At the barricades in Wilkes-Barre, PA before the AI show last September, I held up a sign that asked David for a pick and he rummaged around in this pocket (quite the treat to watch, actually) and said he didn't have one, so he sent Security Dave back in to get them, and then when David came back to me along the line, he gave me the pick:

Then in November at the David Wright Foundation Gala, after the show, Timmy the guitar tech was cleaning up the stage and tossed a pick to me, which I gave to my friend Melissa (Melly Belly.) Then in May at the show in Virginia Beach, early in the show I felt something hit my foot and I looked down and it was a white pick that I at first thought was Andy's. But when I picked it up I saw that it was one of David's and I never even saw him throw it. I gave that pick to the sweet 12 yr old girl standing behind me.

I also have a broken drumstick that Kyle gave me after the DWF Gala show! That thing is pointy! laugh.gif

Omg. Ur so lucky! I haven't been able to be at a show, because I live in the Netherlands.
SassySiham
I live in Lebanon... so no Lol.

In Rolla, MO I had the least fantastic seats so far (10th row's not horrible though...lol). At the end of the show he was tossing his picks and I felt something hit my leg but I couldn't find it for my life!! When the lights came up I was practically on the floor looking for the thing. Then some dude walked by, looked down and picked it up! ACK! I must have looked really pitiful because he actually handed it to me. lol It's a white one with red autograph on it.
Teralynne93
Lucky all of you! I haven't come close to a David pick, though at the Wichita show a couple of weeks ago, a girl standing right next to me got one of Ryan Star's. It's white, says 'rstar' on one side and 'suck my pick' on the other. So very Ryan.
GazerGirl
My husband and I took my 10 year old daughter to see DC in Oklahoma City. It was standing room only, so when David came out, my husband picked my daughter up and held her so she could see better. After a couple of songs, David asked for the lights to be turned up so he could look at everyone. He looked at my daughter and said, "I can't help but notice this little girl over here with the red streak in her hair. What's your name?" He said a couple of nice things to my daughter and thanked her by name for coming to the show. We were floored and thought it was amazing that he spoke to her. After a couple more songs, he asked where my daughter was, calling her by name again, and threw her a guitar pick. It is now her most prized possession. It is white with his signature printed in red. We will all remember the experience forever. The part that stinks is that we were unable to get any great pictures with the stage lighting in the back ground and I was too shocked to use the video mode quickly enough.
Poliam564
I also got a pick during his concert here in The Philippines.
As well as Neal's

Also, Kyle's drumsticks

OMIGOSH :] I Watched all of the oklahoma city tour videos on youtube and he was talking about a girl but i had no clue what he was saying or who he was even talking to! That is so cool that he was talking to your daughter! :]]
iluvcookies81
I heard that part in one of the videos, way cool. I've seen David once and I was in the balcony so no pick. I get to see him again Wednesday, maybe I can get one. I hope, I hope.

I need to get better at posting. I've been in a rut but I'll get better! wink.gif As Marie said upthread, I have a pic (yellow one) since she already had one from Wilkes-Barre. It was great... Marie had a killer sign that said "David Cook, I'm a fan of pogonotrophy Can I have a pick?" (Sorry if it's not exactly that Marie) He was bent over trying to read the sign and figure it out and Marie had to tell him what it meant (beardedness). It was neat that he took the time to tell Security Dave to go in and get some picks. smile.gif I have my pick displayed inside the Hard Rock Cafe shotglass they gave us at the DWF Gala along with the glowstick from that night. If my memory serves me correctly, that was the first time that glowsticks were used for Light On and David told the band to stop for a second because he thought it looked so cool. smile.gif

I have one from when the AI tour was in Bridgeport. My sister had a made a sign that asked him for the picks. He took the time to read the sign and nod his head at her. A few minutes later he threw them to her but both us not being so athletic and having no preparation for it couldn't find them. Before David came back out for his last song one of the AI security guards leaned over and tapped me on the shoulder and handed me two picks. I have to admit we both squealed like little girls quite a bit for days to come. laugh.gif My mom made necklaces out of them.

