Always Be My Baby!! No doubt about it....his finest hour biggrin.gif

I was already a HUGE fan of the song as it is,I loves me some MC(well, loved). But David gave it something it was really lacking......his version is so much more fitting of the message of the song. It was a great song choice for him and I albsolutely love it!

I just had an interesting thought.

At the end of the season (I forget if it's the final three or the final two... anyone?) they get to re-perform what they feel was their strongest performance of the season. Usually I find that this is a no-brainer and you can usually predict which song the contestant will do (for example, Blake with "You Give Love A Bad Name" last year... I mean, duh.) But we all have really diverse lists as far as what our favorite performances were, and I honestly believe Cookie has had the most consistently great performances of any AI contestant EVER. He's got a lot of really strong performances to choose from, and I find it hard to predict which one he'll choose. It will be interesting to see which performance HE thinks was his strongest.

you know...I was thinking about this earlier as well. I'm really curious as to which song he'll pick for the finale.(I think it's final 2 btw) Every performance has been a gem so far,it's gonna be interesting to see which of them he chooses to recapture for us.

I totally agree with you about him being the most consistently great performer in AI history. Most definitely!

I've been wondering this myself. Like what song is he going to go back to...I keep wondering if he's going to do "Hello" again. I would flip!
JRock
hey - new guy here.

cool topic. before I had find this site, I figured out how to rip my tivo recordings to mp3s so I've been listening to them nonstop since the round of 12.

Quick comments :

Living On A Prayer and Everything I Do - good but karaoke.
Where is the recording for I'll Be? I'm dying to hear that - the little I heard sounded great.

Happy Together - I'm with Simon, it was a weird song to chose and I'm not sure I got it at this point.

All Right Now - awesome - loved having the confidence to walk away from the mic to play in front of the girls for a few seconds - that really sold the rocker vibe for me.

Hello - This is where my wife and I went "Whoa." This guy has TALENT.

Eleanor Rigby - This is where I became a Cookie. It was a little rough for me (and Randy) until he finally got the mic stand straightened out, spread the arms wide and belted out "AH! Look at all the lonely people!!!" I was sitting on my train on the way to work and I literally got chills and started laughing out loud. People were looking at me on the train. It was all worth it. Watching someone find himself like that on stage in front of screaming fans is really really cool. I thought this was a huge turning point for him. My personal favorite.

Day Tripper - Simon hated it - I still love that performance. It's fast, loose and fun.

Billie Jean - This won my wife's "shut UP!" of the week award. I still get chills when he lands the end of the note on "She says I.........................." - just awesome.

Little Sparrow - nice, I actually prefer the studio version on this one but it was nice.

Innocent - I thought this was a disaster when I watched it the first time and it gets worse every time I listen to it since. He's out of breath, he's off pitch, he's forcing it in some spots and not working hard enough in others. All around bad day - I was just happy he made it through. The studio version of this song is actually my favorite studio song of all.

Always Be My Baby - a real knockout performance. Not a whole lot more you can say about it. I started believing he could win the whole thing after this performance. I think he's starting to feel it too now.

The Neil Diamond Songs - I honestly didn't get into these songs that much. I'm glad the judges liked them but it just didn't resonate with me.

As a side note, can I just say that I miss Kady Malloy and Kristy Lee Cook - I'm a sucker for blondes. (Yes, my wife is blond.)

oh and if he picks a song to repeat (and if he wants to win) he'll encore the mariah carey performance. it's not my personal favorite (nor his, I imagine) but it has the broadest appeal to voters.

ohmy.gif I hadn't even thought of that! So there might even be the possibility of a studio version of Hello...? Cause that would be... God, no words

I'm glad someone agrees with me on this. I've seen a lot of people trying to defend the Innocent performance but I just don't get it. It just... wasn't good. I feel bad for saying that, but it wasn't. But, like I've said before, it's pretty damn impressive that he's made it this far in the season and has only had one bad performance. I can't think of a single Idol contestant, from this or any other season, that could say that.
I do agree with you that it's his best studio recording, though. I listen to that song on a regular basis. I love it.

