Full Version: Season Final Tonight!
David Cook > The Other Stuff > American Idol (General)
CoolBeck
I watched the season finale tonight, and I was not impressed with either of Kris or Adam. First off I dont care for either of there styles, but I personally would have voted for David Archeletta over either of those two. I just want to know what you guys think? I mean after David Cook, everyone is a let down. But i want to know what this thing is with Adam, cause I dont get it, I find him very theatrical, and very wierd when he is singing and his voice is realy realy high!

I actually was embarrased for Kris on the final song, cause that song was so high and out of his range, I think the producers did that on purpose so he wouldnt win!! My opinion...

Actually I thought they BOTH had a good night tonight, with the exception of the last song for Kris-- I agree that it was too high for him. And I agree that they may have written it higher with Adam in mind, ESPECIALLY if they were projscting him in their minds to be the winner.

But overall I DID enjoy tonight. And having said that I NEVER did connect with ANY of them this year, the way I connected last year. smile.gif I could never understand why, but I think a lot of it is because I don't feel like I ever really got to KNOW any of them. Seems to me in seasons past, they spent more time/segments so you could get to know the conetestants better.....?????

I agree with most of what you said. It just wasn't very exciting to me and I actually thought that Adam was kind of restrained. The "coronation" song was just clunky as my husband said. If two really good singers can not make it work, than it probably isn't such a hot song. I actually heard "Do I Make You Pround?" at the supermarket the other day and thought how many people tought of our troops when that song came out. It made a connection. I don't see that at all with this song. I'm glad the season if over. The finalists are talented and I really like Kris and hope he pulls it out. To quote Randy, it was just alright for me. Looking forward to David tonight of course!

Neither wowed me last night. Thought it kind of boring and predictable.

The Judges make it so obvious who they want to win. I didn't like the song Kara wrote at all.
libychick
I watched and it was just kind of "eh" for me. That is actually how I felt about this whole season, though. Nothing comes anywhere near the excitement I felt from week to week in Season 7. Oh well.

If anything, I do like Kris. I thought last night was a bit boring though. The coronation song was hideous. I had to laugh because on the radio this morning, one of the local hosts who is broadcasting from the AI finale commented on it. She said she really likes Kara and thinks she is a great songwriter but it sounded like she wrote that last song in 5 minutes in the bathroom tongue.gif I also think it is unfair that the contestants can't touch the arrangement of that song. Poor Kris was trying to sing way out of his range and he sounded like yuck-o. I really wish they would have a selection of 5 or so songs for them to choose from. Then they could at least pick something that would fit their style. That song last night (and most of the coronation songs) sound best when people with big pop-star voices (think Kelly and Archie) sing them.

However, I did keep thinking that David could have done the song justice. That man can sing anything and make it sound good. Time of My Life was NOT his style but he pulled it off.

I will never forget last year's finale and the touching, heartfelt The World I Know. What a way for David to end the season. I was in tears right along with him!

I dont really care who wins. I just want to see David back on AI stage.

This finale was nothing like last years, or any other for that matter, I just didn't care. All the other seasons, I had someone I wanted to win in the finale (with the exception of seasons 5 and 6. I didn't watch season 5's finale because I was made Daughtry wasn't in it and season 6, I had money on it, so there wasn't a connection really with either contestant, though I do like them both). Last year... come, on, David vs. David, it felt like a showdown. This year... meh. It was predictable in parts - I knew Adam was going to do Mad World and I had a feeling Kris would do Ain't No Sunshine.

I was watching the news before and they had Jared Cotter from season 4, I think, and he said that he felt the judges were condescending towards Kris and that the coronation song was horrible. No matter who wins, Adam and Kris are both screwed with that song. People on the AI forums are terrible - saying Kris could have changed the arrangement so it could fit his voice and he didn't so it was his fault it was bad. I didn't think he sang it terribly, it was just way out of his range. He can't change up the arrangement with that song. They should've done what they did last year and have a selection of songs and let the contestants pick one and then there's the coronation song (they've already won, so it can't hurt the voting).

