I don't mean to repeat myself but rewatching David's performance of 'Music of the Night' just reminded me how much I loved it. That song was just an amazing vocal for him and dear lord he just melts you with that smoltering stare of his.

*Goes to rewatch David's Music of the Night*

All I can say is Gaaaaa-ggggaaaaa-gaaa!! THUD! All over again.

Watching on and off all night, and ironically every time I tuned in Cookie was on. Fate, huh smile.gif

Did anyone know at the time of ABMB that David's "family and friends" was his brother Adam? I know I didn't!

Also, has anyone else noticed that sometimes when they do the recap at the end, they use a different camera angle? I thought I noticed it before but wasn't really sure, but then it was really obvious on MOTN since he was last and it was dramatic. At the last glory note, they shot it from his lower left looking up into his face but on the recap they shot the last glory note full face on (which of course lets you have one more look at those gorgeous eyes -- btw I think he worked the eyes the most on this song than any other all season...) Which bums me out a little because I haven't been burning the recaps to disk, just the performances.

Oh, and Brooke's butterfly dress -- hubby and I took a ride into Long Branch last spring and we saw the butterfly dress in the window of a shop. I asked the shopkeeper about it, she said she'd been getting a lot of comments, yes it was the same (well not literally the exact same) dress that Brooke wore on the show.

OK got to go burn some DVDs so there's room for tomorrow night's shows.. Night all...

I noticed at the finale that the recaps are different from the actual performance-especially on I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For(a favorite DC performance). The recap was totally not how he sang when he was judged. Is it possible the recaps are from the dress rehearsals? I don't pay much attention to the others' recaps, but I want to get up and vote for David all over again! It's like he was the only contender! These reruns have been such a gift. Kudos to whomever had that brainstorm.

yeah I'm going to have to watch the recaps even more closely. It makes sense that they would be taped at rehearsal, because it does take a few minutes to edit that sort of stuff, but then there's the question about Brooke's missing the words...

one other thing I noticed as I was recording last night ... remember when Ryan ran into the audience and ripped up the Simon for President poster? Well, I caught a glimpse of the word "Cook" on the back side of one half, the other half may have been "David" -- I would have been upset if my David Cook sign was ripped up!!! Wonder what the rest of it said?

The recaps at the end of a performance show are from the dress rehearsal (due to time constraints.) The recaps on the results shows are from the actual performances.

1st songs….

Jason----Lol @ having the wrong song on his hand. Not bad…had the Jason twist on it.

Cookie--- OMG that lil shoulder shrug and smile! Nice. I actually like the studio version of this (BUT they should have done the studio version of All I Really Need is You instead).

Brooke- eh…kinda cheesy...song didn’t fit her….kinda awkward performance

Archie---Well I guess he did a more upbeat song….I found it be a cruise ship type performance lol

Syesha---she has such a good voice. Pretty song. Thought she did a good job.

Uh oh…and there goes Paula …

2nd songs---

jason-phone in performance...I think he shoulda went home this week instead of Brooke.

All I Really Need is Cook--- Beautiful! wub.gif Awesome! wub.gif Bring the confetti down now! This is in my top 5 fave Cook performances from idol. I swear that boy looks thru a camera better than anyone else that’s been on TV. Loved it! And Paula had a moment of clarity saying she’s looking at the next American Idol. And has anyone counted how many times Simon called Cookie brilliant and/or smart during the show?

Brooke- Nice job...girl...stay on the piano.

Archie-- I figured he'd do this song before the song choices were announced. I think he did better on this than the 1st song. He always looks like he stops breathing when the judges are critiquing him. Breathe...Archie..Breathe! lol

Syesha-Showin' personality again. Better than 1st song. I liked it. She does better on these types of songs.

ODCD
I want Syesha's purple dress! And I'm more of a "Forever in Blue Jeans" kind of gal....
willow
I've lost count how many times Syesha was in the bottom 2 or 3, how did she manage to survive all the way to #3? She was very lucky because now I really see that Carly should have been there instead.

And wow, Grace! I would have never pegged you as a purple dress kinda girl!! laugh.gif

ETA: And little did David know that night that in another 7 months he'd be performing alongside Natasha Bedingfield!!

