Full Version: Archie slips up...again
David Cook > The Other Stuff > American Idol (General)
Jules
Did anybody else notice that Archie screwed up the lines to Seasons of Love?

That's the second time he's done something like that and it kind of makes me mad that he keeps coming back.
amm11383
I noticed and totally flipped out about it because Rent is by far, my favorite musical, and what he sang totally changed the context of the song. He supposedly flubbed up the lyrics this past week, but I wasn't familiar with the song so I didn't notice. Don't know if thats actually true but that's what I've read elsewhere.

Archie needs to go away! Sorry Archie fans!
CRZYASH5787
He actually messed up the words this past week as well but he was able to cover it up. He basically mumbled the middle of it.
Mrs. Makinsey Archuleta
I noticed that too...

BUT I STILL LOVE ARCHIE!!!!!!

XD
marissa!
another reason why i went back to cook.
Jules
The reason I never left Cook.

I'm sorry to all the Archuleta fans but, seriously, he needs to go. No offense intended.
luvindc
I noticed it too. Rent is one of my favorite musicals and just messing up, it's a bad thing to do. If you want to be a singer, you cannot mess up the lyrics. No offense to Archuleta fans, but he has to go. In my opinion, he should have been the first one to go since the Top 12. He butchered the song from the beginning. Know the song that you're singing.
kim dauria
I cant believe the judges didnt notice
Julian COOK :D
Ooh.
I didn't notice but..whoa. xD

So why may I ask are you here exactly?

I'm sorry, but this is getting a bit annoying. I'd like to see how well that statement would go over about Archie at his forum. And yes I did read the comment you were replying to. But who is this MB dedicated to again?

I agree with you. All of us at this forum are here to show our love and support for David Cook.

I notice this too but at least it wasn't bad like when he sang "We Can Work It Out" by the Beatles, then he really screwed it!

so anyway..

yeah, i noticed the slip up, too.
he shoulda been sent home on the week he sang "We can Work it out"... in my opinion.
marissa!
no offense but a lot of the "arch angels" are seriously annoying. when I was on those boards they just complain and say david cook "isn't as great as the judges say" I don't get one they have to come on here and continute to say Archuleta is better ON A DAVID COOK MB.
XODCfoxXO
he did that this week, too with ALW... but, if you watch it closely, they pan the camera away when he messes up for 3 seconds by mumbling the lyrics he didnt know.....and they make a big deal about Brooke???? its kinda unfair...

It was not really that it was bad because he sounded fine. It just really bugged me because I found it disrespectful to the writer Johnathan Larson, who died like the day before the musical opened. It's his only legacy and to have some 17 year old kid screw up the lyrics on live television just seems wrong to me. And don't they rehearse the entire week in advance for the performance?

I think on the tuesday or the results show they start picking songs for the next week.

I actually read that they had been rehearsing for 2 weeks prior to the IGB show.

It did annoy me that he forgot the lyrics. But honestly, i think it might just be a thing he has with his nerves, since it's happened 3 times this season.
CRZYASH5787
I was actually re watching all of their auditions last night on youtube...

and Archie messed up the words on his AUDITION!

wth....

audition
Michael
I didn't notice that he messed up last week. I think that in the beginning it might have bee easier for Archie. There were songs that he knew and possibly sang before. These past couple of performances maybe the song selections he wants just are there. It would be tough learning and having to sing them in just a week. Maybe that why he has to perform them the same way. Just a thought.
DavidCookLove
My friend noticed that he messed up too...I don't know the song so I didn't really care.

I don't think the judges said anything because that performance wasn't really being judged.
*InlovewithDC*
Wow, I had forgotten he messed up on his audition too! He was very good though, but he doesn't compare to Cookie.
willow
Maybe I shouldn't point this out, but I know of 3 times that DC sang the wrong lyrics. But guess what? He has such skill, confidence and finesse that there was no way to tell during the performance. In fact, even having listened to every DC performance dozens, maybe hundreds of times, I never noticed, but someone here did point them out (nicely, of course.)

In "All Right Now" he sings "Hey, what's your name" when the lyric was supposed to be "Hey, what's this." (he then sings "Hey what's your name" a second time in the next line, which was the correct lyric.) In "Day Tripper" when he comes back to the regular mic from the vocoder, he sings "One way ticket, yeah" while the background singers are singing "Sunday driver, yeah." And in MOTN he sings "falling, floating" when it's supposed to be "floating, falling" (he sings it correctly on the studio version.)

No big deal, and it in no way dampened the absolute spectacularness of the performance. But tell that to the haters who love to point it out in their YT comments! I couldn't believe one who said, of the ALW songs, "if you really listen to the performances, you'll see that DA was technically perfect, while DC had many bad notes". laugh.gif If those are DC's "bad" notes, then I say give me more! And if DA was "technically perfect" then he was also "technically boring."

The difference is that DC has the maturity, experience and confidence to just keep on going -- and not just giggle and smile into the camera looking like he's going to wet his pants.