Maybe we'll have a big upset tonight or the expected winner... I'm just in it to see David again! I wish he didn't have to pass the title over.
Grandmajoyce
Dialidol has Kris leading.

I guess we will see, I wonder if Simon is going to issue another apology before the results are read...

My sentiments exactly!! I've felt that way all year - no one is DC that's for sure. I found myself going back and re-watching all of season 7 instead of watching the new season this year and reliving it. Just magical. Even my kids have been saying, "He's no David Cook... wish David Cook was back." Even though they've tried to 'rev' this season up with drama and theatrics it's no substitute for REAL talent, heart and soul. It just has been so ... empty ... makes me miss him even more. sad.gif

I'm just thankful that no one came out in the boxing gear. That was one change that made sense! I akso think that having them only do two songs last week and a duet the week before was a bit less stressful for all of them. Last year was just insane with all they tried to pack in.

Last night did not do much for me though I think they boh did well. Funny about the song being written in five minutes! It remined me of a show tune from a bad Broadway musical. I hardly vote, but I did send seven votes Kris way. I voted on style even though consistency wise, Adam deserves it. Just looking forward to David tonight!
Jessica

Oh and I just checked my last post and I know its "proud" not "pround." I don't think I did any of my elementary teachers proud with that misspelling!

I was at the rehearsal and the show yesterday and both contestants sang better during the rehearsal, which is no big surprise. I was really annoyed at the judges comments towards Kris last night and preferred the comments from the fake judges at the rehearsal because they had everyone laughing, including Adam and Kris. Even though Adam is an extremely accomplished singer, I prefer Kris' singing style more. They both did a great job last night. While I hadn't planned on voting, I did spend some time voting for Kris last night. Perhaps that was what the judges were hoping for me to do. I took the bait. laugh.gif

Oh...and you can keep that coronation song. I pity the person who has to be saddled with it.

There was nothing last night even close to what David did with The World I Know. That was epic and emotional and world class Simon. Sorry Simons comments about Adam being the best original world class contestant they ever had has me upset. angry.gif
#1FaninAZ
My opinion is...neither will go very far. Adam scares me. At one point when he was looking into the camera it was extremely freaky. He is just way to weird and unpredictable to me. Kris, well, I don't think he sings very well and really shouldn't even be in the finals.

I watched just a little bit of it and had to turn it off cause I was actually embarrassed for both of them. What a let down from last year. I am SO glad I didn't invest any of my time into watching this season.

Of course, I will be watching tonight to see David perform. Can't wait for that.

WOW!! How fun for you...that must have been great to see both things in person. smile.gif And yes, kind of a poor coronation song...but then the only one I EVER liked was Cookie's. I remember last season being so afraid to see what HE would get saddled with...and was SHOCKED when I actually quite liked it!!

BUT IM A NETURAL DAVIDSQUARED

so in these words. last year rocked. it was as someone said a show down. and i dont know more intesne.

So Kris won. Good for him. No comparison to David, but then there will never be another David.

I just want to interject something, did anyone notice that Simon never got out of his chair when the announcement was made? He just sat there with a stunned look on his face. Now Kris may not have been his pick, but he could have shown him a little respect.
funibonz
David sang his song Permanent so beautifully and it was GREAT to see him again. Nothing was like Season 7- NOTHING!, and I don't think they could replicate it if they tried. It had all the right energy. And to think that a year ago, it was our David Cook, the true midwest king that won and that his brother had seen him just a year ago, too. For David to sing Permanent was so meaningful to him, but to his fans. I know I felt that way. He's awesome awesome awesome!!!

How can you NOT love David Cook. And his family! They are so sweettttt.

The two frontrunners from the midwest and southern states, Danny and Kris have very humble backgrounds and you could see that all the way through. Adam is very talented but he felt like he earned it because he's theatrical background his whole life. The whole basis of A.I. was to find that one person from out in the crowd and watch their progression and change and bring it on at the end. Kris did do that, he did knock himself out, you could see that. Adam was showcasey because he is. I dunno, I knew when Danny was off, it was going to be a serious fight at the end and that they'd be voting for Kris, too. I had tickets for my choice of nights for the finale, either Tues or Wed, but I gave them to my daughter and her friend. They went on Tuesday and had a great time anyhow.