I've lost count too. I think both Carly and Sy are very talented. I'm guessing that Carly and Michael left "before their time" because the rocker vote was going to David. Sort of like the B94 poll...

Yeah... I can't tell you the last time I put on a dress, but there was something about that purple dress that I just really liked.
CookieAddict_24
Awwww....Brooke....she always came across as so sweet and appreciative.

Only gonna comment on David's performance. I'm going to bed after Baba O'Riley.

Hungry like the wolf----he did a nice job and looked sexy and had the camera eyes going. Didn't seem like himself I will admit. I think singing more than one song made it tough on David because he probably didn't have time to rearrange both songs and do what he wanted with them.

I read or heard somewhere that he originally was going to do TWIK at this point in the competition, but he felt it wasn't quite right yet, and because he had slowed down Baba O'Riley, decided that a more upbeat song would be better.

Pam08
That comment from Jason was just epic! laugh.gif To be honest, I think Jason was relieved when he was eliminated. He was hilariously funny in his interviews in his rounds with AI Extra and the talk shows.
Tee
Yeah, I think Jason was ready to go as well. The last few weeks he didn't come across (at least to me) as putting as much into the performances. And I didn't notice the first time around but this time, his big grins in the results shows as the contestant eliminated is doing the sing off is weird, I mean it really struck me while Brooke was bawling and barely able to get through her song, there is Jason behind her chuckling with a huge grin. Seemed inappropriate. JMO.

Does anyone here post on TWoP? I never knew what they meant when they say (still to this day) that they've been "Baba O'Reilly'd". Just wondering if that's a good thing or not.

Am I the only fan that didn't totally hate HLTW? I was disappointed that out of all the rock songs to choose from he picked...Duran Duran? unsure.gif It was a very WTF moment for me to be honest, but I was a DD fan when I was a kid so I went with it, lol. I didn't think his performance was on the same level as his past ones...still I didn't think he sucked, but he and most of the fans really seemed to want to wipe that from memory laugh.gif
CookieAddict_24
"Out here in the fields".....sigh..... blink.gif The way he sings that line....is just...thud

Paula is right again.....We all just want more more more David Cook.

And I'll watch Jason shoot the tamborine man tomorrow I guess. lol

I'm annoyed that it starts at 3:00 tomorrow. When I get home at 6:00 the finale will be starting.

The World I Know is on tomorrow wub.gif....absolute fave Cook Idol performance which is why it's still on my DVR from May lol

ODCD
Well, Jason just killed the Tamborine Man... again. It's still painful to watch. Almost as painful as that pitiful comparison Syesha made between Sam Cooke writing that song during the Civil Rights movement and her own life. And almost as painful as the never-ending Extenze ads. ARG!!!! IMO Jason coasted on his unique looks and personality way too long in this competition. MJ and Carly should have out-lasted him. Brooke, too.

I actually like HLTW. I could see that David might not have been quite as in to it, but his vocals were superb and those killer looks.... thud-worthy! Funny, the first time I downloaded from iTunes I got Day Tripper, Hungry Like the Wolf, Innocent, ABMB, All Right Now, Hello, and of course, Billie Jean.
willow
I loved HLTW and still do. I loved the little stalking strut he did. But I think he seemed to lack his usual energy -- I don't think he was happy with himself with that performance. And I think the rumor at the time was that he was supposed to do "All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix that night. I remember, though, we had spent days speculating before the show and the consensus was that we wanted him to do "Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison just to hear him say "Mercy!" Thud. Funny how during the Idol tour there were a couple of nights where he played the opening riff to "Pretty Woman"! laugh.gif

I didn't hate it either but I had one of those moments too kind of like, David, what are you doing? laugh.gif On a good note though, the studio version is really good. Ha ha! I saw it. I think it's because we both have DirecTV -- I noticed when I watched on Rickey's the other night, while also watching my own television that some of the commercials were different. Cable and satellite companies sometimes put in their own commercials and promos in during some commercial breaks.

But yeah, my 10-yr-old daughter thought they were the greatest things!! I thought they were great if you want to look like you're in the 1960s or if you're pinning your hopes on becoming Miss America. laugh.gif

IDK... I don't think we should read too much into Jason's demeanor on stage. He definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer. Maybe he hadn't caught on just yet.