When my friends and I saw David at Sunfest he threw three out in our direction at the end of the show and one landed under the chair a row in front of me. No one in that row even saw it ( in there defense it was pretty dark out because it was outside at night) so I leaned over the chairs and grabbed it and gave it to my friend. My friends still joke that I impaled myself to get it for her.

At the Campbell show back on March 26th, I met David Before pretty early [Around eleven that afternoon] and told him he was my Hero and that it was the best Day of my entire Life. I spell my name pretty weird-- [Kateland] but it's pronounced "Caitlin" so when I told David that as he was signing my CD that afternoon and hanging out in the area, it must have stuck with him. After the show, I went with a friend to head outside and wait for David to come back out. He didn't manage to make it back out, but we noticed my Dad was missing. Later, as we were leaving, my Dad told me that he had went up to one of the managers, and asked him for a pick. [David had been throwing black ones out that night.] He said he didn't have any, but he would take him to David. My dad told David that it would really mean a lot to his daughter if she could have a pick to keep. David said in response, "Ah, I remember her- Kateland! Of course, she can have this one that I played the show with tonight'- and he gave him one to give me. It's Yellow with the black autograph. I now have it framed. When I met David much later on March 30th in virginia Beach, he was in a rush and asked me my name as he was signing my guitar. I said 'Kateland- Kate" and he cut me off, saying 'Land-- I remember you!' And he gave me a big hug! I cried(:

well after my rolla concert, me and my friends were waiting for dave and when he finally came out she asked him for a pick and he pulled out one and there were three of us. and he said you guys can share it, you get it mondays, you get it tuesdays, and you get it wednesdays. lol. but one of my friends just kept it. and then i was waiting for neal cause my friends were tired and went back to the car and he finally came out and i screamed neal can i have your autograph and he came over right to me and signed my awesome setlist i got off the stage. lol. and then my picture and then i asked him for a pick and hes like hmm let me see if i have one and pulled out his wallet and went into the little pocket of it and pulled out a pick just for me. he was so sweet. i love neal and then i gave him the last hug before he went back to the busses. lol. : )

^ I'm happy for all of you guys but I'm so bummed I've never gotten one, and I majorly missed my opportunity to get him to notice me. At his Wichita show, the day after RW&B, while we were all sitting around waiting for the doors to open (GA show) I made a sign with someone else's markers and stuff that said 'Did you bring booty shorts?' (because of something he had said the day before) but then I handed it to my sister to hold while my dad and I ran to the car, and she gave it to the lady who had lent us her markers, etc, and then I ended up being right in front of him and he definitely would've seen it. Still have yet to meet him too. Oh well. Someday, right? I love hearing your guys' stories though.
cookgal4ever
Amazing stories everyone biggrin.gif I hope to get one when I see him soon I am planning on getting there early (Between 11.30-12.30) and then at the show I am trying to get one (I have 4th row in my section) so I'm really excited!!

Hahaha I almost got one of David's picks!

At the April Knoxville show it was GA/Standing Only and I was right next to Javier and the security guard and Andy's GF! At the End of the show the security guard held up his finger/hand for us to wait a second before leaving. Then Javier went on stage and looking for one of David's picks and Andy's GF said, "He's looking for one of David's." After awhile he got frustrated cause he couldn't find one, so he just ripped 2 of Neal's off of his mic stand and gave them to me! Lol so I tell people that Javier stole Neal's picks for me! Javier also gave us candy!

I totally forgot about this thread. But I did accomplish my mission. I took a sign that said "This is my first concert, can I have a souvenir?" and he threw me his pick. I didnt catch it, hell I didnt even see what direction it went in after it left his hand, but luckily my brother found it b4 anyone else did. I even found video of it on Youtube a few days later. haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvUQZENrsMc If u look at about 1:10, u can see him reading my sign and then throwing the pick. I will treasure this video for as long as I live. lol

My friends and I made a poster for the September 5th concert in Salem, Oregon (Toss a pick here) And he noticed it... Aimed... and missed by about 2 feet. To our right

But he noticed our sign... *died* And he attempted to get one to us...