At the end of last season, it was full of an incredible energy that you couldn't find anywhere else - but this season, AI made me pretty sick and Simon especially with his "Adam Lambert Showcase" for the past 5 weeks, it became really uncool, in every which way. He's a totally great singer, there is NO doubt about that and I personally think that Danny has better vocals than Kris, and I like his voice very much and his character but because AI put Adam way over the top, it was Danny Gokey's fans who voted for Kris in the long run. Did you notice how they didn't say how many votes between the two tonight, like last night? Remember when the David's votes were 12 MIllion apart?? Wow! And remember David's face and nerves at the end of his brilliant song choice for his last number? Only, to Simon's degrading him for it. DC stood so tall and said his piece and took it all in. I remember DC saying that he likes to take it all in (everything), so it's not just the ride, it's the journey with it. Kris seemed overwhelmed and shocked that he won and actually said - Adam was more deserving of this. That was sweet and then at the end, they showed a quick clip of Kris young wife hugging him, and he then sort of realized it all. Maybe - DC said he didn't remember the last few hours after that happened!

Kara can sing and has a good voice, but that song she wrote stunk. It won't sell. Everything about David Cook last season was perfect and I kept coming back each season. It wasn't predictable, it was a real competition, unlike this one only because A.I. made it a show about Adam. Did anybody think the Tatiana thing was a put on?

I don't think I'm going to watch A.I. after this season, it seemed tainted to me in ways that were so flamboyantly wrong. David Cook really was on the best season and America did get it right. And for David Cook being the ever kind heart man that he is, I'm glad I have found this website and will have the chance down the road to see David in a real concert with his band. David Cook - YAYYYYYYYYYYYY - we miss you but glad you're moving on. Waiting for you to come to California and perform!!
Justin
David was incredible tonight. No one can own a stage like he can and he sounded great.

I don't want to say Adam was cheated, but come on. Kris? He's like the fourth Jonas brother. Apparently Arkansas voted 38 million times out of the 100 million votes which I find hard to believe. Well, they voted for him and they can have him.

Adam is MY winner and I'm so thankful AI found him. Listening to him right now and I can't wait until his album comes out. Glam rock, guyliner, makeup, the hair, the clothes and even him being gay makes for one unique person and I LOVE IT!!!
Cook forever
^ totally agree with you there...adam was my winner from the start and theres no doubt he will have an awesome album...but well done to kris..he had hot competition and still won, thats quite amazing!

I agree with you - of course seeing D.C. Was AWESOME - just about any of the people from last year couldve won this year - i just wasnt happy with it - loved last years way more - could be I am biased - but I am glad Kris won - and the judges will learn one day the one they promote so heavily probably will not win...both D.C. and D.A. were more talented singers that this year - so I said it...
DC5990
David was amazing, of course. Did anyone else feel reminded of Always Be My Baby with the spotlight on him and what he was wearing? He's always going to be my Idol. When Ryan Seacrest was saying 'So tonight you're handing over the crown' I was yelling 'NO! Keep it forever!' Well... I don't think anyone was suspecting the stunt Kara pulled. Whhhhhy did they have to bring Tatiana back? They really did have to go to a commercial break (it's American Idol, when do they not have to go to a commercial break?)

The last break before they announced the winner, my mom (who's a Kris fan) was telling me that we should already know who won (meaning Adam), which I suspected, even though I wanted Kris to win and then when they announced his name there were two simultaneous "Oh my God!" from me and my mom (and my dad came up a few minutes later, asking what we were yelling about). Kris is so sweet and humble and I'm so happy for him. Simon did stand up when all the judges did, but he was quick to sit down - oh no, his master plan didn't work!

