This performance wasn't as bad as I remember people saying it was afterwards.
And he looked really good. Love the jacket.

This is worth watching more than once just for the moan at the beginning.

Yep. wink.gif

In the meantime, my heart was breaking as David was getting his (unjust) critiques from the judges. He had such a defeated and dejected look on his face. Poor guy. sad.gif

I will also admit that I enjoyed Archie's "Angels" when he sang it at the concert.

Ah! PDSTM! I want a Mavid dance!!!

UGH... instead of Extenze, we are getting Maxoderm ads tonight - same difference.

I know, I just saw that and thought, "What? There's another one?" And then the first time I saw the "Size Matters" Bowflex ad, I thought that was one, too! laugh.gif All of these commercials are ridiculous.

Couldn't help but think about Mavid during PDSTM - and wouldn't you love to be the woman who had the "job" of being draped on David. This was the night I thought - my God, could this man be any sexier? Answer: yes, but I didn't know it then..........
SabresLove
i still love that rent song they did, even thought the i think kristy was singing really loud in the beginning.
it was nice to rewatch idol gives back..
im still sad that micheal went home but it's over haha
CookieAddict_24
Well that was a lot of Idol tonight lol Cookie did a great job on Shout to the Lord. And he looked so relieved when Ryan said he was safe. I think he was really worried.

Still sad to see Michael go home so soon. sad.gif He started out as one of my faves. I think it was pretty crappy of Ryan to say that last year they didnt eliminate anyone on Idol Gives Back...but this year we're saying byebye to Michael. Very rude. I noticed Cookie wiping his eyes before they showed Michael's goodbye video clip.

Tomorrow night we have one of the bestest performances of the season Always Be My Baby! wub.gif Now THAT performance is when I completely became cookified. smile.gif ABMB is my 2nd fave Idol Cook performance (he hasn't performed my fave yet).

And I believe Top 6 Music of The Night is on tomorrow night after the Top 7 results show. 2 good performances in a row biggrin.gif
HookedonDavidCook87
I forgot how much I loved Cookie singing 'Shout to the Lord' not gonna lie love hearing our boy sing a hymn hehe I also forgot how bummed I was after MJ left still sad sad.gif He was seriosuly robbed also David looked pretty sad he was going too.
willow
Poor Michael. sad.gif I really hated the "Remember last year during Idol Gives Back Week when we didn't let anyone go home? Well, we're not doing that this year. Adios, Michael." Such a stupid way to do things, and I know Ryan was told to do it that way by that idiot Nigel, but it made Ryan look bad, too. I wonder what would have happened had they not let Michael go, and if they added that night's votes to the next week's and let two people go. I wonder how that would have changed things. I think KLC still would have gone, but I think maybe Syesha would have gone instead of Michael. I bet Michael would have finished 3rd.

Oh well, it's all a moot point. Michael's got his CD coming out and I'm sure he'll be touring in club venues after that.

This is tomorrow night's schedule (Eastern time -- you do your own math!)

Sun., 1/11 --

8 p.m. 7 Finalists [ABMB]
9 p.m. Results
10 p.m. 6 Finalists [MOTN]
11 p.m. Results

I agree with you. I think that is how it would have played out. I felt so badly for Michael. It wasn't his time to go. Such a shame.

Oh well....if he plays out here in So. Calif. I'll certainly go see him. I think he is great.

I can't wait until tonight. My favorite performances, ABMB (my #1 favorite performance) and MOTN (was orginial aired on my birthday). It has a special place in my heart.

Even though I know who went home last night I still got sad when Michael left. sad.gif

I DVRed the orginial Idols Give Back, but I never got "Shout to the Lord performance". My DVR stop just before Mariah Carey performance, so I never got it. I was so mad. I am happy now, I got it last night.

I hated to see Michael go.

ABMB tonight!
JerseyGirl2
I hate to admit it, but I really did not like Cookie's vocals at all in this performance. I think his lower register where he started the first (second?) verse was just off, and it didn't kick in well until he got to the chorus. (I do like the studio version a goozillion times better). He stayed out of the bottom three on the strength of his previous few weeks I'm thinking.

