left the tree up until at least next Tuesday! laugh.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif I'm laughing to myself thinking about this... you have a predominately female viewing audience watching reruns of David Cook performances and getting, shall we say, "in the mood"... maybe they're counting on these females purchasing their product for their husbands/boyfriends.

When last night performance orginial aired, my area lost the cable. So I missed Carly and David A. performances. So I am glad to see their performances last night.

I loved MJ, Carly and of course David's performances. KLC performance last night and when she sings "Anyway" are the only ones that I liked of hers.

I completely understand. My nieces were watching the auditions with me and they kept playing that commerical. I would mute it. My 8 year old niece asked why I did that and what is it about. I told her that it is not appropriate commerical and it is something that you don't need to know about. Now I just change the channel.

Oh wow thanks so much for the remaining schedule! I do not have the channel, so I would be confused otherwise, since I just head over to Rickey's to watch it each night.

Thanks OCDC! I had seen your name associated with the taping but I didn't want to bug you with it. His audition and parts of Hollywood week are fine. It's all the performances that are fun. I'll keep checking back!

And how sad is it that I can recite the male "enhancement" commercial? "This could be fun!...get some of that old spark back!" "You'll be surprised how much fun you can have!" I'd have more fun if they put the Ford commercials back and leave this on the cutting room floor!

David is up next with Little Sparrow... and debuting his makeover. YAY!
JerseyGirl2
OK I'm watching this a little late on DVR. But I noticed two things with David I never had before.

First of all, besides how hot he looked, I think he was wearing cufflinks with that white shirt....

Secondly, when Paula was talking about how David went into his falsetto "and with strength, and it shows how well rounded you are" you can then hear Simon mutter sort of under his breath "and it's David Cook" -- like he's rolling his eyes 'cos he knows she's cookified!!!! I had to rewind it a couple of times to make sure I wasn't hearing things!!!

I ran it back a couple of times to see how he looked (sans makeover) when he was playing for Dolly Parton and then how he looked when he sang Little Sparrow on the show - it is truly astonishing to see how the haircut made his gorgeous eyes suddenly so visible and his skin so beautiful - I wish I had a stylist like that!! LOL

And I think Simon really just didn't like having Dolly Parton as the mentor. Yes, he praised Michael but really he seemed underwhelmed the whole night.

Haha, I always wondered what he said there! You know Simon is sooooooooooo jealous.

Okay, two things I have to comment about the fans questions.
First I wish I could hear David and Michael sing Islands in the Stream, (refering to their answer to the fans question) that would be hilarious!
And did anyone think of Simon's apology to David in the finale, when he said he wasn't going to apologize anymore for his criticism??

I don't mean to sound mean, and I really liked Brooke for most of her performances, but she started to pout every time she was judged and it just got annoying to me...I nicknamed her Crybaby when she started doing this in the real season...although I still really liked her. I think she needed to take the criticism without the poochy lip. She looked like a preschooler who did something bad. Hopefully since the tour she has gained some self confidence.

I loved the group number "9 to 5", especially when David sang to Paula. He must have known that he had her hooked.

I'm with you! I love watching David dance...He's turbocharged!!! Too bad they always stick him in the back. But the joke is on them. David has gone from idle to IDOL in just a few weeks. I LOVE that man!!!!!

Having never watched the results shows, I am getting a real kick out of this. The choreography is hilarious! And that Idol gives back video left me crying and as I'm watching, I'm thinking that David was probably in tears. And of course he was. They were certainly a weepy group!

The other thing I noticed was that after a certain point, Beth leaves and then comes back just for MJ. I'm sure she was checking up on David back stage. Even knowing, I couldn't tell he was sick and he must have been pretty dizzy and unstable with high BP. Maybe he looked a tad flushed? Isn't this also the week that he found out that Adam was not doing well at all? For some reason I got the impression that he thought Adam may not make it and it caused the high BP and heart palpitations. Also, I thought I read somewhere that Carly made sure he stayed focused and again, for some reason, I thought he wanted to leave because of this whole thing and she kept him there. If that's true, we owe her a big round of thanks!

I had not noticed the passing of the tissue before last night. Sweet.

I had heard Simon's comment about David to Paula in the download I have. I have always found it funny because it is probably true.

I have been fighting high BP since my late 20s and I know you can feel really bad when it is too high. Not really dizzy, but just bad. It is not a good feeling at all.

I, too, am getting extremely tired of the male enhancement ads. Not only is the subject matter ridiculous, the acting is downright lousy. My daughter and I have to chuckle and do some eye rolling when those ads are on. And did you see how many pills they give you for just a week's supply? How many of those things does a guy have to take? rolleyes.gif

I loved Michael's "Dream On." I thought it was the perfect song choice and he did it well, so I have no idea what Randy and Simon (or the American public) were thinking. Up until now I had been voting for both David and Michael, more for David, maybe a 60-40 split using Dial Idol. I think I was able to get about 300-350 votes in during the 2-hour window. But that night I was really worried for David, so I remember only doing about 75 votes for Michael and the rest (250-300) for David. So when Michael got voted off, I felt responsible since I sacrificed Michael for David. But then, as I mentioned up thread, Dial Idol that night showed Michael as well as David among those who were likely to get voted off. David even had a lower DI score than Michael. Conspiracy theorists would have you believe that David was going to be voted off, but the producers couldn't have that, so they sent Michael packing instead. They still got their "shocking" elimination while saving one of their golden boys. Who knows.

I think we all agree that KLC should have certainly been voted off before Michael. Guess it doesn't really matter at this point -- I'll definitely be buying Michael's album when it comes out in March and I hope to see him perform live sometime this year. I loved him on the Idol tour.

I will say that "Innocent" still remains one of my favorite David performances. I thought he was fantastic. However, the background singers were too loud and drowned him out a bit and, of course, it was just too short. I think singing a song that most of the audience was unfamiliar with may have hurt him a bit (I had wanted him to sing "Higher" by Creed), but it was far from the god-awful performance so many "fans" still chastise David for. And it was a song that was important to him. Plus, how could you not love the white jacket!!!! laugh.gif

The other thing is that I really didn't like Jason through most of the season, but now that I'm re-watching more carefully, I'm really enjoying Jason's sweetness. "Over the Rainbow" was, as Simon said, fantastic.
CookieAddict_24
This performance wasn't as bad as I remember people saying it was afterwards. I didn't see it as "pompous" at all. And he looked really good. Love the jacket.

And the studio version of Innocent is absolutely awesome. It's one of my faves from the show.
ODCD
The studio version of Innocent was one of the first ones I downloaded from iTunes. I absolutely loved it. I didn't see his performance as pompous at all - don't know where Simon was coming from. I think Michael's Dream On was much better during the AI tour concerts than he did on the show. This was the first performance by KLC that I liked. Everyone raved about her performance of God Bless the USA, but it was just ok for me.