What is "technically perfect?" I offer the suggestion that performing so brilliantly that no one can even tell you've missed a word or a phrase without a detailed post-mortem is pretty darn perfect. Truth is that no one on earth is truly perfect, and this sniping between fan groups is probably not something that would make either of the Davids happy, since they seem to be able to rise above the competition to stay cordial at the least. To me, it seems more even, that OUR David is being a big brother and a mentor to young David, and that young David is a pretty nice kid, who is not on any big ego trip at all.

David A. is very unpolished and seems younger than 17 to me. In so many ways he seems much less ready for all this attention than say, Jordin was last year. But he has a pleasant voice, and years to learn presentation. I want to see our dear David win because he is truly a whole cut above everyone else and has been all along, but I am sure that whatever happens, he will get the success he deserves, and he will go down in music history.

DAVID COOK FOREVER!
marissa!
i agree.

he is "technically boring"

that made me laugh

he shoulda been sent home on the week he sang "We can Work it out"... in my opinion.

she's a member there.....

but just cause he forgot words doesn't mean he should be sent home. it's a singing competition and he's got one of the best voices i've heard. no doubt about that. i wouldn't watch AI anymore if he was sent home early in the competition cause that would just mean that the producers messed with the votes and that wouldn't be fair. would you guys feel the same way and think DC should go home if he messed up the words????

and it's not about the attention....it's about singing for the right reasons...and i love his reasons for singing. sorry. i just had to defend archie....since no one else here really is. you would want someone defending DC right?????
kayekaga
when he slipped up on seasons of love i freaked out as well cos rent is my fav musical ever... but no need to have taken it too heavily. i bet even the late jonathan larson wouldn't have had spasmic reactions to it.
Jules
I realize I was the one who started this whole thing and it does still bug me that David A. messed up several times on the show, but I think we can stop arguing about this stuff. We all should know by now who won the show. (Yay DC.)

And I still don't understand why Archie fans are here but...Just want to keep the peace.

maybe cause we're Archie fans, but we also like DC???? why doesn't that makes since?
just cause we LOVE archie doesn't mean he's the only one we could like from the show.
this is supposed to be a site for people who like DC and i do.....there isn't anything that says you can't be here if you like someone else too/better.

i agree with you COMPLETELY. archie's my 4th and cook's my 2nd (MJ=#1) but i'm part of DC.org, archufans AND MJO...some people just don't get it!!

i was just on the 16+ thread in the archuletafans site and they were throwing rocks at me for saying that archie was my 4th... le sigh...i think it's also a matter of maturity for these people...

:holds up hands in defense: Look, that's fine that you like other people instead of DC. That's YOUR choice. All I was implying was that if you're on a Cook site talk about Cook. If you're on a Archie site talk about Archie. That's my feelings on the matter. :steps back timidly:

well if you want us talking about Cook instead of Archie, then why are you posting threads about him?
that makes A LOT of since.
the reason we're talking about archie is cause you started talking about him.
all i'm asking is that you are nice to the other contestants.
DC and Archie are like brothers and if you liked DC even the least bit, you would respect Archie.
that's why i started liking DC more.
they have nothing but good things to say about eachother and i don't think either one of them would appreciate what people are saying.

and kaye....it's okay...it's kinda the WAY you were saying things over there...but you're back right now.

lol chloe. i guess. i tend to be a bit tmth with my comments sometimes.

but jer just left and i'm getting tired so i think i might go to bed.
but gosh, no one is there tonight. it's been so boring. lol.
Jules
I already addressed the fact that yes I was the one who started this thread and right about now I want nothing more than this whole back and forth argument between DC fans and Archie fans to just stop. Is that okay with everyone? And I do respect Archuleta just like I respect every other contestant on the show. When I started this whole thing I was simply a little peeved about Archuleta messing up the lines to the songs he performs. I realize that nobody's perfect and that it's normal to screw up. I have nothing but respect for Archuleta since he made it as far as he did. I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of his but that doesn't mean that I don't respect.
Chloe Archuleta
it's not just DC fans vs. Archie fans. it's DC fans vs. BOTH david fans. you just don't sound like you respect either one of them very much. DC or Archie cause of the things you've said.....and no, no one is perfect just like you said and he's 17!!! I'd like to see any 17 year old go out and try to do Idol, school, stress, interviews, commmercials, and everything else that comes with it. if he forgot a line to a song, BIG deal. He also had over 12 hours less to practice because of school! He was amazing every week and made it to the top 2 instead of everyone else who didn't have to worry about some of the things he did. And if you have nothing better to do than sit here and talk bad about other people, than go right ahead. but i just want to see you try to do what he's done. YOU go on american idol. YOU get up on that stage and not mess up once. Until you do that, stop criticizing someone else for something you might do too. I don't think you'd appreciate it very much if people were saying things like this about you after you put your heart and soul and EVERYTHING you've got into a song and spent SO much time on it just to touch your fans. why don't you try to be just a little more mature. ok? i'm sorry that he's actually a VERY humble person who wants to sing for the right reasons instead of for the reasons that most people do. He didn't want fame of attention, so why don't you go and talk bad about someone who wants attention! And don't say that he shouldn't have done american idol if he wasn't ready for this cause i've heard that before and i completely disagree! It's about finding the best singer....not the best person ready for fame, or not the best talker.