One thing though - I feel bad for Kris. Aside from having to call that horrible song his, he has to face the Adam backlashers, who can be quite mean (anyone see the AI forums, it's terrible!). I'm going to just say good job to both Kris and Adam, they're both amazingly talented and will have careers and congratulations to Kris!
Felicity's Mom
I was stunned by Kris' win. I am an Adam fan from the auditions. He so deserved to win. The Kara song that has to be Kris' first single is horrific. I just heard it on the radio and I only hope he will have the kind of team David had to make his first album a success despite that song. It cannot come close to "Time of My Life" and no one will ever match David Cook! He was amazing on the finale(as always!!)
Cathe
I enjoyed the whole show, I thought they brought in many talented artists. What touched me was seeing Lil Round sing with Queen Latifah, look how far she's come. But the finish was lifeless to me. I really enjoyed the sweet joyful emotional way David Cook won last year and the love from the other contestants who embraced his win.
The highlight was seeing David take the stage and own it. How can you not love a guy who is so humble and uses his time in the spotlight to help a charitable cause.
DC5990
I liked seeing Lil perform. The judges were so harsh to her for a lot of the season, I think she really felt that she couldn't do anything right. But this finale definitely was lacking if you compare it to last year. I just loved how all the contestants really crowded around David. They did towards the end with Kris (you could see Jorge, Anoop, Lil and a few others and eventually Adam came around to the other side and you could see him too. I couldn't see him at first though, he was probably trying to get around). But it just wasn't like last year. Though I did love when Kris hugged his wife.

As for the song... I honestly don't think Kris should put it on his CD. The studio version is pretty good, actually, but it's not really even his since they released the studio version of Adam singing it (I don't know if it's on itunes, but it's on youtube), which I think is unfair. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's never been two releases of the coronation song. There's no released version of Archie singing Time of My Life, or a studio recording of Blake singing This Is My Now (just the live version he did on the show). So I don't understand why they would release two this year.
SabresLove
im glad adam didnt get the title. i mean i love him..but he might have more freedom now!.

and does any else other than me want to hear david a's verison of TIME OF MY LIFE. out of curiosty?[sp]

I didn't know that. All I've ever seen is the Carrie Underwood version. I still find it weird (in both cases) but thanks for clearing that up! smile.gif
SassySiham
I think they both did great. The song No Boundaries is a very nice song, probably more fit for Kris than Adam but both their takes were great.
The one thing I thought was incredibly weird was when Ryan Secrest announced the winner, no one cared. Like didn't you noticed when any other Idol won, the confetti came down instantly all the other contestants hugged the winner. This season it seemed boring, it took forever for people to come and congratulate him, it took forever for the confetti to come down, it honestly felt like Who Cares If Kris Won?
Rattle
Actually when David was announced the winner the confetti did not fall right away. Ryan talked to him for a bit afterwards, then his mom and brother came running up and then Ryan said goodnight and introduced David as the American Idol. The confetti did not drop until midway through David singing TOML. biggrin.gif Such a great moment!!!
It was very unfair that such a horrible coronation song was forced upon the contestants this year. sad.gif

I am also anxiously waiting for Kris to blow everyone away with his first CD! I am certain he has what it takes to become very successful!!

Yes, I think you will like it here at the Dash--I and many others find this site much easier to navigate and more welcoming than DCO. smile.gif

I also hope that you can see David live some day...he is AMAZING live. I got to see him 2 nights ago in Northampton Mass., and it was just unbeleivable!!!!!!!!!!!! Well worth the wait as this was my first time to see him on this tour...and possibly the last, but if it IS the last then it's OK because it was a PERFECT night!!!!!!

And this year's Idol finale was certainly fun wasn't it?? What a show they put on for 2 hours...I think my fave was Kiss and Adam. smile.gif

I was rooting for Adam as the season progressed, but actually think he will have more freedom to do what he wants without having won the titile. But no one grabbed me this year the way Cookie did last year!!!!!!! smile.gif But it will still be interesting to see what Kris and Adam do, and also I liked Matt Giraud, so would buy his Cd when it came out too. smile.gif