As for Michael, sad to see him go, but I wasn't crazy about Dream On for him either, even when I saw him do it live on tour. He just couldn't get those high notes for me and it threw it off totally. I saw Steven Tyler doing it last month (guest singer at the TSO show), and it really was better.

PS Just watching the results show now... it struck me how good Carly and David's voices sounded together on Shout to the Lord... Maybe we should lobby for a duet, no?
dream
I hated Simon for saying that David was pompous, it seemed really petty. To be a true performer, you have to have a confidence that radiates into your singing. I maintain the opinion that Simon was jealous, because Paula was enamored with DC.
I didn't know this song (Innocent), but I liked the fact that he took the risk to sing it and I knew it meant something to him.....and it showed. I loved it.
But in saying that, I think song choice is really, really important and in this instance David was risking his lead somewhat. I think he had enough of a fan base to do that.
Thank goodness! ( I still get a little stressed watching these.lol.)
Michael Johns in my opinion was eliminated for a few reasons...the main one being that the rocker vote went to David. He just didn't compare, imo.
I really liked Michael, but I only voted for one person at this point...yeah=David. I personally felt Michael wasn't very original in many of his song choices, he picked overkilled rock anthems, which are immediately compared to the originals. His best night, imo, was "Its all Wrong, but Its All Right" because he gave it his own flavor. That being said, I too, am looking forward to his album.

You know when I heard them say that Mariah Carey was going to be a mentor....all I could think was how the judges are always telling the contestants NOT to pick one of her songs because they will be compared to her, so I really thought it was funny/strange that they chose her.
ODCD
Carly just did Without You and IMO totally nailed it... but of course Simon told her she didn't pull it off. Poor girl! I think he totally undermined her confidence throughout the competition.
Tee
Damn, damn, damn, I just missed the show and made it just in time to catch Paula and Simon's review of David sad.gif
CookieAddict_24
Archie----sang well of course. But in the future….Archie just say no to pleather pants lol

Carly-----Pretty dress…she did a nice job…but I also agree that she seems to over think while she’s singing. Simon got in her head early on and I think it affected almost all of her performances

Syesha----another pretty dress. She sang the heck out of it, but I just never really thought she ever connected with the audience.

Brooke-very sparkly…love her on the piano….I thought it was nice…but I kinda think the song was too big for her voice….but all Mariah songs are big songs….so not sure what else she coulda done. Simon and the hamburger comment….lol

Kristy Lee----She did okay…..but it was definitely time for her to go home.

The object of our obsession-- Wow….chills….eyes tearing up….now THAT blew everyone else away. Awesome. The night I was cookified. I remember the first time watching it….it was the first time I’d ever wanted to give someone a standing O from my living room. This time I just stood up the whole time lol Such an emotional performance.

Jason- --Nice job…unique…if I didn’t know beforehand, I’d never be able to tell that was a Mariah song.

Excellent review. Watching the results show now. I've noticed that no matter who David is paired with in the group numbers, he always sounds great with them.

Thanks! I figured it was easier doing it that way then making a separate comment after each performance. Took me till Top 7 to figure it out lol

And I agree....he always sounds good on group sing a longs.

Oh this is the "you stand in this group" night. I freaked a bit when he got put in the same group as Kristy Lee lol

And I knew Ryan would mention "getting emotional" Good for David for not saying exactly why he was emotional.

I think freaking out the fans was all part of the plan, lol. I remember flipping out for David as well. I love how Archie refused to choose sides, good for him.

David was awesome! He blew me away and actually made me go to iTunes for the first time to download ABMB, nevermind that I later had to find a way to convert it to an mp3 since I don't own an iPod, lol.

LOL! Same here... still don't have an iPod, but have downloaded plenty of David's songs as well as DCTR.