Just watched Fantasia perform in the results show to reveal the two finalists. The look on Simon's face is priceless!

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but David actually did mess up some lyrics on occasion. Granted, he never totally forgot any lyrics, but he did say a few wrong lyrics here and there -- Father McKenzie was "darning" his socks in the night, not "wearing" his socks in the night. He said the same line twice during All Right Now, he transposed some lyrics in MOTN, in Daytripper he sang "One-way ticket, yeah" when the background singers were singing "Sunday driver, yeah." In DWTMAT, it's supposed to be stay "awake" just to hear you breathing, not stay "away."

BUT, the thing about how great David is, is that no one notices when he misses the lyrics. He's such a professional and never misses a beat, he just keeps on going. And the only reason I know about any of these mis-cues is that I've watched his AI performances hundreds of times. I'm sure the judges and the audience seeing the performance once never noticed a thing!

I also watched zabasearch and the same there (but they count text messages). I still was nervous but HE DIDN'T GET ALL THE "GRANNY" VOTES BECAUSE THIS GRANNY VOTED HER FINGERS TO THE BONE. So what happened was Simon pissed us off and gave the night to Archie and so there were tons of "grannies" out there who said "WTF?" We picked up the phone and dialed 4 hours straight!!!!! The little teeny-boppers voted as long as they could but it's a school night!!! Rocker moms and grannies tucked them into bed, grabbed their cell phones, grabbed their land lines and voted and voted.

Did you hear me all the way from Virginia screaming when he was announced the winner?? Yes, that noise was me--sorry...

Not a granny here, although I suppose I'm old enough to be. But you're right - Simon's comments the final night of competition really irritated me enough to make me do something I had never done before - vote for a contestant in a reality show. I think I made up for lost time because I voted four hours straight on my land line and cell phone. I also monitored idoldial and even though they were predicting the win for David Cook, I was still nervous come finale night.

If anyone heard that shriek in stereo, that's because I was sounding off with reinharv here in Virginia.

I just died again... when David sang "til the end of time" in the last group number of the finale. *thud*

ETA: I think they should have made George Michael shorten his performance to a minute and a half, like the contestants had to do all season. That man was putting me to sleep!

Tee, I mostly lurk but do post once in awhile on the TWoP thread at DCO. When they talk about being "Baba O'Reilly'd", they mean that something was just starting to get really, really good and then SNAP! Just like that...it's OVER! It's their verbal code for something that got interrupted, or cut off right at the good part.

Hi, I just played back top 5 last night, since I was at a wake Monday night, and I had the same problem, the DVR froze on Randy's face after Jason's second performance (at about 26 minute mark), then the next thing you see the DVR is at the 12 minute mark and Simon's commenting on Archie's performance.

I'm so bummed because I've been recording all of David's bits onto DVD and now I will be missing All I Really Need Is You, except for the snippets they show on the recaps. And I love that song....

Yes I do have Verizon Fios(on Long Island). So annoyed, because I was DVRing all of season 7 and looking forward to both of the Neil Diamond songs. David outsung the other performers by a mile! Watching season 7 again was such fun and even better because we got the outcome we wanted.

I wonder if there's anything Verizon could do about it? If they weren't such a pain in the a$$ as regards service calls I'd call them and see if they have it on archives. or at least get a credit back. But we've been trying to straighten out a billing item for several months now, and it just doesn't seem worth the effort.

On a happier note, I just spent the day finally watching all the rest of the shows and recording them to DVD. And I am amazed that no matter how many times I watch, I always seem to find something new... Tonight, at the finale results announcements, we all knew that Simon and Paula hugged, well did you know that Paula and Randy high-fived, then hugged, and Paula was jumping up and down like crazy. I think it was right after David started singing....
Yeah, they wanted him to win.... smile.gif

Sorry if this is a double post, but he also did mess up during Hungry Like The Wolf but it took me several times watching it to actually notice he forgets the lyrics near the end and kind of mumbles them. I was so proud because nobody even noticed!!! He is just amazing *in love* laugh.gif
