Hey! so we all know, sadly =(, that Paula is no longer an American Idol judge, but now I have just heard that the new judge is Ellen!! I think that she will be GREAT on the show! and I cant wait to see how it turns out!!! Although I will miss are sweet Paula I do think I will really love that ellen is on the show! Tell me your thoughts! so do you think elllen will be good on the show? a good aspect? or will she bring the show down?

Sorry--I had the exact opposite reaction when I found this out yesterday. I think the show will tank with her on the panel. I am not really sure I even want to watch it now!! Don't get me wrong--I quite like Ellen in her comedy stuff, TV shows that hse has had/has, but that is where whe should stya--with what she does best. What possible input can she give to a music show?!?!? Geez, if the qualifications are that you like music, then I should have been asked to be a judge. Jeeesh...just sayin'...... I would MUCH rather see people that are in the "biz" be the judges which is how it has always been. This just cheapens the opinions given into a bit of a farse/joke in my opinion. I'd hate to be a contestant, THAT'S for sure!!

But---all this being said---"it's JUST an opinon"(mine)...as Simon would say.

I also read a bunch of comments of people on a Popeater site that mostly seemed to reflect how I felt too....lots of very unhappy people.

OH--BTW---I also meant to say...I saw Ellen as a guest judge on SYTYCD this summer, and it was disastrous in my opinion. She added NOTHING to the show, and was actually quite irritating as she had nothing to add to what the dancers had done. And why should she..>I mean what on earth does she know about dancing?!?!?! I guess in retrospect it now seems like this may have been a trial run for the Idol's judging position. Oh well, I have always said that Idol probably takes up too much of my time, so if this kills it for me, then I guess I can look forward to having lots more time to do other things.

LOL i dont think having a new judge on the show would bring it down, its doing that all by itself!!
i would much rather have somebody who is in the music industry....but if having ellen on the show gets rid of the rumour i heard about having Victoria Beckham becoming the new judge, then its worth it! Im sorry but neither Posh or Ellen would have a decent thing to say.... i admit ellen is pretty funny, but we have Randy for that....she has nothing new to offer to the panel so what would she do? she should stay on her show and discuss the idols from afar... not help mentor them.

i thought the same thing. like what does ellen know about music ?and i dont think her sence of humor fits in with the show. i think the personality with that will clash. im not really happy about this.

She is going to make the show really funny!! I wasn't planning on watching Season 9 after the disappointing Season 8, but maybe now I will.

I heard that on the news the other day, and I think it's gibberish. The reason they gave that Ellen would be a judge is because she is a fan of the show? I think she is funny but not the type of funny that would go good with the show. I am curious to see what it is going to be like though..

Oh, brother!!--I didn't hear that about the reason being because "she was a fan of the show". JEEESH--if THAT'S the case then We all should have been asked to be judges too.

I think she might suprise you guys though, she may know alot more about music then we can ever imagine, but at the same time she might not know anything but who cares?, And your right any of us could be judges, and thats y ellen got picked b/c they wanted a general persons input and opinion!! Afterall its us who chose the winner, and shes in most ways more like us! so really..

LOL--so true. I know Simon loved Paula even though she drove him crazy & he didn't want her to leave & he isn't crazy about Kara at all. A.I. needed someone to replace Paula who served as the "nice" person on the show always giving some kind of positive feedback so that the contestant wouldn't be too crushed. Kara I guess isn't nice enough, & isn't impartial from what I saw. LOL.........Even when Paula didn't like something, she wasn't harsh on them & wasn't overtly pimping.

Ellen was chosen because she is famous, has her own show, and is a fan of the show & has commented about A.I. on her show all the time. The rest of us don't have a show, aren't that funny, & nobody gives a flying fig what we think. LOL

This season was a disaster. I love the fact that I TiVo'd it so that I could zoom through most of the show. I hated the Adam pimping, the total bias the judges had & the format in general. I only really watched because I wanted to see DC perform, or see if they were going to run his commerical or see his picture on "the wall." I liked Allison but never voted for her. I voted a couple of hours on the final 2 night for Kris but wasn't invested in him at all. I might watch next season just to see how Ellen is going to do & I bet a lot of people will do that too, at least for awhile anyway. However, now that Ellen is a judge, she will have a difficult time going back to her show & talking about it - like a fan - on who she likes, who sucks, etc.

Yeah, that's what I'll be doing too--tuning in to see what the &#^%#@^ Ellen does..it will be like a car crash for me.. you don't WANT to look, but you just HAVE to! LOL!!

Just hope she knows more about music than she does about dancing. I wasn't impressed at her guest judging on So You Think You Can Dance. Yes, she is funny and makes me smile, but as for knowledge and giving an opinion that is worth something to the contestants, I'm wondering.

Well, he didn't like her at all at the beginning but he likes her now. I guess it took time for him to warm up to her; however, he loves Paula. Afterall, he's been wroking with Paula for a very long time. During all the negotiations, he spoke out that he was sure Paula would be back, that he wanted her back. She's like family to him. They are all "family" working for years together even though I am sure she drives him crazy sometimes, just like family.

In any case, this might turn out to be a train wreck. There just isn't a whole lot of time to spend on the judges' comments so Ellen will probably be polite & give everyone good feedback. I can't see her being mean at all.

i dont knowwww... she is a nice person and i love watching her show..but will she be critical of the contestants? will she be able to spot the stars from the talented? i mean all the judges have had a background in music or in the music industry... i dont know much about ellen but i dnt think she has that background knowledge to draw upon?

I agree with this too but I really do like her alot. We will just have to wait and see. I hope it works out. She has always been so nice to David.

She's one of my favorite icons and a wonderful person, but i'm not sure yet if she has the judging skills needed. I saw her as a guest judge on a dance show and she just said amazingly nice things the whole time (the ppl deserved it, but constructive criticism is needed, too)
