they *could* sing their own versions of the songs BUT it's quite obvious that they're doing whatever David has sung in the show because it's gaining popularity. they SHOULD sing them WELL, though. not just David's songs but ANYONE'S songs.

i just find pinoy singers to be so disappointing recently. they only copy foreign artsists' style, no originality whatsoever. i have to admit though that most pinoy singers are MORE talented than foreigners but they lack originality and stage presence.

I have given up back reading for my own sake. Lol. I just keep on getting more and more confused.

don't get me wrong, there are some pretty good ones. i think the bands are so much better now though compared to the singers. i hardly ever watch the sunday noontime shows anymore just because i don't get impressed by the antics, they pull the same stunt week after week, doesn't change it up or do something creatively that no one has done before. if they do something different, it's because someone else has already done it. i don't know if you noticed but when a song is done on AI for group medleys or just the performances, it will most likely be done in one of those shows. sometimes it's better, sometimes it's not.

I totally get what you're trying to say...

What I'm trying to say here is that people have different views- some would love one's performance and some would not... same as the point of views of the judges in AI... Paula always sees the positive side of every performance and the other two in either way.

Here's my two cents:

I think they deserve it. Anyone deserve it. But they should atleast do or make a dignified version of the song they're remaking just to give justice to the hard-earned efforts that the original artist put into that song. One thing that artists here in the Philippines should stop doing is turning themselves into cashcows. Bea and John Lloyd (or anyone who sung it LOL) sung Always Be My Baby, but seriously they're not even singers to begin with yet they still tried to sing it because they know it would sell them as artists. But seriously, I believe that even Bea and John Lloyd know themselves that it's beyond their league.

It's just so disappointing to see these raw, potential artists getting into something they have no idea what to do. Seriously, it's a big thing to sing a David Cook rendition of ABMB now that it's gaining immense popularity and they should have thought of that. They should be able to live up with the criteria that David had set into making this version of the song his own. I don't think Mariah would still ask David Cook to release ABMB if David Cook ruined it. Just the same as, I don't think Regina Velaquez or Ogie Alcasid would ask a contestant on Pinoy Idol who ruined their song to release it, don't you think? It's all a fair game for both international and local artists. The only difference is David Cook is bigger than everybody else we know in our local industry so everything else about him is magnified.

Bottom line is just respect the original artist when doing a rendition of whatever song they're doing. Make a dignified, worth-listening-to version. And if they can't do that, then don't attempt to sing on national television.

if DC's coming here for a concert (although it may take some time), maybe the cookienoys can try to form an "official" thing with the local office of the record label. there was a time before when i was part of another "fandom" mweheheh, where we got access to the artists through the promoter and to a certain degree through the record label. of course, the group wasn't as big as cook is but i dunno, maybe that's a thing to explore.

also, travis is talking about a fanclub thing. maybe if we can do an "official" philippine chapter of it, that's another "in" to consider.

i'm still not friends with a lot of people here since i don't hang around here as much as other forums, but i feel really really happy that the cookienoys is one of the strongest if not the strongest international presence in these forums

I noticed that the hot topic pala is local artists doing covers. My 2cents worth lang.

I don't mind covering covers. Cook himself did it. What I mind is murdering decent/good songs with mindless covers (also known as the habit of TV stations of making non-singers sing in variety shows and in the process murdering good songs whether by foreign or local artists). For instance, in today's ASAP, John Lloyd and Bea sang ABMB. I changed the channel right after I heard the intro because I knew that there was no way that they were going to perform the song decently. And right now, because of my Cookie obsession, I find it offensive that they were doing that. But objectively speaking, I probably would still have found it offensive anyway because that is my favorite Mariah song. For crying out loud, the reason why a lot of local artists aren't given the break that they deserve is because tv stations would rather have non-singers sing instead of showcasing true pinoy musical talent. I have heard many covers by local artists of foreign songs that I appreciate and some even more than the original. But you can never expect that to happen with non-singers pretending to sing.

For what it's worth, I probably still would have minded even if they made Erik Santos or Christian Bautista do it. But that's because of my Cookie obsession, objectively speaking, I wouldn't have real problems with it.

actually, thinking about it, maybe we could have better luck if we go with the street team thing that travis is organizing. if they're able to get an "in" with RCA or 19, maybe if we're a local of that, we can use that connection with the local promoter or the RCA here (btw, i have no idea if there is an RCA here. the last artist i was a fan of was with BMG, so the fans were contacting the promoter and BMG Pilipinas).

I thought this was the right avenue for my sentiments since you guys can relate. At one point you are right, and I respect you for that, but do please understand that I also have the right to post here as a member. Yeah, I couldn't have done any better than those singers in ASAP, I am just exercising the critic in me, like what Randy and Simon are doing, who I think couldn't sing as good as David Cook.

Agree. I think the "official" thing is utterly necessary. Ang hirap kasi pag kalat kalat tayo eh, tapos kanya kanyang diskarte to get connections. We mind end up pissing the organizers. Mas maganda siguro if we make this thing official para mas madali narin ang representation.

All we need is an official name...then our own webpage (i.e. yahoo group) then recruit everyone else we know and contact those from the other forums to cooperate with. From there we could start contacting organizers and label producers.

starting a pinoy streetteam is a good idea. i was a part of the calling's street team before but they never got around to visiting us over here. it's gonna be hardwork and i suggest you contact the record company NOT GMA7. i think RCA is BMG here in the philippines, same record company as The Calling. You can write them a letter, ask them what needs to be done to form the official streetteam.

jessie ann, i have accepted the challenge! hahaha. i just woke up and i recorded a version of me singing abmb. it's still uploading on youtube. i know it's not as good as DC's version but i'd like to think it's better than john lloyd and bea's LOL will post a link on your other thread.