Ryan must really be short - all the girls, including Mariah Carey, tower over him. Of course they are all wearing high heels.
Tee
So have I, Grace! And I still don't have an iPod either! laugh.gif I'm perfectly happy with my mp3 player wink.gif

You know the first time Mariah performed I must have been so blinded by her bedazzled microphone that I didn't notice that to the side, all the contestants were linked together and swaying side to side. Cute. They really did seem like a tight group.

Also, I love how David would help each contestant up and down the step from the couch whenever he could. I recall that I hadn't noticed that until this episode. He was raised right, our Cookie.
ODCD
OMG... I had forgotten that KLC sang her departure song to Simon. That was great of her!
SabresLove
lmao, archies was so cute, but i think they should of chose someone else to be the first safe person archie looked so ......idk. i mean 17 and put in that postin.

i really think they wanted to play of that hole cook thing before kristy left. lmao.
or maybe it is jst me.

i did see cook help the people!! i was to busy not watching the first time because i really dont like mariah c

David's performance of 'Music of the Night' still makes me weak in the knees I tell ya he is so sexy during that song the way he is connecting with the camera makes me melt *fans self*

i think this is where sysha starts getting better.
not to say she wasnt good before but .

obs, we know that are 2 david established them self a long time ago..
and here is where sysha hit home.

imo

I, too, do not have an IPod - or an MP3 player. It was enough of a struggle to get this laptop a year ago! I do DL a lot
of music and I love Amazon MP3.

I have wondered what happened to Syesha. We've heard nothing from her and I've even heard of Rami having singles out and giving concerts. I think Syesha is not so much a recording artist but would be great on Broadway.
SabresLove
who have you guys heard singles of?

i mean obs i know about cook&archies.

and kristys but i here she got dropped.
and i know about brooke. how is she doing?

blue_sky78
Awww, memories.. I don't get to watch this but I love reading what you guys have to say, its fun reliving the season. You guys are right, David's definitely a gentleman, and yeah I noticed a few of these gestures too AFTER the fact. Cos throughout the season I was actually REFUSING to thud. laugh.gif I thought I was doing pretty good NOT getting caught up in the fandom but I started noticing that my eyes sought out David and followed only him when I was watching the show.. sure sign that I was a goner DESPITE actively trying NOT to develop a new celebrity favourite.

Count me in on those that don't own an iPod. My cell is actually my mp3 player AND my camera! laugh.gif I've got all of David's songs on my cell PLUS a TON of pictures.

I haven't heard anything about Syesha either. I think she might be taking a break from that whole world and spending time with family instead. Girl can definitely sing tho!
SabresLove
blue sky, i get what you mean, you try not to get caught up.
but you are and then like.
you only seee the things that involve jst your man. its like tunnel viison hahah

lmao, i was looking at my post and like i thought after 89 came 100, hahah sry radom

I don't mean to repeat myself but rewatching David's performance of 'Music of the Night' just reminded me how much I loved it. That song was just an amazing vocal for him and dear lord he just melts you with that smoltering stare of his.
ODCD
Okay... now that I'm totally a puddle in the floor... no way should Carly have been voted off this round. She was (and has been) so much stronger than Jason or Brooke.
CookieAddict_24
Starting off....since ALW was in the audience.....he should have joined the judging panel. He seemed to give good (even if sometimes weird) criticism during the mentoring and I wonder what he thought of the actual performances.

Syesha----Showed some personality on this song. I think this type of music fits her even though she doesn't want to be labeled as a "Broadway"”type singer.. One of her best me thinks. I swear I typed that before Randy said it lol

Jason----Ummm....I'll just say not his best. Don't think it worked for him. I think he was relieved when it was over lol

Brooke---uh oh.....another stop and start. I think as the weeks went by u could tell the pressure was getting to her. She sounded okay....but stopping and starting thru her off for the whole song.

Archie---lol @ Archie's groupies. Of course he sounds good...he's Archie. The only thing I'll say is at this point all his songs kinda sound the same. Especially listening to them fairly close together.

Carly--Awesome. One of her best all year. Sounded good. Looked relaxed and into the performance. Crazy she went home after this.