Welcome to the site. It's nice to see another guy in our very estrogen-filled message board. What are we up to, like, three now? laugh.gif

I'm actually crossing my fingers for Hello for this very reason. It's not my absolute favorite performance of his, but it's the one I would most like to see him do again because I would LOVE to hear the studio version. Plus I think it'd be smart of him to bring back that song, since it's what "converted" most of his fans in the first place. It would remind us all why we love him (as if we need reminding... ha!)
Chelsey loves Cookie
hmm...my fave changes weekly. I'd have to say Billie Jean...it's pretty epic for me.
Rye
My favorites generally change from day to day, but lately I've been staying firm with my choices.
Mmm. I loves me some All Right Now. Am I the only person who'd rather have that as a recording than Hello? :X

My live performance ranking:
12. Innocent
11. Happy Together
10. Little Sparrow
09. I'm Alive
08. Day Tripper
07. Eleanor Rigby
06. Hello
05. Billie Jean
04. All Right Now
03. All I Really Need is You
02. Music of the Night
01. Always Be My Baby

The studio recordings... mostly a completely different story:
07. Eleanor Rigby
06. Day Tripper
05. Little Sparrow
04. I'm Alive
03. Innocent
02. Music of the Night
01. Always Be My Baby
Now, that's not to say any of them are bad. I felt awful putting Eleanor Rigby at the bottom, but I had to put something there! D:
Rhoda
This is actually a really hard question for me because I think I know which is my favorite and then I watch him sing a different song and think, "No, this is my favorite"... so I'm kind of like, "Well shit... I JUST LOVE THEM ALL!!!!" Although I will say that "Always Be My Baby" is one close to my heart because just watching him perform during that song makes my heart ache ... but then again, "Hello" gives me chill bumps when I hear his voice.. and then "Billie Jean" is also breathtaking.. Okay, so anyway.. I've confused myself again.. I'll go with my original answer.. I just love them all..
Lemily
Hmm... my tops, in no particular order, would have to be:

Billie Jean, Music of the Night, Hello, Always be my Baby

StyleSteel
My mom and I talk about this pretty much every day.
She loves Little Sparrow. Live and studio. She just seems to think it is brilliant.
I like Little Sparrow, but I think my favorite is Music of the Night. I loved it. That is actually my favorite studio version.
Always Be My Baby was amazing. I would choose the live version over the studio anyday with that. I didn't get to watch it that Tuesday night, and being one of the only humans in this world without tivo, I had to youtube it the next day. I just started crying. It was just wow.
Ok, enough of that now! He is just amazing at what he does so.. yeah.

reneeb
My favorite was Always Be My Baby......I think there was some kind of magic at work during that performance.

I think he should reprise "Hello"....that was the song that got many people...and it was so long ago (before he really hit his groove) that it was performed (I think it would be a bad idea to redo "Always Be My Baby" because it won't be able to top the raw emotion and element of surprise he projected the first time)...it would be perfect for him to come full circle and end this outstanding run with this song, which will show how much he has improved as a performer (and yes, to give us a studio version!)

1) Always Be My Baby (magic)
2) Billie Jean (amazing, amazing, amazing)
3) music of the Night (showed his versatility....great strategic move and I loved it)
4) Eleanor Rigby (love the emo)
5) All I Really Need Is You (I could listen to this all day)
6) Hello (take notice; this is where he became a contender)
7) All Right Now (he was hot during this one)
8) Little Sparrow (beautiful)
9) Innocent (love the studio version)
10) Day Tripper (didnt like the performance, loved the studio version)
11) So Happy Together (fun)
12) I'm Alive ( last mainly because it was way too short)

My absolute fav performances are Billy Jean, Music of the night and You'll always be my baby!!!! of course i absolutely LOVE evry song he sings, but those are the ones that i have like the most!!

OK, I have to chime in here. I LOVE OLP! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I can agree that the live performance wasn't his best. Somewhere in the first chorus, DC didn't quite hit the rhythm and cadence of the song. But I think it was actually because he seemed *so* preoccupied that week with hitting his marks (where he needed to be for the camera) -- winding his way through the audience to the judge's table to hit his mark for the camera shot at the end.

The studio version of this song is *excellent* and he nailed it! I often listen to the OLP version back to back with DC's version, and I actually prefer David' version. ohmy.gif

I give him credit for bringing out a lesser-known song that he felt so patiently about. He's obviously a huge OLP fan, too. (Knew I liked him for some reason - kidding, for MANY reasons!)
Zenith

Eleanor Rigby for just the reason he said- the stage, lights, audience, the concert feel...his little hop and woohoo at the end...gets me every time I watch smile.gif