The ones that got away...

I had second row seats at SunFest, closest I've ever been, so I figured it was my one shot at getting a guitar pick. At the end of the show, my daughter and I went up to the stage and asked one of the crew (I don't remember who it was) if we could have the last two guitar picks that were still on the mike stand. He said "sure" and threw them to us. He missed. They fell in the fenced area between us and the stage. So this security guard walked over and picked them up. I was so happy, until... he gave one of them to someone else who had actually asked for and received the set list! I turned to her and said, "you know he was throwing those to us." She said nothing, just turned and walked away with the setlist and my guitar pick. Then I turned to the security guard and said "hey, he threw those to us." And the nice security guard said, "yeah well, I'm keeping this one" and stuck it in his uniform pocked. I was shocked speechless. ohmy.gif

Unfortunately, those pics usually don't end up where they want them to go. A little too light, I guess. I always have to laugh because they seem to just disappear once they are in the air. Poof....and it is gone. laugh.gif

That was so horrible of that security guy to take that pick! angry.gif

I've been so lucky with picks, maybe people should hang around me! As said earlier in the thread, my first pick, a yellow one, came from David himself -- I was in line at the barricades before the AI show in Wilkes-Barre, PA with a sign asking for a pick. Then last November at the David Wright Gala, after the show Javier was cleaning up the stage and tossed me a pick which I gave to my friend Melissa (MellyBelly). Next during the Va Beach show I felt something hit my foot and saw that it was one of David's white picks. I gave that one to the 12 yr old girl behind me who we had befriended in line. In July at the Birchemere after the show, one of the fans who had traveled all the way from Brazil went up to the stage with me and one of the roadies (TC I think it was this time) tossed a pick to me, but said he promised the other one to a little girl and pointed down to the other side of the stage. The Brazilian fan was very disappointed, but agreed that the little girl should have the pick, so I gave my pick to the Brazilian fan since she had traveled so far from Sao Paolo.

So after giving picks away so many times, I finally got a chance to keep a white one for myself at the WV Fair show where afterwards my friends and I were still standing at our rickety old folding chairs talking when one of the roadies (I think it was TC again) started throwing picks and one landed right at my feet. It was a well used pick, all scratched up and practically shredded! But at least I have a white David one to go with the yellow one. But what I really need now are picks from Andy, Neal and Monty!

I've got three more Dave and the Anthemic shows coming up in October -- if I happen to get another David pick I'll be sure to give it to someone from this thread who just missed out (I'll pick a name out of a hat! laugh.gif )

Aw, you're so nice!

Let me guess, 3 shows, would that be Myrtle Beach HOB, Columbia, then Perry? I figured since you're from VA those would be the 3 in October. I had tickets for Perry, but can't go now. Got a thing at work on Monday that I can't miss and I'd never get back to So. Florida in time sad.gif I'll just have to pick a tourstop that I can get to relatively cheap because I want to go once more before the guys go back to the studio. (Well, I want to go more than once but I'll be happy with one more). I haven't been to a show since the spring tour and they've changed up so many songs it would be all new now! And maybe, just maybe, I'd finallly get one of those guitar picks! tongue.gif

Actually, the shows are 10/11 Charlottesville, VA which is only an hour away from me, 10/13 in Richmond, VA and then the 10/17 SC State Fair in Columbia. We'll see how lucky I get with the picks.

Ah, you're so lucky!! Two shows in your home state. I didn't even realize that they were playing in VA (since I'm in FL, I don't look that far when I have to drive). I did fly up for the VA Beach/Cats Cradle shows. That was my big summer splurge this year! It was definitely worth it. I'd say have fun, but, duh, that would be pretty obvious tongue.gif