Sensual and sexy himself---- Oh wow...such a beautiful performance. A tad theatrical but hey it fits the nights theme. He had some great high notes and I think showed he could sing a song straight without rearranging it. And I think he won over a lot more people with this performance. He got his first "David we love you!"”shouts from the audience. How cute his mom holding the "David Cook Rocks"”sign. And he definitely has perfected the whole looking thru the camera thing by this night.

And on that note, recording results and am off to bed. Tomorrow night is Neil Diamond night (Yay for All I Really Need Is You. I think it's one of his best but underrated performances) and also Rock N Roll Hall of Fame night
Tee
I loved this performance by Carly, I didn't think it was her time to go at all.

David was just as awesome - and hot! - as I remembered.

ETA: Weren't the Ford videos shown throughout the season, or am I recalling this incorrectly?

All I can say is Gaaaaa-ggggaaaaa-gaaa!! THUD! All over again.

Watching on and off all night, and ironically every time I tuned in Cookie was on. Fate, huh smile.gif

Did anyone know at the time of ABMB that David's "family and friends" was his brother Adam? I know I didn't!

Also, has anyone else noticed that sometimes when they do the recap at the end, they use a different camera angle? I thought I noticed it before but wasn't really sure, but then it was really obvious on MOTN since he was last and it was dramatic. At the last glory note, they shot it from his lower left looking up into his face but on the recap they shot the last glory note full face on (which of course lets you have one more look at those gorgeous eyes -- btw I think he worked the eyes the most on this song than any other all season...) Which bums me out a little because I haven't been burning the recaps to disk, just the performances.

Oh, and Brooke's butterfly dress -- hubby and I took a ride into Long Branch last spring and we saw the butterfly dress in the window of a shop. I asked the shopkeeper about it, she said she'd been getting a lot of comments, yes it was the same (well not literally the exact same) dress that Brooke wore on the show.

OK got to go burn some DVDs so there's room for tomorrow night's shows.. Night all...
SabresLove
i dont want to sound mean but like i think brooke should of left.
i mean archie forgot like 3 words in think of me , and i know he was far in the song but he jst want with it jst like in work it out.

i mean carly should of been in top 5 aleast.

PS Ford owns the commercials probably, not Fox or AI, so Ford would have to pay to have them on the recap. That's my guess, I have no facts to back that up

Haha right?! god I'm so sick of that commercial I swear at one point tonight they played it played another then played it again. It has to be the worst commercial ever! I'm still kinda pissed Carly left on AWL it shoud've been Jason IMO. Brooke stopped yeah but I think she did a great job connecting I personally wanted Syesha to leave I never liked her thought she was too cold toward everyone in the group.
Tee
I hadn't thought of that Rachel, but that explanation makes sense.

I wasn't a fan of Syesha's either but this was my favorite performance of hers and I think she did an incredible job on One Rock and Roll Too Many. I like Brooke and Jason enough but I think they should have been the bottom two this episode.
HookedonDavidCook87
^ Yeah thats true. I love David's face in Carly goodbye vid it was too funny!
Tee
He was in Kristy's goodbye package too I noticed. I think at this point in the competition is when David lost most of those he seemed closest too. Although he already seemed to be getting playful with Archie at this point.

I hadn't remembered they went to Vegas to meet ALW. Don't they go back for Top 4 to see a show?

Ford is not sponsoring this reairing of Season 7 so the Ford commercials will not be aired.

In answer to whoever mentioned the different camera angles for the recap, the recap is actually taped at the rehearsal and not the actual show, so there are differences.

Jeannine, does this mean that Brooke forgot the words at the rehearsal also? She should've rehearsed more!

As for those ExtenZe commercials...what matters is not the length of the wand, but the magic in the stick! LOL

That's a good question regarding Brooke. I'm just going on what I was told....that they taped the dress rehearsal that day and used that footage for the recap that night. I didn't get to watch the second show tonight due to going out to dinner, so I'm not sure which you are speaking of.
